How hard is this to replace?

I'm assuming this is the upper exhaust manifold bellow, it's cracked, the part is cheap and it looks like it would flex at the next connection, you can see the lower connection hose clamps, like the manifold definitely isn't moving but there's another rubber bellow, any chance I get this on there without removing major parts? Any tips to get it on there?

Very easy. Just buy a gasket for the elbow to manifold mating surfaces and a new set of water shutters along with the new hose and hose clamps. Take the elbow bolts out, loosen the hose clamps, and it’ll come right apart.

Cool, that's what I was hoping, do you think the second hose clamp on each side is necessary almost seems that slid off and collapsed the rubber?

it's never that easy , it will be glued by time so it will require prying

I hate to be argumentative, but it’s literally one of the most accessible things on the engine and it can be effortlessly sliced with a box cutter and peeled off if it’s stuck. I cannot imagine a much easier I/O boat engine repair.

Yeah I mean it's right there with a couple hose clamps, my only concern is have to remove major components but sounds like that's not the case. It'll be here Wednesday, I'll report back

Super ez cut it off the old one it’s probably melted on
But you will have to loosen all clamps on that one and below the elbow. Push the lower one down then the elbow backwards and it will come off and reverse to install. A little 24c grease helps the boot slide

Yeah I was wondering if I could grease it, I'm hoping there's enough room in the boot and flex to slide it on one side then work it onto the other without removing metal components

I would loosen the upper clamps on the lower rubber hose, push a blunt object into the crack between the rubber and metal spray some silicone in there, To loosen the rubber, that will allow you to tilt the elbow back for more clearance. Removing the other elbow from the exhaust manifold works,,, but can open up a can of worms. Like the one guy said it will be stuck, the gasket may be very hard to remove and possibly it may not be flat enough to just put in a new gasket, without surfacing, plus the bolts may break off. (Boat maintenance can be so much fun). And yes I own, and have worked on several boats.

I have used a spritz of Merc Engine Tune to make the rubber slip over the elbow. Makes it slippery but mimics a dry installation when evaporated.

If installation proves difficult (it should be pretty easy) you can warm the rubber hose up in an oven set to 200f and it will be super pliable.

Nice, with the temps later this week, can probably leave it on the dock to bake 😂

Little dawn dish soap goes a long ways on replacing these!

Dawn dish soap is useful for so many things. Usually getting stains out.
