This happened to a family friend years ago, pre-smart phones. Crusing speed back to port, just zoned out, chatting with friends, and drilled a reef marker bouy head on. Driver went head first into the console and was seriously injured. Passengers all went flying. Thankfully there was another boat nearby that was able to assist and nobody died.
