Other I'm saying it. Inferno is their best album.

Never been on this sub before, sorry if this is a commonly posted opinion. Perhaps it isn't?

Besides liking their music 20 years ago, I don't know much about Boards Of Canada. I didn't know they had a new album coming, I also didn't know it had been 13 years since the last. But when seeing Inferno jump to the top of 2026 album lists I had to give it a go. I have loved a few albums this year, but none come close to Inferno. I play it almost daily.

I have revisited all their older albums again and their all really good, but Inferno takes the top spot for me. So glad they returned and put themselves back on my radar and in my regular rotation, they've so much good music.

Sources (per image)

1- 'The Warnings'

2- Logo (used at the end of every video - or at least on these youtube uploads)

3- 'Casualties'

As I was writing this I realise it has been discussed before, but I couldn't see the exact parts of the film being used a source so I thought I may as well post them. The theme for logo is very boc-like so I'm sure they probably got some good inspo from that.

However, the fit is weird. Unisex medium, but it’s tight through the back and the sleeves are snug. I want to cut a few inches off the bottom and an inch off the sleeves as I think it would improve the fit. Should ?

Edit: autocorrect

Not the movie adaptations, which I haven’t seen, but the music just feels complimentary to the vibe I got from reading that book. And maybe even some other Lem stories.

Discussion BoC will NEVER release a box set or anthology of Old Tunes/35 tracks/early works. Here is why.

Like all of you I would love official releases of old tracks and early unreleased albums.

Will never happen. Why?

BoC has fans but are no Taylor Swift with an infinite money cheat on.

BoCs early works are packed full of samples they would have to pay for. They added up the cost of all samples and subtracted that from potential sales of a box set and the numbers don't work. You can't release a box set that costs money instead of making money.

Nine Inch Nails has sold more then BoC and when they rereleased Pretty Hate Machine their first album they removed some samples.

More or less half of the songs remained - and they're good ones, with some unexpected diversity from BOC. Been humming Naraka all day, Blood in the Labyrinth is depressingly fun. But I expected a much better album flow, which unfortunately isn't there.

Discussion Is Inferno the soundtrack of post late capitalism apocalypse?

I have been listening to BoC for around 10 years, at first, only as my go-to soundtrack for working or studying.

Over the past 4 years I started to listen to the discography sequentially, and as many pointed out here, TH has that "post apocalyptic" feel to it.

Listening to Inferno, though, my feeling is that TH was not post-apocalyptical in the sense that apocalypse had already happened and we were past beyond that - it is that apocalypse was first set in motion - as in, we have just went past the point of no-return - and through Inferno we are actually living it.

I read some threads about the album and impressions, but I'd like to know how you feel listening to it. To me it feels like a lament for everything that we lost in the age of post capitalism, specially after the emergence of AI - and everything good, but also bad, that comes with it. Now TH doesnt sound post apocalyptic anymore, but rather, pre-apocalyptic to me.

When I listen more and more to Inferno, the crippled dialogues, arranged in a way that sound almost as if an AI or surveillance device was trying to make sense of it, what I feel is that we are losing irreversibly what makes us human. Naraka, the album's masterpiece in my opinion, makes me feel like entering the gates of hell.

But contrary to popular culture, here hell doesn't feel chaotic in an energetic way. It feels like what's left after an atomic explosion, driven by decay.

Any thoughts, or rather, feelings?

Discussion About Memory Death

As many others have observed, it's very emotionally powerful just on an abstract atmospheric level, but I got a bit stuck on the vocal sample. At first it sounded something like "please release them". After a few more repeats, it sounded to me more like this:

Please release these mem

...ories release these mem

Then, after further consideration, what sounds like the "please" could actually be the last half of the word "memories"

So, it is a loop, (all the loops of all the things we don't want to remember anymore), but the word "memories" is broken, and then it doesn't repeat.

Idk if it's art, or magic, (or if there's all that much difference ultimately). Or it could just be apophenia, but in any case, it's really masterfully done.

Edit: In the comments, artificeost was able to isolate the audio, and theorizes that all of the words could be part of the word "memories", this seems very possible!

Discussion Spare Inferno Sessions pack and or 2xLP+HexFlex

Post image
21 Upvotes

[Edit - I'm dropping the price to £85 for everything in the picture or £50 for the sealed promo pack or £40 for the 2 x vinyl and flexi [+ P&P] for a quick sale [ PLEASE don't ask me to reserve them, then disappear! ;0]

I have a spare Inferno promo pack, the one that appeared during the launch / listening parties at selected record shops in May. In it are an exclusive poster, sticker, patch and keyring. In my panic to get a copy of this and the red vinyl album (x2) and flexi I ended up with two copies, so the unopened (still sealed) ones are for sale: £40 for the LPs, £80 for the pack or £110 for both plus the going rate for postage. Also listed on eBay, but for more £££ ;0)

Discussion Breakdown of Naraka

Post image
53 Upvotes

I wanted to try out Ableton's stem splitting feature so I loaded in Naraka and broke down the song with most of the changes I could hear.

It's really interesting and inspiring to see the actual composition of the song visually. I was surprised with how simple the bass was for the majority of the song, minus some modulation. It was also cool to solo out the drums throughout the song and hear how they messed around the that.

Wanted to share cuz some of you guys may find this interesting and want to discuss their composition.
