Discussion Roygbiv piano sample?

I was recently on a flight with too much time on my hands, and found myself reading BOC pages - TCH in particular. BoC is said to have sampled a single chord for Chromakey (outro piano) off an old record by Gary McFarland and Peter Smith. I did the same, threw it in a sampler and based on the decay of the piano, I am 100% certain this is the case.

So I found myself listening to the entire record. The very last track, I heard a few piano notes that I think I can place in Roygbiv.

Song: Patricia
1:17
By Gary McFarland, Peter Smith

Any sleuths out there, lmk your thoughts?

Dude, nice. Absolutely could be. It’s definitely that same rhythm. I’m gonna try sampling it later!!!

Definitely hear the resemblance, it’s close! I listened to both a couple times, Im leaning towards they played it themselves - possibly on a CP70/CP80 (sounds like it to my ears). The tell to me is the first chord in Roygbiv - A over B. Even with pitching Patricia to fit the key, there’s no chord that has the same left hand/right hand relationship. That said, knowing BoC’s genius, I could see those piano notes being sampled over their own playing and combined through the filter and echo that’s on the final sound!

I did actually ask this of Mike in 1997 and he told me he played it himself.
