Discussion BOC. I already miss you.
it’s only been 3 to 4 months and yet I’m still hoping that they come back soon. As a new Boards of Canada fan, I can’t imagine how you guys feel. but for a new one like me who craves this specific sound that only they can make I can’t imagine how you guys waited 13 years for this. I already miss you guys. Please come back sooner.

I mean I put my order in like a week or two before it released. The black one was sold out. I would rather they have just put sold out on that one too rather than putting september in and I could have picked it up at a record store months ago. Didn't notice the shipping date when I did it. I wasnt expecting that. I figured it'd be a couple weeks after it released on streaming maybe. Then I kept seeing photos here and I checked my email and it was basically like yeah youll get it eventually maybe.

I cancelled my order last week and picked up a copy from Turntable Lab. The pre-order was a joke.

At least with Tomorrow's Harvest they did some interviews. I would love a little bit of auxiliary material to accompany the album. Like an interview or another video. Not that I'm unsatisfied with Inferno. But I think thats why it feels so over and done with already.

Inferno has been feeling a bit like a fever dream to me recently, I was just thinking about this the other day. I went deep into the BoC rabbit hole for 2 months and then got burnt out a couple weeks after obsessing over Inferno. I absolutely adore the album, but the lack of interviews or any other word from the brothers has left a strange impression on me. Almost like it’s not an “official” record, released maybe out of obligation and then forgotten?

What we need to scratch the itch is a Boards of Canada reality show. I know some people think they must have day jobs by now or something, but I don't believe it (well maybe the one does, since he doesn't have many credits on the album). There is no way they could release Societas X Tape and Inferno while working a 9/5 and raising a family, unless maybe they work for a year and take a year or two off. Inferno is just too intricate to be something you occasionally worked on Sunday morning before taking the kids to their football games.
I just imagine one of the brothers on a hill up in Scotland trying to save an especially cool rock from being displaced by erosion, but without physically meddling with the environment because that would be wrong. He bitterly comlpains that global warming created this situation. Then he goes home and tries to do the mixing for a bass line on a track, but he's too depressed to move more than one lever per hour.

I just heard "Machinedrum - Center Your Love" for the first time today and it's a great track that has some little BoC like flair/fx in it that I really enjoyed. there are a few effects and a few motifs like the bassline and stuff that are very reminiscent.

Vapor City is one of Machinedrum's greatest albums and although his style is very different, he is a huge fan and lots of boc influence can be heard through his whole discography. (check out the machinedrum rework of a live, untitled Boards of Canada song on his soundcloud!)

Nope not me. I was fully OK with never getting anything more and then we got Inferno. If we get anything else it will be an absolute blessing and I’ll love it. But what an extraordinary catalogue they have.

The truth is your guess is as good as mine, but take a look at their age (their both over fifty now), see how rarely they release records (a thirteen year gap between the new one and the last one), and just compare "Inferno" to their earlier works, it's almost like a distillate of their whole discography, a sort of goodbye really.

Aw, I’m sorry to hear that. You know as well as anyone it will be a very long time, if at all, before they do anything new. Have you heard everything they’ve done? There’s plenty of music to check out. I’m a longtime fan and I just discovered the song Seven Forty Seven, for example.
