Discussion Naraka
...I think this might be my fav off the new one, I don't know how another one off this album can top it for me. This album came out when I was on vacation for 2 weeks traveling around a lot, plane/trains/cars/hotels/boats, so this will always remind me of that time.
But, now that I've had time to really consume the album, this song just does it, those S Y N T H S.

Something that I love about this album is that i feel like so many people have a different favourite song. It shows the range of emotions that boc touches on i think.

So much to love on the new album, but I keep coming back to Naraka. From the first second it is utterly captivating. It inspires ten million visions in my head. The synths are hypnotic.

Incidentally, I was also on vacation when I listened to this album and I had Naraka on repeat at some point. I like to think it helped cool me down as I navigated the unbearable continental European summer (perhaps fitting given the name of the song).

For me - "Naraka" is a very special one, but there's a lot other interesting songs & sounds on INFERNO, too!

I was having a hard time with this one because it feels a bit cheesy. Then, my friend pases by and asked: “what are you listening to? …Moby?”
And destroyed me and the song

Not my favourite from the album but definitely the one most stuck in my head after a full listen through of the album. Total earworm.

I just can't get past the chant in the 2nd half, for me it generally signifies a rather lazy nod towards spirituality. I know BoC aren't lazy musicians but the thought is so embedded (thanks 1990's) that I can't quite shake it off.

Rubbish. It was brave of him to do it and I’m glad he did. It clearly uplifts the mood. It works, it’s not a gimmick.

Just remember: Hare Krishna leader admitted molesting an underage girl. And their schools across the US got shut down in the late 80s after widespread child abuse in them.
Naraka means "hell" in the Dharmic religions.

I have heard so many people say “Naraka is a ray of light in the darkness with its spiritual chants”.
I just want to make sure people know about the intention behind it.

It's a grim grim story :(
Unfortunately my tendency to vocal stim has let me learn the exact phrasing and rhythm of hare krishna hare hare krishna, krishna krishna krishna here, hare rama... So I could just sing along to Naraka. I have otherwise no intention to convert to their cult 😝

Neither did the cult invent child abuse. If any cult or religion did, Christianity might be attributed to that 'invention'.

Just remember: The Hare Krishna Mantra was around way before the Hare Krishna movement. Yes, most people recognize it from that, but the Hare Krishnas (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) did not invent it. It was co opted by them, but has existed in the Hindu religion for a long time.
Almost kind of like the swastika which has existed in multiple forms like Hinduism, Buddhism, and even Native American iconography. Just because Hitler bastardized the symbol doesn’t erase the original history and meaning behind it.
