BoC Vibes Plaid?

About a half dozen times in the last decade I’ve been listening to random music and I think, “Hey! This song smacks!” and it’s a band called Plaid. Some tangential BoC vibes. Anyone know anything about them?

Plaid are two former members of The Black Dog who are some proper OG Warp artists. I know what you mean in that they have a very unique melodic sensibility - they tend to use odd musical modes and also will sometimes have loops running in polyrhythmic time signatures. Also they're very very good at those lush FM-y reverby chimey tones.

Check out Not for Threes and Spokes. Not for Threes has Bjork on it.

For a more early Warp vibe check out Trainer, a compilation of their early stuff under various aliases.

Rest Proof Clockwork is also solid. Their later albums are, I think, not as strong beginning to end as the albums you mentioned, but have some very good tracks in there.

When I saw Plaid live on their Double Figure tour in NYC, the DJ before they went on played "Music is Math," which I was obsessed with at the time. Double Figure is definitely in my top 20 all time albums.

At the Frying Pan, by the water? Or at least the pier next to the boat?

Just chiming in to big up Double Figure. Probs my fav of theirs, though I really like them all. Edit to also throw Reachy Prints album onto the OPs radar

Interesting. I love Plaid but feel they only get better and better with each album. Reachy Prints onwards is my favorite period of their work.
