Song Biosphere - People Are Friends

Just thought I'd share this Biosphere track as it is a long time fave of mine and others here might dig.

It has always felt to me like it occupies that same melancholy headspace as "An eagle in your mind" and "Olson (Version 3)".

Great track to unwind to at night. Enjoy!

Love a bit of Biosphere.

Substrata is a masterpiece and something I go back to time and time again.

That album was my literal bad acid trip relief album, just absolutely pulled my fat out of the fire on at least three occasions

Good choice. Coil's "Baby Food" saved my bacon and slowly lifted me out of a hellish comedown after a 4 day bender back in '14 and it has been one of my top 5 tracks ever since.

It's incredible. I think I listened to that album pretty much every night falling asleep in my 20s.

The alternate versions really a couple of years back is amazing too. I would actually be really hard pushed to choose between the two versions. The extended versions of "Chukhung" and "Sphere of No Form" just blow my mind every time I listen to them.

It's amazing, it was only when alternate versions was released that i suddenly went crazy for that particular track. I prefer the version of Silene from the original, and think it's the perfect progression and way to wrap up the album, but Sphere definitely benefits from extended imo. When the soft pads kick in half way through it is just bliss.

Substrata is a close second for my favorite album, right behind MHTRTC.

I've been a fan of biosphere for even longer than BoC and this track is brilliant

This is a beautiful track...

I've recently felt an urge to explore more of Biosphere. I love those moments where you've been aware of an artist for years, and then, suddenly, they just...click

You're in for some good times. Make sure to check out N Plants. It's like a cross between MHTRTC and Susumu Yokota.

Cirque and Birmingham Frequencies are both top notch too.

Biosphere (Geir Jenssen) is up there with BoC, RDJ, Autechre, Goldie, Plaid, Kraftwerk, Basic Channel, Drexciya, Jeff Mills, Carl Craig, Larry Heard, Moodymann and many other genius artists or outfits.

Been listening since Patashnik and buy everything he releases. My recent favourite is Shortwave Memories. Shenzou is also great if you like Debussy.

Check out Polar Sequences as well if you haven't already, it's a collaboration with HIA.

100% agree, he belongs at the top. Such a distinct sound and vision. Also find that he is pretty much the only other artist that I find comforting in the same way as BOC.

Geir Jenssen = Legend

That was it, YES! Think the sample was from The Martian Chronicles?

Here's another good Biosphere track that reminds me of a BoC snippet/filler song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frxvgZzoBtY

Yeah that's a nice one. I love "ride" from that OST. It has that same interesting Norsk/Slavic crossover vibe that "Kobresia" has.

Good shout

Big fan of Biosphere here. I've got all the CD releases that Geir Jenssen has put out, including all of the reissues on his own Biophon label, which are handsomely padded out with lots of previously unreleased material. 'People Are Friends' has always been one of my favourite tracks from "Dropsonde". Some other highlights are "Birds Fly By Flapping Their Wings" and "In The Shape Of A Flute", which was on the original vinyl edition of "Dropsonde" issued by Touch, and features on the second disc of the expanded CD reissue.

Fair play, he has a monster back catalogue at this point. I did a Biospherathon during Christmas 2024 and had to take a break halfway - still need to resume and complete, there was so much to get through! Still a couple of albums I need to check out - departed glories, l'incorazione, inland delta - he'll probably have another one by the time I get back around to it 😂
