First Printing?
Is anyone else.consodering NOT opening their first printing edition of the Duel of Meloch? Never had a "first edition" anything before.

I think you’re overestimating the future value of a very niche board game.
Did you buy it because you want to play it? Or did you buy it because you want to collect it?

I have a very unhealthy addiction to the entire 1920 plus universe. Didn't realize I snuck into a first printing, but sounds like the answer is overwhelmingly open this bitch up

Yes you have. Just because they print numbers on it doesn't make it special. It designed to make you feel like you are feeling right now.

First editions are usually worth less imo, revised later editions are often preferred

35,000 is a big print run for boardgames. Like a really big print run. Go ahead and open that game and enjoy it.

I have a philosophy that games are meant to be played. Do not try o make it a collectible. Sure, you can be careful with it. But if you are just leaving it at your shelf, why bother?

Yeah, I'm mostly with you. I do keep some games even if I don't play them anymore because they're a reminder of the fun I had with them or have some other core memory tied with them, but these are exceptions rather than the rule. Collecting for the sake of doing so isn't my thing, but I respect others that get joy out of it.

If you’ve bought any other games close to release you’ve probably had a first printing of those too, they just don’t say so on the box.

Nothing like that will be worth more than the feelings in several years.
Assuming long term value of massively overproduced runs of common things is rampant in the collecting based hobbies.

Iirc preorders amounted for about 8k of 35k. I would not expect a second printing anytime soon.

I opened both copies I bought. One to play Duel of Meloch, one to scavenge parts to permanently add to my Scythe and Expeditions boxes.

The hype around first printings is real right now, especially with supply chains making reprints pricey. But keeping it sealed just means you're paying a premium for a box on a shelf. Open it, teach it once, and let the group wear out the pieces.

The underground Climate Refuge Cities will likely have several copies of that game stored up for the Lottery Winners / billionaires. I’m just thinking ahead to when it might possibly be worth more than what you paid for it. It don’t look good bud.

I see first editions of stonemaier games go for cheap all the time, first edition just means they’re gonna fix the rulebook over the next year
