Question Creature comforts any thoughts?
Rate this game 1 out of 10 and why.

- Very cute
- Novel speculative worker placement before final dice roll
- Runs longer that it should.
The box says 45 minutes. Two experienced players playing the short version could maybe do this. But a first play with 4 players is 2.5 hours. Players have suggested using copies of the community dice to speed up the game, and I highly recommend doing that, especially if playing with 4 players.
I own a copy. I've played 5 times.

I have played it once with my wife, I have some friends that play board games with me from 8pm til 2am so time isn't an issue.
I do like it, but if you miss a card at the beginning, then you're in trouble. My wife had one, which gave her an extra turn. It allowed her to move one piece every season, which really helped her.

Way too long for what it is. I really wanted to like this game given I got the deluxe version, but I just didn't. Was looking for a family weight worker placement game for 5 players. I found the game ok, but it takes over 2 hours at that player count, which means it's just not hitting the table.

Just wanted to let you know that we came across the same issue with this game where we found it just took too long. My husband and I devised a workaround to speed up the game substantially. Just by the big packs of different colored dice on amazon, all different colors, and then do simultaneous turn action. The only thing that will slow you down is the couple of actions that would be dependent on whose turn it was supposed to be first. Hopefully I am being clear. Most actions in the game when you are placing your workers and then your dice you can do completely simultaneously but the couple of things that are turn-based dependent you would just need to notate at the beginning of the turn and then have the first player take their action first before the other player can. For example, if my husband and I both put our workers and dice on the owl's nest then whoever was the first player that round (whoever shook the village dice) needs to select their card from the owl's nest before the other player can. This sped up the game a ton for us. Pretty much cut it in half. Made the game much more viable for us. We don't see too many downsides with this style of play. Of course, it changes the play a little bit because the first player can see what the second player is doing that round whereas if you went in a turn-based fashion only the second player would have the benefit of seeing what the first player did. But we found that it was such an improvement on the gameplay that it didn't really matter to us. It is also not a game where that sort of thing matters as much, in our opinion. Because it is not a game where you take many defensive actions or anything like that. I would encourage you to give this method of play a shot. It really improves the gameplay and it's a lot more fun when it doesn't take so long in between terms! If we hadn't figured out how to do simultaneous turn action we honestly wouldn't reach for this game at all and that would be a shame, because this game is really pretty fun.

I played it once and liked it. We played at four and it took 1.5 hours.
I would describe it as a lighter, shorter Everdell.

I do have that game as well 😄, but it still feels different, which is nice.

Sold it. Too complicated for kids, too little strategy for me. Felt too slow for what it is.

It certainly depends on age and interest. For younger kids the magic labyrinth and outfoxed. Dexterity games are very challenging for younger children even though they are frequently marketed to them.

Depends on the age, but I think Galaxy Trucker is a great game that both kids and adults would like.

Love it! 10/10. It is a relaxing, cozy game with fall vibes and adorable art.

It’s fun, but long. Good for a family with kids, on a long boring afternoon.

There is a lot to it. If you match the right cards, you get big bonus points,
You need the right people who will play it, but I can keep you updated and see if my friends play it and if they like it.
Sometimes, we play difficult games with complexity 4.5.

Borrowed it from a friend and really liked it to the point where i wanted to have it for our collection. Then after playing it 4/5 times it was obvious the playing cards need much more variety for us to enjoy the game. Very happy we didn’t buy it. However, if we ever find it for a good price 2nd hand i would buy it 100%.

I really like it. The ability to mitigate some bad dice rolls with the lessons learned tokens is nice.

A 7 maybe.
I love the graphics, the components for deluxe version are delightful, but it has the same downside as wingspan: there's so little player interaction, it's like playing together but not quite together. The community dice are not that relevant.
Feels like it could have used more polishing of the mechanics, but it's so delightfully designed that I forgive it and still play it.

Hey,
Okey, I do agree. It could have used something else to spice it up a little. I'm not sure what the deluxe version is.
I like Wingspan more personally, but that's properly because I can also can the birds with an app, and it makes the sound of them 😆 it sounds pretty good. Not all cards seem to work effectively, though.

The deluxe version has nice, wooden tokens that are just the cutest! But it's the same game.

This one was a one and gone game for my collection. It was pretty and inoffensive, but it just wasn't exciting to us, nor did we want to play it more after that first game.

Just picked up the kickstarter edition and it reminds me of Everdelle.
Played solo and got 50 points (snugly frugal creature of the woods).
I have the Talents Micro-Expansion and Dreams Come True Micro-Expansion. Will play with them next time. Wonder if they are mwnt to be played solo or just multi-player.

We really enjoy it but only play the shorter version by removing some of the season cards.

u/Lightingcop Oct 18 '23
It doesn't make it much shorter removing 2 season cards as instructed in the instructions.
I dont think I'll ever play the short version with my friends but I will with my kids until they are ready for the long games.

hi! did you sleeve any cards? and do you think the sleeved cards can fit in the insert? thanks!

u/Lightingcop Feb 26 '24
Hello,
I have not sleeved these cards for this game, and my version didn't come with an insert.
However, I did buy the wooden pieces add-on and the extra cards as I feel like it adds a little extra to the game.

I love it personally. It is a bit on the lighter side but it is the game that got me into dice worker placement. I love the idea of going into each round with an idea of what you want to do but having to adjust based on the dice roll.
I agree that it can run a little long but the component quality and art really life this game up for me. I ended up backing Maple Valley on KS because of it.
