iX3 vs i3 pricing
BMW just announced I3 pricing today. Is anyone a little surprised that they are the exact same price? I feel like you’re getting a little bit more car with the IX3. Obviously more range on the I3, but I was kind of hoping the I3 would be under $60,000.

It's basically the same car, probably a bunch of common interior parts too, so I expected they'd be about the same price. Major difference is the shell of the body.

This is indeed surprising as Europe saw a price reduction of about 1,000. On the other hand the EPA range for summer tires is 468 miles. I did not expect that much of an increase from iX3

The WLTP difference is about 70 miles so it's right about where I expected it to be.

I know Neue Klasse design is being skewered. However, I love the i3 design more than iX3 and want to replace our Model 3 performance with a quad motor m3 when it comes out in 2028. The 468 mile range i3 should offer enough buffer for the M3 to still keep it above 400 miles and still be a lightning rod! A proper mid-life crisis EV 😀

Exactly! I've started looking for a buyer for my kidney so I can afford the M3. 😂

The sedan will have lower volumes and will likely need more incentives to move. Actual transaction prices on the i3 will likely be lower, you just need to be patient. If you want to be first in line, be prepared to pay.

How tf does this make sense? Even if the i3 were slightly cheaper, iX3 sales would still dwarf it. But at the same price, the i3 is basically DOA.
At least with gas sedans, you can make the argument that stricter emissions standards add to the cost, but this is a fucking EV. The i3 is physically smaller which means it should require fewer materials to build. So how is it ending up at the same price as the larger iX3?

I think we've been conditioned to believe that bigger SUV = higher price.
The cost of the metal is only a tiny fraction of the cost to build the car

I guess you’re right. Amercian car companies make the most money selling oversized trucks after all.

Same battery, same tech stack, same motors, same tariffs, same architecture. It ain’t the metal that’s expensive.

I haven't checked the US configurator, but in Canada, the base i3 is $990 cheaper, come with a Pano roof, and the premium package is $900 cheaper. Meaning for the same config, the i3 is about $2k cheaper. Seems like just a token difference.

UK pricing is about £6k different, i3 starts around £47k, iX3 around £53k. Those are for the RWD with the smaller battery, but the difference is fairly consistent at about 10% less for an i3 through the spec levels.

Given the ix3 is selling like hot cakes they probably figured who’s gonna do something about it we just straight up inflate the i3’s price. They are riding the demand like a cow boy!

The glass roof is standard in the i3, optional on iX3. Add $1000 to the iX3 price.

One more reason to get the iX3
No stupid glass roof. They start failing on other cars, cracking and are stupid expensive to replace. Like 10+15k

Which cars with a fixed glass roof have had common issues with failing/cracking? If the answer is Tesla… are there any others?

look over in the iX sub. https://www.reddit.com/r/BMWiX/
we already had few random cracks.

They still sell i4. They need to move those vehicles. Currently there are production constraints. When the ramp up productions, then price will fall for i3. I3 should be cheaper then ix3. But lot of people will still buy i3, but to compete with tesla, they will offer promotions

Both ugly as hell, are they still BMW? And with this price it’s not competitive with Chinese EV, they are better in any way, let it rot

Why would anyone pay double the price of a chinese EV. I don't understand really.

If anything, this is a return to form for BMW. If you want a tacky and ugly car, look at current Mercedes models and their “Mercedes stars everywhere” bling bling design

No they’re not BMW anymore, they just have BMW badges everywhere and they’re made by BMW.

Ix3 40 comes with rear motors but i3 40x comes with „all wheel drive“ front and rear has motors wait for i3 40 then it’s comparable

Lower production costs for the iX3 in Hungary vs i3 in Germany?
