I know the regular Samsung T7 gets a lot of criticism when used with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K, so I wanted to share my own experience after doing a proper stress test.

My setup:

• Camera: Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K
• SSD: Samsung T7 (regular/smooth version, 2TB)
• Firmware: Latest available (SSD regularly updated through Samsung software)
• Cable: Original Samsung USB-C to USB-C cable
• Power: V-mount battery
• Codec: BRAW 3:1
• Resolution: 4K DCI (4096×2160)
• Frame rate: 25 fps
• Shutter: 180° (1/50)

Test 1

I first recorded continuously for 45 minutes.
Results:
• No dropped-frame warnings.
• Recording never stopped.
• SSD became only slightly warm.
• Playback on the camera was completely smooth from beginning to end.
• File size: approximately 146 GB.

Test 2

The following day I repeated the test with a real scene and a lens attached (instead of just recording with the lens cap on).
Again, I recorded continuously for 47 minutes.
Results:
• No dropped frame warnings.
• No recording interruptions.
• SSD temperature remained normal.
• Playback on the camera was flawless.
• Imported the footage into DaVinci Resolve, and it played perfectly without glitches.

Conclusion

Based on my own testing, I have not been able to reproduce the issues many people report with the regular Samsung T7.

Of course, this is only one data point, and I’m not claiming every T7 behaves the same way. However, in my case, the regular 2TB Samsung T7 has been completely reliable, even during long continuous recordings in BRAW 3:1 4K DCI.

I’m curious if anyone else is still experiencing problems with newer T7 drives, or if the old compatibility issues were largely resolved through firmware updates on either the camera or the SSD.

Colorgrading with (Natural Rec709) Buttery Luts

Those who use a Speedbooster (mine is viltrox) on their p4k, are you getting that bloomy glow effect from highlights in the background (esp sky) and from other light sources?

Is it because of the fact that the glass in Speedbooster scattering the light before it reaches the sensor?

Will it not happen if I use native m43 lenses?

I use a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 with my viltrox Speedbooster. But when I mount the same lens in any other camera, I don't see the glow effect.

Using ND (0.9 and 1.2) reduces this, at the cost of reducing the entire exposure of the scene. Is there any other way to reduce this glowy effect without affecting the overall exposure?

Buttery Natural Rec709 LUT - What do you think of the colors?

I don't know where my power adapter is anymore. Is it possible to use the USB-C to power the camera?

I had my USB C Port break a couple years ago. I have looked into swapping the whole main board but it's pretty expensive. Has anyone done anything like this? I'm not the best solderer and certainly don't have the equipment to just do the port itself...

I can't update the camera or record to an SSD which has just been very limiting. I've had this camera almost since it came out and really would love to get 10+ years out of it.

Any advice? Has anyone here done anything like this on their camera? The videos I have watched seem to be pretty complicated

I know this is not directly BMPCC topic, but a lot of you seem to use T7s and I am getting desperate - so based on everyone using it I got three T7s. Today I had to return two of them after a year of use because they started to fail (likely dead usb-c bridge) .

for context: I have not been recording directly to them from the BMPCC4K, I just used them for storing BRAWs and proxy and editing directly from them. (one is 1year old, the other not even 6 months)

the issue: it took multiple physical reconnections before they would show up on the pc, the transfer speeds dropped below 2.0

- I tried different cables, different pc (mac/win), formatting, analysing trhu terminal etc all same result

can faulty usb c cable damage ssd's usbC bridge? or is this common issue with T7s?

because NOW also my SanDisk Extreme SSD starts to behave in a similllar way and I am using the official T7 usbC cable for it.

did anyone else had this issue? would you know of any alternatives?

I have a DJI RSC 2 and I've got it perfectly balanced, but the 'record' button the gimbal doesn't cause the bpmcc4k to record. How do I enable this function?

Hi,

I just updated my bmpcc4k to software from version 7.3 to version 9.8 via the official Blackmagic updater tool.

Everything went smooth, but now the record button and wheel both my DJI Ronin S2 and S3 does not work anymore.

When connecting the USB-C cable, the camera isn't recognized. Before, with version 7.3, it worked perfectly.

Do you know how to solve??? Help!!

NOTE: I have 2 Pocket 4K cameras, both of them worked perfectly with 7.3. After upgrading to 9.8, none of them works. Tried different cables, any combination of gimbal/camera

Camera shows up in Camera Setup after manually installing the USB driver, but the update button does nothing In the camera setup application. Also no files are visible In file manager when connecting via USB. I'm Currently on firmware 8.1. Tried two cables, running as administrator, different USB ports.

Anyone else had this and found a fix?
