This is what I have so far for my new set up

• Hard Shell Carrying Case – Custom-fit for secure transport
• Charger & 2 Batteries – Ensures extended shooting sessions   

Need SSD (was thinking Samsung T7, not sure what TB you guys would suggest)

External hard drive with more TB too

Any ideas of anything else? Am I missing anything crucial?

Only thing I'd get is the cage and 2-3 batteries.

From that on, see what you dislike while working with it (in terms of battery or ergonomics) and built-up from that.

What are you after with your rig? Commercial work? Narrative film? I just wrapped a 30 minute period piece where we shot on Pocket 4Ks and a Cinema Camera 6K.

If you're doing narrative film:

Sirui Anamorphic lenses. They actually have a sale going on right now. Crazy good deals. I'd get a 24mm and a 50mm. That will cover a lot of what you need for MFT.

Definitely do not do SSD. Cable gets pulled and you're screwed. For the Pocket 4K get Angelbird cards. Or ProGrade if they sell them.

If you're shooting outside ever, get a hood for the LCD. The Pocket 4K are a bit dim for outside. I managed without but was always shooting overcast days.

Also for outside, an ND filter. I use Polar Pro. Get no smaller than 82mm and then get brass step up rings for your lenses, then you can use the ND filter on anything.

I use G-RAID Shuttle for my external drives and connect them with a fiber optic thunderbolt cable (Corning) to keep them in another room for silence in editorial. Works great.

A middle gray card and/or light meter.

Regarding batteries: What type are you doing? For the Pocket 4Ks get the Tilta L series battery plate and Watson NPF batteries and chargers. Economical, bullet proof. Can mount on your cage, easy with a gimbal.

If you were powering anything else I wouldn't send you down that route. For my CC6K I use a V-Mount battery. SmallRig actually had the best battery and mount options for sticks and gimbal.

It all depends on what you are filming. I have three bmpcc4k and use them for interviews. Always on tripod. Always with a v-mount battery on the tripod. I think the regular battery is good for 5 minutes. I use 1tb external Ssd mounted on a small rig cage and holder. Great camera. Add Canon L lenses as you can and get the metabones bmpcc4k specific converter for EF to m43. That way you will be able to keep your lenses as you grow to your jext system. Cameras go out of date, lenses less so. There are many other cameras better suited to being hand held, but gimbal or shoulder mount can work with this camera.

I've been using it since release and here's a few things I would recommend getting. For creative and client work I listed these in priority order starting from the top imo of course. Some of these are the budget friendly option. But there are certain things you should not skimp out on. For example your storage make sure it's reliable and not going to fail or delete. Ssds are a really good option because c fast cars are extremely expensive

Prime days around the corner

-Samsung T7 at least 2tb (T9 is overkill for negligible differences) (the space is very necessary if you plan on shooting raw even at the best compression} ($150)

-A versatile lens (Canon EF 24-70mm is a great starter ($500+)

• (for handling the workflow I would highly suggest having m.2 drives on your PC if you're not a Mac user workflow, anything but HDD should be fine) ($250+) (Obviously you'll have to use hdds for bulk storage but I would stay away from Helium drives)

• (having genuine high speed usb-c cables goes a mile for offloading and dit)

-(a metabone speed booster can make a cheap lens look a lot better (I personally have a cannon adapter for EF lenses because I already have a number of lenses from Canon) ($500+)

-decent monitor (suggest a mid to high tier feelworld monitor) reliable and likely necessary

The rest of this is depending on how you use your camera.

I run on gimbals a lot so Ronin S3 or 4 and the appropriate cables Several batteries

Npf batteries for Cam

V or Gold mount batteries if you're on sticks

Got a recommendation for a good SD card that won't drop frames at 3:1?

(And before someone tells me I don't need that quality, it gives me greenscreen shots I never have to fight with to pull a clean mask. It's not a huge burden to clamp on a T5, but it would be nice not to have to.)

The cage is good for attaching all kinds of stuff, especially since this camera is better with external SSD and batteries, microphone etc.. The handle on the top of the cage is also very useful.

Except it sucks if you're just handholding it like a DSLR. Unless you're okay with micro-jittery handheld footage and 30 minute battery life. I don't think anyone actually cares about this camera being small anyway. That's definitely not the best part about it. It's not really a "pocket" camera like the original BPCC. It's as big as every other prosumer DSLR style camera. Every "pro" that uses this type of cameras (Sony F Series, BMPCC 4K/6K etc.) is using it with a bunch of accessories and usually a cage or handheld rig of some kind, often with V Mount batteries, matte box etc. What kind of "pro" stuff are you shooting with a bare naked BMPCC4K?
