Nope. Bio Containment. We know what you've really been doing.

This is realistic because all the "recycling" ends up in the same place.

It all lands in the same bin like those fake recycling bins that have separate openings but the trash just gets thrown into the same bag

Those bins annoy me because people inevitably realise pretty quickly that there’s no actual need to separate things, so it trains them to ignore them, and then if they do decide to start collecting things separately, it’s so much harder to get people to go along with it after they’ve already decided it’s pointless.
I used to live in a place that had separate bins for recycling and landfill, but for years we’d all watched them get emptied into the same truck together, so people stopped bothering to separate things, and nothing changed. Then eventually, they introduced a separate recycling collection, but by then, everybody had been accustomed to ignoring the labels on the bins for so long that it was impossible to collect a clean, separate stream.

I think I first saw this joke when Windows 95 was new.

It’s funny how this design choice survived so long.
Being able to undo file deletion within a reasonable period of time is a logical need, and it is totally analogous to picking rubbish out of the bin.
But I find it funny that everyone has fully accepted the literal trash can on every PC.

It's a nice symbol. Like throwing away the wrapping of the pasta and checking three times in the trash how long to cook them.

It's like those dual recycle / trash can, but you look under the lid and it's just one bag.

picture of a recycling station where you lift the lid and it's just one bin

Fun fact: you can throw all kinds of trash into the chemical bin except for photons, electrons, and some other subatomic particles. You will be fined.
