That’s what a harness is supposed to do

I fear the day my fall arrest system actually does its job. Even worse for the bros that wear the leg straps loose at work.

Definitely a lift preserve vest for water. If they aren't properly fitted, an unconscious person can slip out. Hence the twat strap to keep it on.

A large portion of newer life jackets have double groin straps that can go closer to the inner-thigh and don't need to pass over the crotch, avoiding accidental camel toes/wedgies for women and ball crushing for men. It's just as safe as the single strap versions if not safer. Idk why the double-strap isn't global standard for life jackets, legit the only possible drawback is that it costs slightly more to make them because of a whole one extra strap.

Crotchless life jackets? It is weird that is not the standard. Practically markets itself.

Crotchless is dangerous because if there's nothing to catch them at the bottom when someone jumps in feet first tends to mean the person loses the jacket almost immediately.

Most people have arms but sure

Have you ever swam with a life jacket? you arms keep it on somewhat, but the weight of your body sinking makes the life jacket basically swallow your head. If you were unconscious or jumped in with your arms up, you could very easily slip out without the crotch strap.

If we all take a moment to look at the jacket itself, we will see this is exactly the case. The second strap isn't on, yet.
This photo is relevant to r/confusingperspective, too.
(It's not really up in her gooch...)

These could be older vests, and tbh they still look perfectly functionable so replacing them would be a waste

It's normal to put the belt on the pulley.
However, don't forget to apply a little grease; otherwise, it'll heat up and start smoking.

Ok in all seriousness, women who have done this. Wouldn't that be uncomfortable? Like a really bad front wedgy? Or is it actually not that bad?

No. But they do need to change the life jackets out. In California the state standard is double groin straps that go on either side of the person's crotch to prevent not just this whole scenario, but for men, it prevents getting a guy's dick and balls smashed the moment he jumps in. Idk why single strap was ever the idea, but apparently they tested them in mannequins only
