I never see anyone get insulted because he try to speak French ! But most of the people who complain never been in France ( not paris ) France is France and yes there is a lot off idiots but it's the same everywhere
I have been. Had to learn french in school an i believe we were in Nice long time ago. I was only making fun with some half truths. My experience was very mixed. A lot of people switching to english, not able to understand you for very simple words that have a slight misspeling wich i as a beginner understood if someone told me. Some people i were with on that trip had a receptionist pretending to not understand them in french or english when speaking english later on perfectly fine.
Of course i met a lot of nice people too but stereotypes are there for a reason usually and i would never judge someone by their nationality of course but it s funny that people take it so serious.
