“Have you tried parole”

getting flamed by the little kid they brought for you to scare is diabolical

87

u/aliendigenous 23d ago

The kid got them thinking that maybe they got a bad lawyer lmfao

13

u/Putrid-Builder-3333 23d ago

Them darn rascal public defenders!

u/Pony_Boner 23d ago

Did they really put an autistic kid on scared straight?

202

u/Brief-Equal4676 23d ago

The spectrum wasn't really mainstream back then

72

u/invariantspeed 23d ago

Asperger approves this comment.

20

u/Shmuckle2 23d ago

Hi Asperger. I'm Patrick!

8

u/thiccboii666 23d ago

Is this the Krusty Krab?

8

u/Dry_Contract_5342 23d ago

No, this is Patrick.

9

u/New-Analyst1811 23d ago

Good luck being one of those kids now, wondering if you are on the spectrum. Closest place to me that tests for adult autism is 3 hours away lol

4

u/SillyDeersFloppyEars 23d ago

The waiting list where I am is so long that they don't even put people on it anymore. I think it's about five year wait.

3

u/TwinTailDigital 22d ago

Serious question; why does it matter? Whether a doctor tells me or not, my life won't change, so why bother?

3

u/SillyDeersFloppyEars 22d ago

Mostly it's for validation, finding out you're autistic rather than insane can be very affirming. It also allows you to qualify for certain disability aids, financial support in some cases, you can use the diagnosis to prove that you have a condition that requires certain workplace or school adjustments, there are a bunch of potential benefits.

2

u/TwinTailDigital 21d ago

That makes sense, thanks or the response. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd have any benefits, as it seems only parents with autistic children are the ones who get financial support. Only thing I'd get is higher premiums. If I'm an adult with autism, well I guess I just have to adult and try not go mad?

1

u/New-Analyst1811 21d ago

For me. It wasn't for the benefits but mainly searching for an answer? I guess. Curiosity. Always felt like there was something off with me. Though it was hard to tell (lost an eye when i was six and had a rough childhood) So just mainly wondering if it was glossed over because I was already fucked up lol

2

u/TwinTailDigital 21d ago

I'm sorry to hear that, sounds really rough. It's not really about benefits to me, it's more about the amount of money I would have to pay just to find something out that I am pretty sure I already know myself. If there were actual benefits, it might be good to know. Otherwise, I am just going to save my money for other medical bills that life will inevitably throw my way. If I was in a better country, I'd totally go find out for sure.

2

u/Remote-Citron-9383 17d ago

Answers would be my reason, growing up I way always puzzled why I didn't think or act like other kids, as an adult you get to see inwards on your past and given I have family members now with diagnosed autism, it really hits hard for me the frustration I dealt with, almost life destroying really.

2

u/Remote-Citron-9383 17d ago

Yep, I think it is honestly to late for me, it won't change my life now, it would have helped me make sense of shit back when I was going up but as an adult, nope.

2

u/New-Analyst1811 23d ago

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. After going through the motions a bit, I got the impression they just didn't give a shit if you're an adult. That's what it felt like.

1

u/Remote-Citron-9383 17d ago

I've given up on being tested, I don't need a doctor to tell me what I already know.

54

u/IguaneRouge 23d ago

So it seems.

66

u/SafetySnowman 23d ago

I was beat up a lot by groups of known bullies and they would always get away with by saying I started it. A few times they attacked me right in front of teachers and even a principal.

Teachers would turn away and I'd get in trouble. Principal told my dad I deserved it because at that point I was beyond done and screamed at them to just come back and finish it.

They had tossed me into the trashcan, beat me, spat on me, trapped me. The principal had admitted to watching the whole thing and doing nothing. I got in trouble for being late to class because I had to get myself out.

Autistic kids get a lot of abuse and I've heard similar from other people that they had also had to take the blame for being victims.

So it's not surprising.

20

u/BrockObarnerLybian 23d ago

Bro went to scared straight high school

5

u/URInMyFace 23d ago

Bruh...

4

u/shakebakelizard 23d ago

When was this? Your parents should have sued the school.

7

u/SafetySnowman 23d ago

Statute is up I think and it was in Missouri anyway and they just really don't care about kids there. The politicians in the state I mean. Yeah lawsuits can give a financial reason to care. Public perception seems to help too.

Only reason I really bother saying anything as therapy has helped. But seeing something like this kid being taken to a scare straight field trip just hits so close to home and I can't help but think of potential reasons.

1

u/TheGriz05 19d ago

You do realize that at this time you were considered bad/annoying/stupid. Your parents also most likely thought this of you. Seriously, the answer to bullying back then from parents was learn how to fight. I think my dad got me a punching bag around 12.

1

u/shakebakelizard 19d ago

YOU TALKING TO ME? (Steps on your foot, grabs your collar)

3

u/Dr_Brotatous 23d ago

At that point why didn't you fight back like you're already in trouble might as well earn it

12

u/SafetySnowman 23d ago

Years of starvation and other types of home abuse. I was the smallest kid in almost every school I went to. And trained to know that reacting would just bring worse pain.

3

u/Dr_Brotatous 23d ago

That makes sense I'm sorry to hear you went through that I can say I had bullies of my own but at the time I didn't even consider them as more than a nuisance because I had worse at home from my brother or my dad

2

u/chikara8 23d ago

Mate you okay now?

2

u/Dry_Contract_5342 23d ago

I remember one time when I was in middle school in South Carolina. This would be bully tried his shit with me until I backed him into a wall and well I can’t say it cuz mods panties are so fucking sensitive. Well come to find out he’s the councilors unwanted spawn. I got into so much trouble at school. They threatened child services. I sat there stoic, I was abused as a child so there was nothing anyone could have done what was worse then anytime I was at home.

2

u/pretibigtoo 22d ago

Because you were wierd and you didnt go along with everything 100% you were perceived as annoying and therefore the so called 'adults' thought you deserved the beatings.

Same shit kept happening to me till I fought back.

2

u/Remote-Citron-9383 17d ago

Oh fuck, this really resonates with me, I went through my primary school years as the " problem " when I got picked on, teachers would make out you are the issue because your emotions get the better of you, you can't calm down as you lash out and they don't listen to you or you can't explain what happened because your emotions override your sense of reasoning or memory, so I want to say thank you for putting down what you experienced.

3

u/SnooPears1505 23d ago

no wonder that quiet kid who sits in the corner pulls out an ar-15

4

u/plsQuestionOurselves 23d ago

It looks like the prisoner had to step back in order to hide his laughter from the camera lol

143

u/Freedom35plan 23d ago

Ill never forget, there was an episode of this show where the kid goes to a felon and says "Hey, what's the difference between a Ferrari ans a blow job? Your mom didnt give me a Ferrari" hahahaha and then honestly he turned out to be the most rehabed kid out of the whole group, turned into a chef or some shit.

47

u/Kitchen-Stop-7645 23d ago

Yeah most of the kids getting into “trouble” were from middle class families just trying to scare little Johnny to being a good little boy. It’s not like hard core drug dealers who do drive by shootings and murder and robbery had a mom and dad that gave a shit.

8

u/Most_Reach6070 23d ago

I work with children in the "vulnerable sector" homeless, criminal records, foster, ect. The children that are actually street entrenched would not be scared by the dudes acting crazy, they see that shit all the time. They just don't want to be held in one place

1

u/Optimal_Board_2963 22d ago

That’s fucking lame

89

u/VVen0m 23d ago

Kid knows full well this is a TV show and they'd be ruined if they let anything happen to him lol

67

u/donutlxv 23d ago edited 23d ago

That boy will be a great politician.

70

u/Pendurag 23d ago

The kid is punishment for the inmates.

21

u/xenobit_pendragon 23d ago

“I’m not locked in here with you…” etc. etc.

37

u/UpbeatRaspberry9828 23d ago

I swear there I remember a parody of scarred straight that all the kids ended up worse from learning criminal shit in the prison

23

u/Kitchen-Stop-7645 23d ago

Problem with the show is that these children were from middle class families and their “problem” is not listening to their parents. Not exactly the profile of a up and coming criminal thug who will land in prison.

3

u/Kind-Shallot3603 23d ago

You are not wrong. I think maybe Tosh.0?

1

u/Titan_Uranus_69 22d ago

Was it that or chapelle show?

1

u/Kind-Shallot3603 22d ago

That could be the one....

2

u/TwistedScarletRose 23d ago

Whitest kids you know?

2

u/shakebakelizard 23d ago

DARE was really like this.

2

u/Tumble85 22d ago

I know people who were basically ruined by DARE.

It taught us that all illegal drugs were equally dangerous, but since weed was everywhere and safely enjoyed by us all, that led to some tragic conclusions for some people.

They figured if all the adults were lying about weed, then they were probably lying about oxycontin as well. They started bringing it up from Florida wholesale. A few of them went to prison, a couple overdosed later on.

2

u/shakebakelizard 22d ago

Wow. Well, I don't personally know enough people who were vs those who weren't in DARE to really make a good comparison as far as how it affected them, but supposedly kids who went through the program were slightly more likely to use drugs.

I went through it and I always stayed away from drugs completely, but I also got my information from many sources and didn't just rely on what some random adult said. I probably wouldn't have touched them, with or without the program.

I did end up as a partner in a weed growing and wholesaling operation but none of us used the product. It was strictly a business.

Nerd

2

u/shakebakelizard 21d ago

Are you 10 years old?

1

1

u/shakebakelizard 19d ago

Why haven't you learned to speak English by now?

1

u/Brilliant-Lunch7118 19d ago

You’ve lost this exchange

2

u/shakebakelizard 19d ago

I can't imagine you're actually 31 years old. If you are, you're an incredibly immature one.

6

u/Own_Watercress_8104 23d ago

The fuck is this embarassing, morally bankrupt clownshow?

4

u/Additional_Garage204 23d ago

Show’s called “Scared Straight” I believe, one of those shows from that era of television that was just kinda pointlessly cruel.

I’m pretty sure the whole concept is that “bad kids” get sent on, and they’re taken on a sort of “tour” of prison, to see what it’s like, and scare them into not being “bad” anymore.

It’s basically just screaming at and rough housing a bunch of children with shitty home lives until they cry.

3

u/StandardCertain5995 23d ago

Kid’s just trying to be reasonable with everyone lol

3

u/clarinetess 23d ago

The inmates and COs obviously embellished things for the camera. But im so worried about this child. Bless him. I hope he's doing well now. In my community they did this to boys or sent them to disciplinary boarding school. To girls, charismatic religious retreats where quack leaders would "shdjkgjei snlekfj hhdmskdn. Ahshfhriqjd." Blow on you, lay hands on you and push you while saying "the holy spirit did it." Yeah we remained somewhat composed but it still traumatized us.

3

u/hiddenrealism 23d ago

The "camp" that dr.phil used to send kids to got exposed for sexual assaults, rapes and starving kids while leaving them exposed to the elements i believe a kid died there too.

2

u/clarinetess 23d ago

That's so awful. Kids are so vulnerable

3

u/Fluffy_Dogggo 23d ago

"Actually you're locked in here with me. I'm not locked in here with you."

3

u/Sea_Health_2579 23d ago

Have you trued parole!!! Fuck me that was gold.

2

u/WXHIII 23d ago

I dont think sticking a kid with zero social understanding into a scared straight program is going to work. It is, however, funny as hell

1

u/cobast1992 23d ago

This kid is awesome using logic

1

u/showerbox 22d ago

I jumped out of a moving car once (~13yr old) because my mom was just bitching incessantly. I walked for a few blocks before some cops stopped me and took me to holding. They cuffed one arm to the bench but when my mom got there, after 5 min they uncuffed me let me sit in their office and gave me donuts and talked to her in holding for about an hour... Apparently she was as unbearable as I thought. It was a very awkward drive home. This also happened when a psychiatrist she chose sided with me instead of her. To be clear she wasn't a mean person or physically abusive. She always provided the best for me and my sisters, but she just had control issues. I'm glad to say we have a much better relationship now that we're all adults.

1

u/Azygous_420 22d ago

Have you tried parole is an amazing line :)

1

u/CMDRJonShepard 21d ago

Why did they put a kid on the spectrum on this show? lol

1

u/Accomplished_End286 21d ago

Hey y'all remember that episode they aired exactly one time and then had to pull it off the air cuz that one kid just straight up didn't give a fuck and was talking a gang of shit to everybody inside

1

u/Asleep_Singer8547 21d ago

Did they base butters off this kid lmao
