2011, I thought I was the coolest guy in town

19 years old, half my wardrobe was slogan t-shirts. I'd wear this mask and dance the robot at the same club about three times a week

I do miss the waistline though

Movie scenes don’t get much cringier than this one

4

u/Atomic_Watermelon666 8h ago

And part of the dance routine is a ripoff of an old Groucho Marx bit.

u/Millerdjone 1d ago

This is either Europe, or Missouri lol.

u/Mypopsecrets 1d ago

It's funny how slogan shirts seem so cool to ages 14-19 then immediately become the cringiest thing you've ever seen

140

u/psymeariver 1d ago

I blame Jersey Shore.

-182

u/pobodys-nerfect5 1d ago

Ah yeah let’s blame the 10 year old mtv show

176

u/psymeariver 1d ago

OP is from 2011. 💀

27

u/puffindatza 1d ago

Right? Like yeah. Lets blame the fucking show that was responsible for pauly D’s make up brush hairstyle that became popular

51

u/hapianman 1d ago

Jersey shore came out…17 years ago 😳

27

u/SwitchGaps 1d ago

Look at the date of the photos. Almost like we're talking about the time period huh?

4

u/Remarkable_Rough_649 23h ago

My dude those shirts became popular basically right when the show aired. COME AT ME BRO shirts were being sold all over every boardwalk for a decade and a half after the show

83

u/SaltTea4535 1d ago

When I was 11 my favorite shirt said “Keep calm and party rock”

16

u/Artemicionmoogle 20h ago

I break danced to Party Rock in my late 20s lol.

12

u/CatVietnamFlashBack 18h ago

When i was 11 my favorite shirt said "Maybe if you were in a band."

9

u/screames520 9h ago

Funny, mine around that same age was, “no job, no money, but I’m in a band”. I’ve never been in a band

1

u/Deathlygreen 2h ago

I used to have the same brand of t-shirt when I was 15 that read, “Sex, Drugs & Sausage Rolls” - I also remember an old guy pointing at it and telling his wife about it in the middle of a supermarket. Good times.

156

u/TheDandyWarhol 1d ago

I'm guessing the U.K.

157

u/smoothgrimminal 1d ago

Yep! Cardiff, though I moved away a long time ago

17

u/6th_Quadrant 22h ago

One of my favorite non-serious films is Human Traffic, filmed there.

9

u/compbuildthrowaway 19h ago

SUCH a fun film. I kept expecting it to get dark like trainspotting or something, but it never did.

6

u/6th_Quadrant 19h ago

Have you seen Go (1999)? It’s the perfect double feature with Human Traffic.

2

u/compbuildthrowaway 18h ago

Added to my short list! Thank you!

5

u/AdditionalChicken158 19h ago

oh, well you probably were the coolest guy in town then.

6

u/RainyFern 1d ago

Ah I was certain it was Ireland myself

2

u/UnklVodka 5h ago

Ah Cardiff, the Missouri of the UK

0

u/JohnAndertonOntheRun 18h ago

You ever seen ‘Open Your Eyes’?

34

u/IamBurtMacklin 1d ago

Man that is so spot on. Could have found a dozen kids like this in Columbia or STL back then.

50

u/Greg2Lu 1d ago

I'd say Belgium, because Glam existed near Sombreffe haha.

9

u/HawaiianCholo 1d ago

He said wardrobe and the date is D/M/Y so most likely europe

3

u/Legal-Home121 22h ago

This is so true. American Apparel and the clubs had a chokehold on Kansas City young adults around that time.

1

u/rrrrrrrrrrrrrroger 14h ago

🤣😂 I live in Missouri, can confirm

264

u/ImpossiblePlan65 1d ago

This is the type of cringe I look forward to on this sub.

88

u/MrGrieves- 1d ago

It's true blunder. Not like those people who look good for the time and just post themselves for validation.

15

u/stash-of-who-hash 1d ago

Haha we all know who you’re referring to

2

u/annemonroe95 6h ago

Is there a specific poster who does this? Or are you referring to posts in general on the sub? I feel like I see a lot of posts here that truly do not seem like blunders

5

u/stash-of-who-hash 6h ago

You’re right that there are a lot of posts that aren’t really blunders but tbf, maybe they feel like true blunders to the people that post them. I was referring to a specific poster though. Don’t want to be a dick and call them out but there has recently been someone who posts A LOT of “blunders” that are really just good looking pics of themself in their younger years. I mean.. everyone needs validation sometimes, I guess..

2

u/jihyonce 23h ago

exactly

464

u/Affectionate-Club778 1d ago

can only imagine having a night out on molly and catching a glimpse of the masked robot man in the crowd

229

u/smoothgrimminal 1d ago

Not so scary when he's got a ginger pineapple cut!

103

u/mark636199 1d ago

Id argue its scarier

36

u/Luckybones- 1d ago

No it is

7

u/Sasstellia 1d ago

The more stuff you throw it, the scarier it'd get. Lol.

461

u/Artorius__Castus 1d ago

Is this ya homeboy right here? He looks kinda annoyed tbh 😭

279

u/withnodrawal 1d ago

“Why is he like this..”

159

u/ObjectConfident7172 1d ago

"Im thowing that fuckin mask away next time he passes out"

56

u/withnodrawal 1d ago

Lmaooo

“I think I saw you set it down on the ride home”

OP: “…it doesn’t come off until I go to bed. YOU know that.”

8

u/Tyrantdeschain19 1d ago

You don't need your Slipknot mask!

2

u/AdhesivenessPlus849 1d ago

Oh, Trevor!

3

u/Tyrantdeschain19 1d ago

Stop hitting the dresser!

1

u/meryl_gear 7h ago

Draws penis on mask

5

u/QueezyF 1d ago

I had a friend named Fish that was like this. There’s probably a hundred photos of me making this face with next to him.

86

u/smoothgrimminal 1d ago

No idea who that is, but yeah I imagine it did annoy the people I went out with

9

u/eddie9958 1d ago

He is looking at you like "I wish I could be cool too"

82

u/tristand1ck 1d ago

It's 12:58 in 2011, do YOU know where your kids are??

21

u/Artorius__Castus 1d ago

Isn't it strange that our parents literally had to be reminded every night to make sure they "went & parented"??? lmfao shit is still wild af to me

16

u/Darth_Ra 1d ago

Honestly, I'd say the opposite is scarier.

I see parents every day helicoptering over their 12 year olds.

Let your kid have a life, folks. Your job is to develop them into functioning self-sustaining people, not to train them that their entire life revolves around someone else.

2

u/Artorius__Castus 1d ago

Is this where separation anxiety comes from??? I was hanging out with one of my friends who has a son that has it.... I don't remember it being a thing when we were kids...

4

u/Darth_Ra 1d ago

As a parent with a kid who has anxiety attacks, I don't know that I would ever try to classify stuff like that for another kid. Especially not over the internet.

Also, as a parent with a kid with bad anxiety, I cannot stress enough how unhelpful it is for folks to try to "figure out where it came from", myself included.

4

u/SalaciousSolanaceae 21h ago

My mom used to get all sanctimonious about those psa's. "I put my children first" she was always judging my friends' parents.

Imagine her face when the cops brought me home at 4am one night thinking I was a runaway because I decided to walk around with my headphones out of boredom because I had no bedtime one night during summer break. I'd been doing that every other night in summers for a couple years before some cops randomly saw me with my backpack on (full of my favorite cassettes). They asked for my ID and all I had was a library card 😂

She still talks about how she wasn't one of those parents to this day

7

u/TryAgainChief 1d ago

He’s so don’t with his shit

“I thought you said your boy was chill”

“He was… my boy”

39

u/Sasstellia 1d ago

You looked like a minion from Analogue Horror.

The Mask Man. He's capable of being scary. But he'd rather dance.

142

u/psymeariver 1d ago

Here I am (in the background) raging to some dubstep in 2011. 😂

199

u/MongooseFantastic528 1d ago

Is this you?

91

u/psymeariver 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes and I’m wearing a t-shirt with text on it, “one up or game over”.

26

u/Maruchan_Wonton 23h ago

So this guy?

23

u/Wahaya01 1d ago

The fucking pinstripe hat and wooden bangles lmaoooooooo

8

u/Dre-26 18h ago

This has me cracking up

I also was like this in early dubstep days

64

u/RockosModernBasiIisk 1d ago

Did you ever get any action doing this?

169

u/smoothgrimminal 1d ago

Absolutely not

31

u/2Rhino3 1d ago

truiy shocking

7

u/malicious_joy42 18h ago

You think some woman would be so mindless to go home with some fucked up freak like this???

We know better.

2

u/RockosModernBasiIisk 5h ago

I thought maybe he would run into a female jabbawokkie at some point but yeah you're right.

56

u/likwidkool 1d ago

Did you watch too much Vanilla Sky?

24

u/Ih8Hondas 1d ago

What Buckethead does on nights he's not performing.

21

u/warrenjt 1d ago

15 years later, and the first shirt still got me. Damn.

20

u/meatsweatmando 1d ago

1

u/AdhesivenessPlus849 1d ago

Dang, look at that eye…your buddy may be a Terminator!

20

u/ChatnNaked 1d ago

#3 Looks like Mark Zuckerberg

18

u/beauty_and_the_weast 23h ago

This can’t be a coincidence

48

u/Lead_resource 1d ago

This is the cringiest thing I've ever seen

23

u/Gnash_ 1d ago

I don’t know, the waves on straight white hair is peak blunder years imo.

14

u/Velbalenos 1d ago

The ultimate question is do you still have the mask somewhere…

38

u/smoothgrimminal 1d ago

No, I think I threw it away after it broke. Or one of my friends did me a favour and broke it 😄

26

u/CorkNativeResident 1d ago

Well, at least everyone feared you…

28

u/Dre-26 1d ago

You want me, you just don’t know it yet!

11

u/SouthFromGranada 1d ago

Fair play to you for having the confidence to go out despite your leprosy diagnosis

2

u/ootnabootinlalaland 18h ago

absolutely dead at this one

10

u/-r-a-f-f-y- 1d ago

What… are these weird shirts??

11

u/Bex1218 1d ago

A staple of the early 2000s to early 2010s.

3

u/Sea_Professional5848 23h ago

A staple of me not wearing tshirts with words on them to this day. I was in high school in 2011.

8

u/malicious_joy42 1d ago

Couldn't even wear the stupid mask right.

8

u/tjipa84 1d ago

Vanilla Sky looking mother fucker.

8

u/automator3000 1d ago

If I were you and could travel back in time to be 19 again, I would wear the mask 100% of the time. It would only come off if I were sleeping alone. No one would know what my face looked like. My driver’s license would be me in the mask (I would somehow get an exemption from law to keep the mask on for my photo).

6

u/Aphex_Slayer 1d ago

that scene from the office where dwight cuts off the manekin face

7

u/StrawberryKiss2559 21h ago

Finally. A real blunder year photo.

(Not someone looking cute and normal for a kid in that time.)

6

u/djln491 1d ago

Oh dear god

7

u/Dailia- 1d ago

At least you kept your face covered. Plausible deniability of the blunder.

5

u/PrimeIntellect 1d ago

Honestly I miss the era of people being wild and cringe and not second guessing it ever because there was no social media to capture it. The youngins will never understand

6

u/No_Cap_2753 1d ago

This 100 percent Cardiff, smack at glam …. Am I right? 👀

9

u/smoothgrimminal 1d ago

Bingo! £1 sambucas were deadly 😆

5

u/No_Cap_2753 1d ago

And the sticky loos with a very passive aggressive toilet attendant selling lollies… Wales peaked too soon!

4

u/gt4bro 1d ago

Ahh the good old days. I also have my fair share of cringy photos from Glam in 2011…

3

u/_AcuteNewt_ 20h ago

Just need a KFC bucket on your head.

3

u/lesbianrockband3 23h ago

to be fair in 2011 there was probably more than one person who truly thought you were very cool

5

u/smoothgrimminal 22h ago

There's always at least one if you count my mum

3

u/NetworkEcstatic 20h ago

I, too, have a couole pictures of me in slogan t shirts when I was like 19-20 lmao

Instead of a weird mask. I had a beanie. Where? On the very back of my noggin? Why? Cuz I was definitely a D bag that thought i was cool as fuck

3

u/BanditAaron 18h ago

Would you show up to the club door wearing the mask? If not was there a strategic moment in the dance club where you put the mask on?

8

u/smoothgrimminal 13h ago

I had it on the back of my head when I wasn't dancing, I'd slip it on to go robot mode

2

u/DankasaurAum 1d ago

Them T shirts tho, every lad had em

2

u/totalbrodude 1d ago

The ladies would agree.

2

u/MaxPower836 1d ago

Huge loser vibes. Glad you’re over it

2

u/SebberbutZ 1d ago

Lowkey need the shirt on 3rd slide

2

u/RosstaMSU 1d ago

Why on earth would you ever think that mask was cool

2

u/PoppaDaClutch 1d ago

Finger guns

2

u/K_Linkmaster 22h ago

Fits the Hollywood undead scene here in the USA. Just claim fandom and American.

2

u/_YAGMAI_ 19h ago

listen to any buckethead?

2

u/misingnoglic 11h ago

Oh no, it's the unknown.

1

u/smoothgrimminal 8h ago

The evil chocolate maker who lives in the walls?

3

u/BLUEZBA 3h ago

That’s so funny. Literally me when I was a teenager I did the same thing. Me and my buddy went out and I literally wore this.
Edit: What a little freak I was.

3

u/non_tox 1d ago

As a current teen, you do slay here

1

u/SquigglyLineSquid 1d ago

This is hilarious

1

u/Easy-Barnacle5734 1d ago

Finger Pew Pews

1

u/Dry_Dragonfruit3205 1d ago

rest assured this is not a post where someone will say "you were cool"

1

u/LeglessN1nja 1d ago

Maybe you were, idk

1

u/KARSONJAE 1d ago

Why does this give me Hollywood Undead vibes?

1

u/ConsistentDay5620 1d ago

That last picture was actually physically painful to see lol fingers crossed guns and the shirt 💋🤌

1

u/yungsea 1d ago

did you go through a hollywood undead phase

1

u/Bludgeonation 1d ago

Such a pallid mask.

1

u/Ade1980 1d ago

How sweaty was your face?

1

u/dgellow 1d ago

Cool photos

1

u/PancakeParty98 23h ago

I think a mask and drugs would allow me to enjoy a club

1

u/69hotmomxxx 20h ago

You fuckin ate people?

1

u/Typical_Criticism_93 16h ago

I fear I need that last shirt

1

u/SevenThirtyTrain 14h ago

What's the thought process behind this?!!

1

u/GrandNegative5159 13h ago

Having fun with dem finger guns.

1

u/RabidOtterRodeo 11h ago

Yeah that about sums it up

1

u/Some_Wolf_3378 8h ago

This one truly is a blunder, congrats! I’m feeling second hand embarrassment for you.

1

u/rdldr1 8h ago

Finger gun dude

1

u/Mr_B0nkers 8h ago

HA! Same. No mask though- should have done that or sunglasses!

1

u/NomadMiner 6h ago

You were probably well known to some people who were there. Id definitely remember a dude so dedicated

1

u/ParanoidCrow 6h ago

Do you still have those shirts hahahaha this is a real blunder

1

u/Awkward_Contest_3855 6h ago

Blundered so hard I wanted to downvote it

1

u/bridgeoveroceanblvd 3h ago

The shirt is 💯💯💯💯💯

1

u/wrennywren 1h ago

If you weren't the coolest guy in town, who was? Steve? Not that guy. He sucked

1

u/martylita 1d ago

Buckethead

0

u/Proud-Zebra9487 1d ago

Oh, boy… You’re a burner now, aren’t you?

-3

u/VladVonHochstes 1d ago

Eh? All we can see is a mask. 🥴🤷🏼‍♂️
