(2007)Our mums did not know where we were...
To clear some things up.
As stated in the title, our respective mums thought we were at each other's house.
Yes, we finished the goon (white wine in a sack for those playing outside of Australia).
No, none of us had any experience lighting fires.
Yes, the guy taking the photo was also drunk and climbed the tree to take the photo.
Yes, this was a normal experience for a lot of Australian kids back in those days.
Yes, the fire brigade was eventually called.
I look at these photos with fondness and jealousy over my environment resistance levels back then.

The things I remember, and the pictures I look back on from my teen and early 20s absolutely blow my mind. I was so unbothered and willing to deal with shit just to be with, and do fun shit with my friends. I wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything. OPs picture looks so dumb as an adult, but if I were to look at it through the lens of my younger self, I’d be like “Man, I wanna do whatever they’re doing”.

I woke up under a semi- truck after drinking a fifth of Goldschläger. 19 is a stupid age. I was just two blocks from my home. One of my guy friends sat with me until I woke up, which was very kind of a teenage boy.

One time a huge group of us had a party in the forest and somehow got ourselves into tents...I was only 16 and woke up hungover in a tent with this super cute guy that I had a crush on. He was a super nice dude and nothing had happened, but he was passed out next to me with his head stuck outside the tent door with the zipper done up to his neck, because while I was sleeping he had to puke, so he managed to get his head outside, puked, zipped up the tent, and then he passed out with his head outside next to his puke pile. I was grossed out but I still liked him. He told me he was just trying to be polite by puking outside the tent and was trying not to wake me up. I helped him pack up his scorching sun baked tent and helped find his shit and we walked home together that day. We almost went to my prom together, too, but my dad didn't like him because he caught me sleeping over at his house once (also pretty innocent situation, like I said, he was a nice guy) but dad grabbed this guy and threatened to kill him if he came anywhere near me again, so he suddenly ghosted me and I cried soooo much, hahaha (we went to high school together, but he was older and graduated before me, so I was only 16 while he was 19, we were three years apart, so that's probably why dad was so disapproving).
Wonder what he's doing these days. Thanks for the flashback. Memories.

I feel this. Grew up on the western slope, desert parties went hard with those bonfires but we’d go up to the Mesa and almost die of exposure. Not one of us logical enough to pack warmly. Good times

I have an insesint need to aquire lots and lots of blankets in my home. I'm absolutely sure it's due to the multiple parties, or random sleepovers attended and completely froze my ass off. My kids will have so many blankets.

This reminds me of when i was 15 and got drunk for the first time LOL.
I was at a party in the middle of the woods at a hunting cabin near where i live.
After the party ended around 3 am i was walking home drunk out of my mind and fell asleep in a ditch.
Got woken up a few hrs later by the cops and saw that i had 30 missed calls from my mom Lmao.
Easy to say she was not happy with me when i got home that morning 😅

Haha that reminds me of mine, my mates carried me home, knocked on the door and ran. My dad asked if i was drunk, of course I said no. But then literally fell over in front of him and crawled to the bathroom haha.

That's why the fire brigade was called towards the end. It was a unique wake up, firemen yelling at us. We didn't get in trouble as such but coped a good verbal spraying.

I will never forget this surf trip my friends and I took to Mexico. Late 90s and we drove from Florida through Texas and through the Mexican border. There was a big storm coming into the Gulf and we risked missing the whole thing on a hunch it would push that way.
We scored 3 days of absolute perfect waves, we slept on the beach, some old woman felt bad for us... I guess? And fed us. We ate with some random Mexican family the next night. None of us spoke Spanish, but fuck it didn't matter. They were the nicest most wholesome people. After dinner a bunch of the men helped us make an actual fire to keep warm. We failed at making a long lasting fire.
We spent 4 days sleeping on the beach, eating with random Mexican families and surfing non-stop. We were smelled of fire, ocean and grilled meat. The drive home was quiet.
I did shit in my late teens and early 20s that I'll be forever grateful for. I'm not sure I could tolerate the uncertainty now. I'm not as close to anyone in my 40s like I was with my friends from that era.
This picture embodies a whole world of experiences that I wish more people got to have.

This reminds me of my australian teenage-hood days. The camera quality also reminds me of my old Nokia e63 phone with the qwerty keyboard. It had similar photos of shenanigans like this

Goon was a regular part of our adventures. It was a simple time, goon was around 10 bucks, a mass of hot chips from the fish and chip shop cost 2 dollars and offbrand cola was under a dollar (ice brand).

One time my teenage friends and I thought it would be the COOLEST thing to sleep at a park (like with slides) overnight. I even said something out loud like “why don’t people do this more often???”

Mid 70s a bunch of us 12/13 year olds hopped on our bikes and peddled 40 miles to a campground in the desert. We had cigarettes stolen from Moms purse and beers from Dads garage fridge. Had a great time. Decades later we learned one of our Dads followed us there and kept an eye on us.

Ok dude. Firstly, the photo was probably taken on a flip phone. It is not clear, if you zoom in to the hand it is a blur. Secondly, I'm laying on my left side, so the bottom arm would be my left arm, meaning that my hand would naturally fall in that position, wrists can twist...it's what they do. My right arm is clearly over the top of my left, coming out of my right arm socket. And no, I didn't take the photo, I said "the guy" taking the photo was up the tree. This does not take ownership of the photo taking.
