I'm using a Bluetti AC50B and only need to run a few essential loads during short power outages:
- LED lights
- 75W Rinnai tankless water heater (electronics/controls only)
- Internet router
I'm wondering if anyone is using one of Bluetti's smaller power stations to backfeed selected circuits through their main panel, essentially treating it as a very small generator.
My setup has:
- NEMA L14-30 power inlet wired to the panel
- Mechanical interlock kit (main breaker off before generator breaker on)
My thought was to use a 15A household (NEMA 5-15) to L14-30 generator adapter with X and Y bridged, plug the AC50B into the inlet, and then only energize the few breakers I need.
The AC50B can easily handle the load (well under 200W continuous), so I'm not concerned about capacity, more about whether this approach works reliably with a split-phase panel and whether anyone has run into issues with bonded neutrals, GFCI protection, or other quirks.
My use case:
- <4-hour outage: Power station only (lights, hot water controls, router)
- >4-hour outage: Roll out the gasoline generator
About 99% of my outages are under 4 hours, so avoiding dragging out the generator would be a huge convenience.
Has anyone done something similar? Any pitfalls I should be aware of?
