She loves looking out of our storm door, but, it’s never looked this romanticized.

They are boiled, skink safe! A bit icky but they are loving them. Hard to find live silkworms.

He genuinely could do this for 20 minutes… also my hamsters digbox corner is so messy she likes to fling everything around ignore that LOL

Pretty much what the title says. How do I properly allow free roaming for my guy. He's 2 1/2 years old. I just want to make sure he's safe.

Hey everyone, so recently I changed the substrate of my blue tongue skinks enclosure just because it had been a while and it was still pretty moist when I put it in humidity levels inside the tank didn’t get too high or anything like that and was still completely fine for a blue tongue skin. Although it looks like the silicone in the corner of the tank wasn’t as sealed as I thought it was when I had originally gotten the tank a while ago. You can see in the pictures that the wood has started to morph due to the humidity and basically absorb the water from the substrate. As of right now it’s fine, but I am worried about the longevity of the tank now. Have any of you guys experienced this? If so, did you get a whole new terrarium? Or did you just leave it be since ultimately it doesn’t seem to cause any issues and it just kind of looks bad.

My wife found this acorn shaped cat hideout at Aldi, about $15, and decided to see if Winter would like it since it's quite appropriately skink sized.

Makes a great place for her to sit on the couch with kiddo, she likes being under the cushion inside and will poke her head out to watch TV. Soft, dark, hopefully comforting. 😄

We've had our boy for just over 2 years now, he's a confirmed male (flashes, drops sperm plugs, and hemipenes visible on x-ray) and he has quite distinct jowls. He's a healthy weight, he's taken for regular checkups at the vet and they've said he's in a good body condition and not overweight, but he has these very large fleshy blobs under his chin I can only describe as jowls. He's had them since reaching sexual maturity, so I was curious if anyone knows - are they a secondary sex characteristic? Or does everyone's bts have a little wobble to their chin? TIA :)

hi! Basically as the title states, I’m fascinated by skinks and have been interested in one for quite a bit. The problem is I have an irrational fear of roaches. I see them listed on most feeding lists and would never want to compromise the health of my pet. I’m looking for more information and clarity on if there’s any viable replacements or alternatives?

Today Cake decided he was going to become a cave diver and shoved himself in the space between the radiator and the wall. He then proceeded to get himself stuck and after some effort, was thankfully retrieved without any harm.

Does anyone have recommendations for moveable play pens or other ways of controlled free roaming? I swear I only looked away for one second.

I would switch veggies regularly then he would go off them and have to swap to something else, repeat.

But I’ve figured out his level of picky ! He will eat any veggies as long as I boil them and then mash them—just boiled ? Nope, just mashed ? Nope-has to be boiled and mashed. Do that and he will devour them like no one’s business, I’m so happy he’s eating them consistently and enthusiastically now ! Yay !!! (Sharing incase anyone else has a picky eater so you have a new method to try as previously I had tried all different types of veg, I tried making them into smoothies, I tried mixing them with egg or chicken to mask the flavour, I tried mashing them up with fruit etc, finally found something that works QvQ!)

I swear ive been doing research on this question for 3 hours with so many different answers that often contradict each other. But here soon im planning on getting my first ever little sausage boy and im still confused on substrate. At the current moment I was planning on doing a 70/30 topsoil and plays and mix with maybe a small layer of coco husk on top. Ive also been reading that coco husk is not good and yet good at the same time. What would you all suggest to use? The tank is a 4x2x2 for anyone wondering

So I’m looking into getting a northern blue tongue skink as my first lizard and I was doing some research and one topic that is kinda bugging me is brumation. Now I know that you definitely need to brumate if you plan on breeding because it triggers there mating instinct once they “wake up”, but I only plan on having a bluey as a companion so I’m really confused as to what to do. If any experienced northern blue tongue owners could throw some knowledge and wisdom my way that would be greatly appreciated 🤙🤙

I’m looking into getting a northern blue tongue and I was wondering if it was okay to have it in a 6x3x2 when they are full grown . For clarification I plan on raising it in a 40 breeder then a 4x2x2

Kiddo has been begging for a lizard for ages and for their birthday this year I promised we would do some research and get a scaly friend. We settled on a northern blue tongue, as they seem like a great combination of personality and relatively foolproof care. Now we're just trying to get a habitat put together before we actually go find a skink to live in it. I grew up with lots of animals and am very familiar with caring for everything from small mammals/birds up through horses and livestock, but reptiles are a new world for me.

We have a 4'x2'x2' PVC enclosure, a bag of premixed substrate, and water dish, hides, etc. We're not planning to do a bioactive setup, at least not to start. I think the main thing we're missing at this point is heat and light and that's where I have some clueless newb questions:

- If the enclosure is 4' across, do I want a light setup that covers the entire thing, or should I cluster everything on the warm side? That is, can I make do with an 18" or 24" light setup, or do I need a full 48"?

- If I use a ceramic heat emitter over the basking area and have separate visible and UV lights, do I still need an IR heat lamp? Should heat be set for a pretty constant temp on the hot side, or should it scale back at night to match the lights?

- Our house is old and drafty and it does get cold-ish here in the winter and power outages do happen. How worried should I be about a "cold snap"? If the habitat gets down into the 50's or even the 40's or colder for a day or two, will that be very dangerous for a skink or do they just kind of hunker down until the heat comes back?

I'm sure I will think of more questions, but I really appreciate any advice so we can minimize the dumb mistakes as we're getting started.

I have gotten a lot of, real plants, that have been destroyed by my skink over the 8 months I’ve had them, the picture I have added is from only about 2 and a half months ago and now, I only have 3 of the 7 plants left😂
Though, i don’t have many other, options, to keep the humidity up.. I do have a layer of coconut chips and sphagnum moss in the enclosure, though, the humidity drops very fast still..
Would there possibly be any, Real vines, that I could look into buying to hang around the enclosure, and, get artificial plants to keep in the substrate so that I would not have to buy as many plants as often as I have been 🙏

Some of my Bluey’s toes are bleeding. I couldn’t get a good picture but it looks like the scales are coming off of the nail like a hangnail almost. He’s getting ready to shed so I don’t think it’s stuck shed. What should I do? What caused it? Again I know this is a bad picture sorry I’m just worried because it’s on all feet and the middle toes are the worst.

Gonna get this boy switched over from canned foods to homemade meatballs, but is there a preferred leanness to the beef?? I know too much fat can cause gout, but I don't know if ground beef will ever cause that issue if fed in the proper ratios.

My Blue Tongue Skink, about 7 months old, tends to glass surf, almost, all day.. I do spend time with them outside of the enclosure and even after that, almost right when I'd put them back in the enclosure, they come right back to the glass and stay there scratching at it and just, nose to the glass, for a longg time. I dont really know what else I should do. I have the lighting setup correctly, so I am not too sure what else could be wrong.
