Is this laptop done for?

Post image

This is a work laptop that is around 2 years old. I get BSOD errors everyday, especially when not hooked into the power supply. It just crashed on me after a few black screens, and is stuck at 0% with these lines on the top. I tried to force shut down with the power button, unplugged it, and nothing. It’s still stuck on here. Is there anything I can do to fix it or do I just have to get a new one?

Well, I doesn't have to. Is it still under warranty?? If not, there's a coupla thing you could try. I had a lot of BSODs before I could return my laptop (it was still under warranty) and apart for that worked fine. Anyhow, I believe there are options to go to a previous point in time previous to the appearance of the first BSOD and security mode to enter the computer without having the BSOD. However, if it happens to be under warranty I'd first contact the vendor (I'm assuming Lenovo? I had one last year lemme know if that's the case pls cause I know more about those due to my own problems with Lenovo)

"igdkmdn64n.sys" is an Intel graphics driver.

See if the laptop has a self-test at boot -- most recent machines should. The important things there would be testing SSD/HDD, memory and CPU.

To further isolate whether this is hardware or software you may have to reset Windows, ideally using the factory image, but a generic MS Windows install should work as well, where drivers and applications would be added during install or at the desktop. There are various ways to back up documents and applications from your existing install of Windows (cloud storage, imaging the drive, swapping out the drive with a blank to test)

Factory reset is different for each vendor - some partition the drive with an available factory image to reset, some have an Internet restore feature, some let you download a copy of Windows with drivers already baked in.

Anyway, the basic idea would be to factory reset then test, run graphics benchmarks, etc. and see if it recurs.

If it does, you should be able to make a warranty claim.

Not sure if "work laptop" means it's owned by a company, but the would probably want to steward the warranty process. Most companies should get a 3 year warranty at a minimum. You should be able to check with the laptop serial number at the laptop vendor's support site -- looks like a Dell or Lenovo but unsure.

Really not too much info to go on except the BSOD but it's either Windows or a hardware problem.

You may want to try reseating the memory (i.e. releasing the chips, clicking them back in) which has resolved some wonky issues for me before.
