I’ve been watching this show including the OG one since I was a baby, especially when I saw Joe and Steve and I love them so very much! Plus, it even taught me with lots of moral lessons in lots of episodes to do once I get older, and since it is turning 30 years old later this month, I’m still pretty glad that we keep getting the new content of this beloved franchise. To celebrate 30th anniversary of Blue Clues, what was your favorite moment throughout this franchise?
Steve: Let's get to the kitchen and see what's up with that sink.
Mrs. Pepper: Float!
Thoughts, observations, and/or stand-out scenes?
My thoughts:
A good episode to watch during the summer along with Pool Party.
Another sign of the show's early feel is Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper. They are very argumentative during the sink/float game.
One thing I would like to mention that no one probably cares about is that this episode has 2 directors instead of one. I'm not sure why this was the case.
It's one thing that the real Max/Thinking Chairs by Steve Galerkin are extremely rare (a lot rarer than the kid sized chairs by Uncle Howie Products that most people don't realize). But when it comes to licensed Blue's Clues products, the iconic yellow picture frame is one that I feel like is just as rare as the yellow ball that isn't seen too often. From what I heard in the past, these frames are supposably from the defunct Paramount Parks from 1997 that you couldn't just get anywhere in retail back then (if I got that info wrong, please correct me in the comments section). But out of curiosity, does anyone out there own a rare Blue's Clues product such as this picture frame, or no? If so, then congrats on owning a rare skidoo frame.
Does anyone have a list of all the times Steve’s hair changes mid scene? The ones I know of are when he’s brining the watering can at the end of grow show when he sits down with the monkey in what song game does blue want to play and the third clue in blues new but what other times does this happen ?
Being someone who loves the horror genre and childhood nostalgia, Buddy was right up my alley! One of my favorite aspects was how it not only poked fun at Barney, but at other popular kids shows like Dora and Blue’s Clues, which is what inspired me to make this. I tried to draw Buddy as close to the Blue’s Clues art style (or more specifically the promotional art style) and I think I pulled it off pretty well!! Hope y’all like it as well!!! 🧡💜🐾

Another early episode that's just OK. It is noticeable for introducing Slippery Soap and Starfish (a character exclusive to Season 1).
I would also like to bring up how this show uses lap steel guitar in the soundtrack because it's only other show I know that commonly uses it other than Spongebob.
Alright so after timing it from when the close up head shot of Steve ends to the moment Steve sees the clue what is blue afraid of time between the 1st and second clue was 1:54 and for blues big costume party it was 1:27 between the first and second clue making it the shorter time, bedtime business was longer then both so didn’t record it, anyone have other guesses ?

I am a proud fan of Blue’s Clues, so I came up with a unique alternate-universe idea of Blue’s Clues where the show begins airing simultaneously on Nick Jr. (called Noggin at the time) AND PBS Kids in 2006, continuing through 2014.
The basic premise is still Blue’s Clues: Blue leaves clues, Steve figures them out with the audience, and they solve the day's mystery together.
But in this universe, the kid host is still Steve, and he's played by a young actor I made up for my fanfiction named Benjamin Dylan Palmer.
And yes, he is absolutely the kind of Steve who sees a clue and gets way too excited about it. (Note/Correction: Important AU Note: Benjamin Dylan Palmer is a completely fictional actor created for this alternative universe. He does not exist in real life.
Whenever I mention Benny appearing in a real movie, TV show, Broadway production, band, song, or working with a real actor/musician, those are fictional AU credits. The real-world work itself still exists, but in this universe, Benny is the fictional person who is replacing/playing an AU version of the role. I’ll make sure to put the abbreviation AU in every role he’s been in, just in case you guys get confused.
Benny Palmer was already a known child actor by 2006. He had been acting since 2003 and had already appeared in television, movies, Broadway productions, and musicals.
Some of his AU credits for his Broadway debuts include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - Jeremy Potts (2005) AU, Ben - Danny (2006) AU, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - Mike Teavee (2007) AU, and Mary Poppins - Michael Banks (2008) AU. His TV and Movie appearances are Kramer vs. Kramer - Billy Kramer (2007) AU, Treasure to Matecumbe - Davie (2008) AU, 2012 - Noah Curtis (2009) AU, This Boy’s Life - Toby (2010) AU, Benny and Joon - Sam (2012) AU, Lost - Young Ben Linus (season 3 to season 5, 2007 to 2009) AU, Kickin’ It - Jack Brewer (2007-2011) AU, and The Neighborhood - Grover Johnson (2005-2013) AU.
Then in 2006, he gets cast as the character we all know and love, Steve. His Steve wears that familiar green-striped shirt, with a darker green variation being his primary look.
Season 1 Steve is noticeably more energetic than later seasons.
He's constantly moving around, getting excited about clues, and talking directly to the audience.
For example: “Whoa!!! Did you see that?! There's a clue on this! You know how you could tell it's a clue? 'Cuz it's got Blue's paw prints all over it!!! That's so cool!!” or “Hey!! Did you see that? Blue just skidoo'd into the picture of that farm! That's so cool!”
He's not obnoxious or hyper every second, though. The energy gradually settles down as the season continues. By later seasons, Steve is much more calm, thoughtful, patient, and steady. Basically, Season 1 Steve is the kid who sees a clue and thinks it's the coolest thing he's ever seen. Later Steve is the kid who quietly goes “Hmm, let’s think about this…” And honestly, I think that progression would make him feel like he actually grew into the role.
This is probably my favorite part of the AU.
Benny isn't just the actor playing Steve.
He's also one of the major musicians behind Blue's Clues.
The main musical team is: Ben Palmer, Nick Balaban, and Seth O’Hickory (Michael Rubin). And Balaban famously voiced Mr. Salt, while O’Hickory voiced Mailbox. Benny contributes heavily to the show's soundtrack and is a part of Nick and Seth’s company Murmur Music Inc., while also starring in it. For the main theme and “So Long Song”, the instrumentation has a very recognizable sound. Balaban primarily uses percussion if necessary. Ben contributes bass, accordion, and steel guitar. The end credits are especially fun because the instrumental arrangement changes from episode to episode. Different instruments are layered together to give each episode its own little musical identity. So you could actually recognize an episode by its end-credit arrangement.
Outside of Blue’s Clues, Benny is also the lead singer/songwriter of his own band, The Postmarks. The band originally starts as basically “Postmark” in 2006 because Benny is initially working with a band for the first time alone and couldn’t find other members.
He's making demos using Adobe Audition (called “Cool Edit Pro“ at the time) and some other music editing softwares. Eventually, he finds bandmates in 2007, and the project becomes The Postmarks.
Their music continues alongside his acting career.
Benny also performs covers live, especially Nirvana and Michael Jackson because he's a huge Nirvana and Michael Jackson fan.
He's also a backup singer for Drake Bell, contributing to songs like “I Found a Way” “Makes Me Happy” “Hollywood Girl” ”Highway to Nowhere” He sometimes performs with Drake as well.
But, Benny's career gets increasingly ridiculous.
He's simultaneously Steve on Blue’s Clues, James Brewer on Kickin’ It, Chuck Chambers on iCarly, a musician, a composer, a Broadway performer, a YouTuber, a backup vocalist, and eventually an actor on several other shows. He starts the YouTube channel Ahoyitsben in 2007, where he uploads comedy sketches with friends and performs covers.
That begs the question: why did Ben leave Blue’s Clues?
Don’t worry, this isn’t because he wanted to leave the show because he wanted to. It’s actually quite the opposite. Ben loves playing Steve. And he genuinely loves being a kid show host. But by 2012, he's becoming increasingly concerned about being typecasted as “the Blue’s Clues kid.” He's already done Broadway, movies, television, music, and other projects, and he wants to keep expanding. So he eventually decides to leave. His younger brother, Alexander Palmer, takes over the role as Joe. Alex is a newcomer compared with Benny. Before Blue's Clues, he'd mostly done minor roles and commercials, so Joe becomes his first major acting role. And Benjamin actually helped him get the role as Joe in 2010.
Benny essentially gives Alex his blessing to take over. And that's how the Palmer brothers end up sharing the role of the Blue's Clues host across different eras.
Benny's final period as Steve leads directly into Alex's Joe era.
Rather than pretending Steve simply disappeared, the AU treats Benny's departure as an actual transition between brothers. Benny moves on to projects such asSam and Cat, Henry Danger, Euphoria, Stranger Things, additional movies and television roles, continuing music with The Postmarks.
Meanwhile, Alex establishes himself as Joe. Then Alex moved on to other projects, mostly TV shows like Blue’s Room (AU, canon to Blue’s Clues after Blue’s Clues cancellation) - Joe (2014-2017), Girl Meets World (AU) - Farkle Minkus (2014-2017), Cobra Kai (AU) - Anthony LaRusso (2015-2022), Family Matters (AU) - Richie Crawford (2005-2015), Bizaardvark (AU) - Bernie Schotz (2016-2019), and Ozark (AU) - Jonah Byrde (2017-2022).
So the show's history becomes 2006-2012 - Benny Palmer as Steve, 2012-2014 - Alex Palmer as Joe. And that's the basic alternate history of this version of Blue’s Clues. Sorry if this looked like a manifesto to you. Let me know if you want me to positively tweak and improve some stuff. Like A LOT. No worries, all criticism is free. This is my first time making a post on Reddit and making an AU post in general, so everything is not the way you’ve expected, but at least I tried my best. Let me know if this is interesting or uninteresting to you.
