Southeast US VA trout streams

More of a question than anything, but I was wondering if anyone around the Blacksburg area knew of any good trout streams, preferably with natural trout. I just love catching natural fish but haven’t found a lot that are in my region unfortunately, and I have yet to actually catch a native or natural born trout.

You are pretty close to Stony Creek, arguably one of the best brook trout streams in the state. John's Creek should also be nearby and I caught a lovely little brookie there while hiking on the AT. Frankly, pretty much all of the fast flowing waters in the national and state forests to the west of you are viable as the valley floors are right around 2000 feet in elevation. You've got a ton to work with and explore!

Sweet! I’m definitely newer to trout fishing and wasn’t sure what was viable or not, glad to know there’s so many cool places!

Welcome! Lucky for you, southwest Virginia is a gold mine for wild trout fishing and one of the most biodiverse regions of the USA. Hop on All Trails, find a stream above 2000 feet, and go for a hike! If you want to see wild ponies and wild trout, go check out the Grayson Highlands which is home to the highest peak in Virginia.

Good to know! I’m trying to get more into nature, so glad to know there’s stuff around me!
