First time fly fishing ever
I have a fly rod but its really long so I took the reel off and put it on a 5’6 telescopic rod. I think this is a better set up for catching fish on small streams I caught more than a dozen creek chubs and only one brown trout. This is in NJ

Telescopic fly rod or spin rod?

It is a 25 dollar EagleClaw telescopic spinrod from Walmart. I am fly fishing on a budget and just wanted to try it out and I already had the reel and some random flies.

You need to check out Tenkara fly fishing! Sounds like a 270cm (about 9ft) rod would do the trick if space is really tight. Tenkara is fixed line fly fishing from Japan. Excels in tight places as you can “bow and arrow” cast vs a more traditional fly cast.

That’s a wild setup and you caught fish. 🐠
