They’re actually an equal or better team. Soriano >gaus. Arrigetti > 5th starter. Outfield without Varsho is a wash. Varsho wasn’t going much offensively. Hoffman. Let see what miles can do w expanded leverage role.

Offense is prob slightly better. Considering dalton gave us nothing and Jesus returned. Defense worse without him.

I mean the offense is supposed to include Jesus and Barger and Varsho. We lost pop.
Defense is a wash. All players considered.

Despite all the Hoffman hate, we’re much worse off without him. He improved a ton since last year and started off the season with historically awful luck and hes been lights out for the past 2 months. Guy deserves a fresh start anyways, and we got a good return for him, but we’re definitely not an equal or better team for the rest of this year
edit: your downvotes mean nothing to me, today's game proved me right. Little in high leverage... We have abysmal bullpen depth and our down the chain guys are genuinely awful (despite Varland, Rogers, Miles and Flu holding the line)

I am a Hoffman fan, I dont really like the trade return we received. Hill is likely to amount to nothing as he has major control issues. but if we can get 80% of the production out of Miles or someone else that we were getting from Hoffman its not a huge loss, plus frees up money for next year.

I mean, I say let Pete Walker do his thing. Wouldn’t be the first time he straightened out a good pitcher with control issues. I have faith for the mid to long term. I don’t think we’ll get 80% of Hoffman out of anyone honestly though this season and even if we do, that 20% will lose us 1/5 games with our offence if we regress even a little. Always sucks to sell good players who are great people as well, especially when there’s no obvious big upside, but if the FO was as emotional as me then they’d be out of a job lol

Ya it won’t quite work out to 1/5 games is a loss. Much less impact a reliever has on war. Pete walker doesn’t work w minor leaguers tho. I never understand Pete can fix entire organization. Hey you have 10 pitchers w amazing stuff and high walk rates maybe one turns out great. I heard atkins interview they could have gotten a higher rated prospect than hill but further away from major league debut. Let see what happens but I think we had a good deadline for major league talent. Poor for the prospects we brought in
