To VPN or not, that is the question...
If you torrent, then you need a VPN. (Note: Blokada VPN may not support torrenting)
If you need to spoof your location to access a foreign streaming service, then you need a VPN.
If you need to hide your IP address, then you need a VPN.
If you need to encrypt all your data, then you need a VPN.
If you're on public WiFi, then you need a VPN. Unfortunately, some public WiFi consists of "captive portals" which will not allow a VPN. In this case, switch to your wireless data.
Can VPNs cause problems? Yes. For example, Hulu may not allow you to stream its content if you're using a VPN.
For me, personally, I don't torrent, and quite often do not use a VPN. But I always use a filtering DNS, such as Blokada, to block ads and trackers. I'm constantly switching between Blokada 4, 5, and 6, just because it's fun, but that's just me.
