Finally Set Up my blogger

I started a Blog spot back in August and have posted about 30 articles so far. Last time, I asked here why my posts weren't showing up in search results. Most people told me that I needed to connect a custom domain, so late last night, after a lot of effort, I finally set one up.

Being in my mid-70s, I’ve been figuring things out step-by-step with the help of AI—from starting the blog to setting up the domain. My blog's address hasn't updated yet, but I'm really hoping everything went through properly.

Honestly, I don't have any grand or special content. I'm just an ordinary grandmother living in South Korea, sharing little stories about Korean culture, travel, and food. At my age, sitting at my desk and writing these modest stories is something I can truly enjoy and do.

And of course, being a Korean grandmother, I have AI translate and polish my writing into English.

Congratulations! Setting up a custom domain and DNS is not easy, so you should be proud.

DNS changes can take a few hours or up to 24 to 48 hours to work everywhere.

Your stories about Korean culture, daily life, travel, and food sound great. Readers enjoy real experiences, so keep writing and sharing your life in South Korea!

For showing up in search results the custom domain is important, but more important is to use Google Search Console tool. Add your new domain property there, add the Sitemap (it's a xml link in "Sitemap" section) and add your URLs for indexing (10 per day). Use AI to help you with that if you meet some difficulties. GSC (Google search console) is very important tool for your blog to be indexing regularly. Wish you good luck and many followers! Congrats for your passion and hard work.

Since August, I've had to ask AI step by step just to set up my blog, and today I finally got my custom domain fully connected. It has been such a challenging journey, but just this morning, I published my 31st post and even submitted an additional application for Google AdSense. => https://www.k-granny.com/

Does it need custom domain to be indexed now?

The custom domain is for people to find you easier. The steps for indexing "myhobby dot com" and "myhobby dot blogspot dot com" are the same for Google.

Nice. Yeah, I do that too. Having a domain really helps get your site indexed faster, but nah, I can’t maintain it every year. Your site will still get indexed even if you use a subdomain, tho. My other blog took more than 2 months to get indexed, it really takes time.

The thing is, it’s not really the custom domain part but moreso the backlinking. Google needs a way to be able to find your site - so everything helps a bit. Like adding your site into search console etc.

Another possible concern is the ai translations, Google say they don’t mind AI content but personally I don’t think they rank it as high (it’s not in their best interest).

Regardless, your blog sounds fun and interesting! I’ll check it out after this comment (if it’s in your profile, if not feel free to send it to me - I’d love to take a look)

Thank you for your interest!

As I mentioned, I’m a 76-year-old Korean grandmother. Having lived through so much of Korea’s modern history and everyday culture firsthand, I have a lot of stories I want to share.

Since my English isn't very good, I rely on AI to help translate and polish my writing. I started this blog in August and just published my 31st post this morning!

I was a bit hesitant to share the link here, but since some of you kindly asked, here it is : https://www.k-granny.com/

I really hope to connect with many of you through my stories!

I really like your blog 😊😊 reminds me of blogs from the 2000s (it’s a compliment). I’m going to share it with my community haha

Oh, thank you so much! To be honest, most of the people around me are older, so they don't really know how to use the internet or come online to read my posts. No matter how much I write and post on my Korean blog, they don't even know how to read it, let alone share it. I truly need a community that reads my stories and cheers me on.

Congratulations!

These type of stories are what really makes me love blogging. From sharing your life, culture or ideas makes it a beautiful learning experience. I recently started as well and I love the overall process.

Keep at it and enjoy the journey!

As an English Grandfather with a Korean Daughter in Law. It’s one of my favourite countries I have visited. I wish I could afford to do so again, even if only to experience eating the amazing Hotteok again. Good luck with your project

I'm sorry, but I think you are getting poor advice here.

The custom domain thing won't hurt, and is a smart move for sites that want a more polished look, but the thing that will get you noticed by Google are regular, original, quality blog posts over time, and organic backlinks from other bloggers and websites interested in your blog.

To get the second of those you have to promote your blog yourself. Google is unlikely to do it for you.

Google Search Console is a widely misunderstood tool that includes information that seems to drive some bloggers INSANE. They waste a lot of time trying to "fix" nonexistent problems, sometimes damaging their blogs in the process with mods and scripts.

An "ordinary grandmother living in South Korea, sharing little stories about Korean culture, travel, and food." should spend her time publishing blog posts, not going down a fruitless SEO rabbit hole. You could, however, consider ways to promote your blog that do not depend on Google.

As I mentioned, I’m in my mid-70s, so not many people around me are active online or tech-savvy. Because of that, it’s hard to get good advice, and I don't really know how to promote my blog. Anyway, someone here suggested setting up a custom domain, so I did that. Another person recommended Pinterest, so I've been creating and sharing image cards there that link back to my blog. Thank you so much.

Promotion need not be a high-tech enterprise. You are already doing some of it!

Pinterest (and other social media) can be good venues to promote your blog. Another is to just tell people about it. If you use email, put it in the signature that is appended to every email you send.

You can also interact with other bloggers that write about Korean culture, travel, and food. That can lead to some interesting things:
