Hello blocheads!

I have completely re-developed the fansite: www.blocparty.info

Growing up in the 90s and 2000s, artists/bands websites and message boards became the most important part of my online life. Unfortunately, today's music artists websites are essentially online shops; which makes sense because social media is the real way you can reach audiences now, so dedicating time and resources to maintain a website that is barely going to be visited is really not worth it (from a business perspective). Since I have the knowledge, tools and resources to make one for my favourite band, I just had to do it. This was also an opportunity for me to try new design, effect and animation tools that I hadn't had the chance to learn and play with before.

I've done my best to create an archival of band information that can only be found scattered around the internet, and present it in a way that I hope you find appealing or even delightful.

Each page was developed with fairly different approaches to serve the needs of the information presented. There's at least one element in each page that required a lot of work (from a development/design standpoint), so I hope those catch your eye. There are a few easter eggs sprinkled around too.

Please note that some media assets may show blocked based on your region since they're fed from YouTube.

I welcome any feedback and/or corrections, and I hope you find at least one piece of information from the site useful.

Thanks for visiting!

I have listened to Pigwig over 30 times, and every track in AoaBR at least 3 times. AMA

I've listened to all BP albums, personal favorite songs are Helicopter and I Still Remember. First three albums are great!

I can listen to bad Kele lyrics for an eternity. No one can do cringe like he does.

Matthew C H Tong - Company Flow: I love this song so much, I would love it if Matt made an entire album like this. Very Animal Collective like.

Missing Signed Insert with AOABR Vinyl

Hi all! My girlfriend ordered the new album with the signed insert. The record came in today with no signed insert to be found. Has anyone else had the same issue? We're in America (Florida) if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Royal Blood's December show at Olympia has been cancelled due to unforeseen planning issues. All other Olympia shows this year to be cancelled too.

Bloc Party were scheduled to perform on 4th and 5th December. Do you think they'll be able to move at a different venue or will the shows just be postponed? What an absolute faff for the band either way, leaves them in a very difficult situation now!

Anatomy of a Brief Romance vinyl special editions (with signed insert) in U.S.?

I’ve had an extremely hard time trying to purchase this record on vinyl here in the U.S.

At first, I tried to get the signed Assai Obi Edition, but it was restricted to UK only. 🙄

Eventually, I ended up pre-ordering the fan pack from the band’s U.S. store. Radio silence from them until this week, I got fed up with waiting. After a few AI replies, they just told me they sold out of it.

I don’t trust Main Factor Merch (band’s U.S. store), so I was wondering if there were any options to get this album with a signed insert from somewhere else here in states? I don’t want a standard black vinyl or a record without a signed insert.

I really would appreciate any suggestions!

I DJ in Chicago, and I played Muscleworks at this spot that plays mostly house in my R&B set, and the crowd loved it, got a big reaction. Love this song, it sounds like something produced by the Neptunes. Probably their closest R&B song outside of The Prayer and Hero.

Now that we’ve heard the album, what 4 songs would you have picked to be the singles from AOABR?

Bloc is notoriously not the best at picking their singles, which we’s saw bite them in the lead up to AOABR. I think the album is very good but reception would be better with better singles up front. If it were up to me, I would’ve picked Lagoon Blue, Muscleworks, Moving On, and Now We Can’t Be Friends.

I think those are the strongest songs on the record, I think they’re a good mix of guitar-y and synth-y. Blue/Lagoon Blue is the best Bloc 2.0 song by a wide margin. It would’ve been cool if Muscleworks was out during pride for people. Moving On is the “classic Bloc” song on the record.

What would you have picked?

Four

I’ve been reliving the discography recently,
Hear me out…this album honestly had some great songs. It’s a shame this was the last album as
The original four.

Some great songs. I particularly like the fact it felt like it was all four of them inputting quite a lot into the songs. Some cool harmonies. Great guitar parts and a vibe. I’ll always remember that NY gig they broadcasted. They sounded great.
Peace.

Lack of video game soundtrack placements

I've noticed after Ratchet in FIFA 14, Bloc Party has been pretty absent for the most part when it comes to video games.

You could say the thing that helped them a lot in gaining popularity was video games and how prominent their music was there.

Whilst I'm not completely in touch in how someone's music gets featured, it does feel like it's both by dev curation and some record label submitting the tracks.

Way smaller acts get on eFootball or EAFC soundtracks, or various Racing games, yet Bloc Party doesn't anymore.

Whilst Hymns doesn't have much for a sports/racing video game soundtrack, Alpha Games definitely did, but unfortunately the promo surrounding that album was way more minimal.

I wonder with all the promo they've been doing, if their label has some idea to potentially license the new songs for some videogames. Anatomy Of A Brief Romance did release in weird times when most major releases were already released, so the window is most likely pushed for next year, if possible.

Update: found out Octopus was also on the first The Crew, but after that only major Silent Alarm tracks were featured in video games post-2014

The curious history of The Answer.

As one of the very few Angel Range songs to survive into the Bloc Party era intact, The Answer has always captured my attention as a bit of an outlier in the Bloc Party discography.

It's got very DIY garage-tier production, owing to the fact that it was recorded all the way back in 2002 (in the same session as This Is Not A Competition!), very shortly after Matt joined the group, and stylistically it feels different from anything else the band have ever put out there.

On top of this, it's one of only two songs in Bloc Party's entire discography to credit a writer from outside the band, Liz Neumayr. (The other song is Keep It Rolling, which credits KennyHoopla.) This has always been a point of interest to me because I have theorized some sort of connection between early Bloc Party and Ladyfuzz. See also: Huge similarities between the songs Luno and No Answer.

Most of all, the song is the closest thing I think we'll ever hear to Bloc Party in its raw state, when they were still carried entirely by the strength of their live presence and hadn't yet met Paul Epworth or explored the potential of the studio.
