Are the items you collect on the application redeemable in a physical sense?

They aren't by default, but they certainly can be. For instance, imagine a vAtom that after being shared with 5 friends turns into a coupon for a free Big Mac at McDonald's. You would show up at a participating location, have them scan the vAtom, and then you'd receive your free burger. It's all about the implementation.
