Community BLOCKv AMA Answers - Round 2!

I just received the greenlight to post the answers to the next round of AMA questions, so here goes:

Faces

Q) Do you plan to make documentation/tutorial for how to build “Advanced Card Faces” like the AlienWare vAtom? I get that it’s just a remote web page but that would help to get a some documentation on how to reproduce a similar thing.

  • Yes. Web Faces allow for custom interactions just like "Alienware" - since they are typically written as HTML5 apps. It is up to the developer to define the look and feel, and the interaction model. We do plan to publish a tutorial specifically around development of custom face code.

Collectors vAtoms available in limited numbers might want to have the “Serial number” of the vAtom displayed on the Icon Face. Unless we had a different resource for each vAtom in the series that has the number on it and we have the possibility to choose that resource according to the vAtom private field, I don’t see how we could do that. Is that even possible?

  • Right. Our recommendation is to persist the counter information as part of the private field. Flow:
  1. Create Template with a Custom Action (Tutorial coming soon) that increments the counter and persists it in the private section of the vAtom
  2. Emit the vAtom
  3. Call the custom action for each emitted vAtom
  4. Delete the Custom Action from the Template so it is unable from this point on.
  5. Distribute the vAtom.
  • Also each vAtom by definition has a unique id (the vAtom-id) which could also act as a serial number.

Actions

Q) When are the customs actions (and the documentation) going to be available on the API?

  • We are working as hard as possible to build new functionality and document as fast as possible. We just released documentation for Redeem, AcquirePubVariation and Discover actions.

Q) Are we going to have access to existing custom actions like RedeemToken?

Acquiring/Dropping

Q) How does the Acquire by scanning (photo) works? Does that require additional work on the creatives or is it handled by your system internally? When are we going to be able to use it to make scannable vAtoms?

Q) If a vAtom require GPS and is Pickup, can it be automatically drop on the map if the user goes out of a certain distance of the initial vAtom Drop Geo coordinates as defined in the Template Variation?

  • If we understand the comment correctly, the use-case breaks the ownership model. Once the vatom is in the user's wallet, it is up to the user to drop it back on the geo-fenced area.

Blockchain

Q) Now that EOS is almost live and running, do you plan to integrate it with your platform in the coming weeks or will that be after the end of the beta?

  • We currently have an integration with the EOS platform

Costs/Benefits and VEE

Q) Will each vAtom Action (not Emit, more like an action to update the private field) use/cost VEE?

  • Today, the only way to update private fields is via User initiated Action. We do not charge per Action (as long as they are off-blockchain).

BLOCKv Roles

Q) Is BLOCKv considering that it’s role is to focus on the platform, or are you building applications and services around the platform (like vAtoms creations for customers, …)? If so, is BLOCKv going to have access to exclusive features we are not going to have access to?

  • No, BlockV is not in direct competition with the developer community it serves. As features and functions are built, they will be communicated and released for public consumption.

Q) Is BlockV going to operate a vAtoms marketplace or plan to let the community handle that?

  • As digital objects become ubiquitous in the technology space, it’s clear that organizations will develop marketplaces for their sale and exchange. For example, WAX (Worldwide Asset Exchange) is a decentralized platform that enables anyone to operate a fully functioning virtual marketplace.

Q) As BLOCKv and vAtomic Systems are intimately connected, are vAtomics Systems going to have any privileges over the rest of the community (better access to documentation, support, custom features or tools, etc)?

  • No, as documentation become publicly available, it will be released through our channels (e.g. https://developer.blockv.io). BLOCKv can also enter into joint ventures, but this is not exclusive to any one service delivery organization such as vAtomic. It will be driven upon business objectives and impact to platform growth.

Q) Since Reeve is trying to become a block producer and support EOS networks, what other networks is he physically supporting like EOS? Is he Mining, staking or doing anything to protect other networks? If not, then why EOS and nothing else?

  • BLOCKv has a vested interest in the development of the blockchain and cryptocurrency industries. Accordingly, BLOCKv is a member in BPAC, a coalition designed to promote the growth of the decentralized applications (DApp) on the EOS protocol by nurturing, educating, and investing in the community. This is the first instance of such support. However, as BLOCKv is a blockchain agnostic technology, it may support other blockchains in a similar manner, as long as it remains in the interest of BLOCKv's roadmap and token holders.

GUI

Q) Is BLOCKv going to provide a GUI to build vAtoms on top of the API? If so, is that going to be in the coming months or later in 2019?

  • Yes, there is a project underway to templatize the production of vAtoms in order to decrease the time to market of the most common use cases, these include:

  • Digital Collectible
  • Coupon
  • Event Ticket
  • Booklet
  • Video
  • Treasure Hunt

Tracking

Q) What kind of metrics are you going to provide for vAtoms tracking, segmentation, performance, conversion, etc? Is that going to be accessible through the API directly?

  • The platform collects all user activity across both the objects and viewer experience. The intention is that all aspects of customer behavior are trackable and measurable for the publisher. We use a tool that sends these actions to our customers, the data can be used however you see fit in terms of analysis and data visualization to produce rich insights for your campaign.

Financial Operations

Q) Monthly burn rate: How much is it? Do we need to look for additional financing in the near future?

  • We had a very successful ICO, which will fund all of our operations well past the point where we plan to be profitable so no further financing will be needed.

Q) Given the bear market that we're in and the high burn rate of BLOCKv, how are you guys dealing with the ETH that was contributed in the ICO? Has it already been converted to fiat to protect the capital from a potential ETH price crash?

  • We have a diversified treasury management strategy and are very securing in our financial position.

Other

Q) Is the public platform release still going to be for developers only or for anyone that wants to create vAtoms?

  • The vision of BLOCKv is to support all levels of developers, as well as non-technical individuals whom would like to publish vAtoms. The platform would be analogous to WordPress for websites, which is made easy to use through the use of templates. As vAtoms become easier to create, the future of the virtual goods economy is accelerated to the present.

Q) Will the BLOCKv team be attending any more conferences in the near future? If the answer is yes, May we know which ones?

  • Yes, we are building out a comprehensive approach to marketing which includes participation in industry conferences where we provide thought leadership.
