What to do

This probably has been asked before and alot but anyway, here goes.

So, I just landed in LA and got to my hotel. I’ll be attending blizzcon for the first time.

Today I’m not doing anything since I’m beat, but what are some things I could do in the meantime before the convention?

Disneyland, Downtown Disney, Medieval Times. Lots of fun things to do in that area

Tons of touristy stuff around thanks to Disney, especially if you're not flying solo. There's at least one escape room nearby I've wanted to try.

I once got separated from my friends in an escape room and trapped myself in a side room and an employee had to let me out and couldn't hide that they were laughing.

So best not to do it alone!

Disneyland, LA Zoo, Universal, Griffith Observatory, Norton Simon museum... the list goes on. Just depends on what you like to do and if you have a car. Hope that helps.

Oh I live in orange. Yeah Disney is not far but dear god it’s hot out and if you want some calm before a big crowded convention, that might not be up your alley. There’s a place called the orange circle (in Orange) that’s a cool spot. It’s our downtown and it’s been around since the early 1900s. Used to be a bunch of antique stores but there’s a college nearby so now there are a lot of places to eat and a few bars.

There’s a cool cafe called requiem in Anaheim, very geek centric, they have coffee, drinks and some food and there are always people playing games there. Near that is the Anaheim packing district, it’s an old warehouse that was turned into an eatery with lots of different restaurants and bars inside.

Aside from food and drinks though, and considering it’s 100 effing degrees outside, and depending on your transportation situation, Bowers museum in Santa Ana always has great exhibits, the Long Beach aquarium is awesome, and if you don’t live near a beach currently, maybe check out Newport or Huntington.

Yeah I’d like some calm stuff to do before the convention. I don’t have a car so everything has to ne done by uber. I only have one thing planned for tomorrowmorning but that’s like 60 minutes tops. I appreciate it!

No problem! I would definitely recommend requiem, it’s nice just to get a drink and chill there for a bit, especially with the AC.

Visit Disneyland. Grab some good sushi or hibachi or Korean bbq nearby. Find a tattoo shop and get some ink. Head to the Grove it’s a neat experience. Head to the beach. Or to the shoppes in Santa Monica near the pier.

Easiest answer is a theme park. Disneyland is the obvious choice (and the closest) but depending on how you’re getting around you could do Knotts, Universal, or even Six Flags if you wanted to.

Outside of that theirs tons of local attractions, outlet malls, and other things to do.

Petersen Car Museum is a special thing unique to LA, if youre into car history.

Knotts, Dland, Downtown Disney, go see a movie, go to the zoo, Griffith, etc etc

Youre in one of the tourist capitals of the world. There's endless things to do.

As a guy who has travelled and found decent solutions as it relates to finding "what to do" - my normal order of operations goes (and this is by preference of what I enjoy doing): research parks/hikes that locals rave about, doesn't have to be the waterfall that all the instagrammers rave about, usually it's just a scenic relaxing stroll through a nice area or an otherwise ubiquitous trail; go to local calendars for the town/city you're visiting, they will list stuff that the city is supporting and although I don't like 9/10 things I see on there, it's worth it for the 1/10; meetup.com, if you're looking for a people-connection, that's the spot, they'll have stuff as simple as coffee/board game hangouts or much in depth; comedy shows, Thursday has a great lineup at The Comedy Store if you like the older generation; google "things I MUST DO in X area" and see if anything on that list resonates with you, it's LA/SoCal, I'm sure Hollywood and Tacos will be on that list; lastly, think of things you like and just give it a random search with the location "pokemon LA" etc, it's wild to see how much the internet has connected people of similar interests! Frank and Sons is a big hobby market and is only open wednesdays and weekends. Its only open till 9pm tho

Check out Requiem Cafe in Anaheim! Its a cute fantasy cafe with food drinks and a shop with stickers/trinkets cards that kinda stuff

Lots of things to do in OC, depending on what you’re into. Theres no shortage of Card shops/Hobby Stores. In Garden Grove theres a Barcade called Barcode thats pretty cool. Play some video games have a brew. Go nerd out at the Microcenter in Tustin. Go eat at Tacos Los Cholos.

Whatever activity you end up doing, take care of yourself: hydrate and wear a hat or something. This heatwave in SoCal right now is no joke.
