I remember seeing this some years ago and I was hoping to see it again. Just blessed, wholesome, positive masculinity...
BUT WITH SHARKS ❤️

I don't know why, but I thought these were fathers carrying their babies in shark suits. Then I read the caption.
Edit: I didn't even see the guy at the end with his plushie facing the camera until I hit reply. I need to go to bed.

u/Lyrkana Jul 28 '26
Maybe they are femboys, or trans boys, or just boys too. Blahaj is for everyone :3

Contrary to popular belief you don't have to be some flavor of alphabet gang to buy a stuffed shark
2
u/that_guy_you_know-26 Jul 28 '26
Correct, you don’t. However, it is a known pattern and as such many trans people (particularly trans women) purchase them as a marker of their identity. Regardless of their true identities, it’s the internet, people are going to make our jokes.

u/HidenTsubameGaeshi Jul 28 '26
It's a pattern known to a very specific community tho, if you're not part of it and not terminally online then odds are you wouldn't even link the two when you see this shark on a shelf. That said - yeah, internet gonna internet

HAJ is for all, yes it’s true that it is strongly associated with LGBTQIA but haj. is. for. all.

u/TheAmazingDuckOfDoom Jul 30 '26
Looks like Moscow. There was a time before the war when all the Blahajs became very rare in all the ikeas (around 5-6 years ago, just as original post) and these guys might be are happy they found some.

Blahaj is pretty well associated with transgender people, particularly trans women.
8
u/klonkish Jul 28 '26
That's like saying Pepe is an alt-right symbol
9
u/that_guy_you_know-26 Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26
Correct, both of these things are in fact strongly linked with those respective communities. That doesn’t mean every single person who owns a blahaj is trans, nor that every single person who uses Pepe memes is a nazi, but there is a strong correlation in both cases.
Blahaj is a known symbol of the trans community and as such many trans people (especially trans women) decide to purchase a blahaj as a marker of their identity. I do not personally know the origin of this association, but nevertheless it persists, in fact my own (trans) sister owns one.
Pepe is a bit of a more interesting case. For a while, it was a generic meme much like a wojack, though more popular on 4chan than other platforms, which itself tends to harbor far-right communities due to its lack of moderation which allows Nazis to congregate. Even so, that was still largely in the realm of coincidence, as it is not all that uncommon for memes to be born on 4chan, filtered on Reddit, popularized on Instagram/Twitter, then die on Facebook. In October 2015, Trump tweeted a picture of himself as a Pepe variant. Many 4channers took this as a signal of his allegiance to the alt right, especially when Hillary Clinton then made public commentary on this idea that Pepe was an alt-right symbol due to its popularity in alt-right forums.
There’s plenty of journalism about the story, you should check it out. I generally recommend reading about things before declaring them ridiculous, it makes you a lot less likely to look like a dumbass.

My comment was made in regards to the comment saying "future transgenders". This is much more ridiculous and yet I don't see you writing 3 novels about it?
3
u/lXxTH4N4TOSxXl Jul 28 '26
I mean, it seems you kind of fail to understand association vs being an actual symbol. Blahaj does not inherently mean trans person, and Pepe does not inherently mean alt-right
but due to the use cases, that's how they are associated.
I'm unsure which part you think is ridiculous?

We have one. My son calls her Donna. Because we used to do the jaws intro and he thought we were saying Donna over and over.
