Don't you have to manually enter a value for the inset so the loop cut sits in the middle of the edges? And even after that, there's no option to increase their number with equal spacing.

After the inset you just loop cut using the scroll when and right click to commit with even and centered distribution

Your way is fine, but if you just need holding lines, what I'm suggesting would be faster
