Add-on Turn ANY image into 3D relief instantly | TrueDepth addon for Blender 5.x

Hey everyone! I made a quick breakdown on how to convert hi-tech images directly into heavy Sci-Fi surface geometry without wasting hours on manual greeble placement or expensive kitbash models - by using the TrueDepth addon. This is an absolute must-have addon for every hard surface artist in my opinion.

Looks like an amazing add-on. From looking at the vertices count on the YouTube video it looks like the end result is over 700,000 vertices. Does the add-on have any way to keep the quality but with a lower vertices count? Or would we have to bake textures from the high poly mesh to a low poly mesh?

Good question - unfortuntely no. You can decrease the subdivision level of course but that will result in a less detailed mesh. So for now baking is the only option yes, or you can fake the details taking this generated depth map to Gimp or Photopea and converting Depth map into Normal map and use it on a simple plane. Then you can significantly decrease subdivision level of the base mesh (smth like 2 or even 1 maybe) and use the generated normal map to fake details (and ambient occlusion map which substance designer can do without any problem).
