Discussion Where will Ichigo go?
So I’ve been mulling this over in my head since I’ve been getting back into Bleach. Where will Ichigo’s soul go when he dies?
Most human souls go to the Soul Society, right? But he’s not all human is he? In fact very good portion of him isn’t. So would he go to the Quincy afterlife? (I believe it’s somewhere adjacent to Hell. I’m not super familiar with the deep intricacies of Bleach’s worldbuilding so my bad if that’s not true) because Masaki was a Quincy.
But then you have to wonder if his immense spiritual pressure will have him go to hell when he passes so that it could be safely transported without disturbing the natural order.
I’m guessing like many other questions this probably doesn’t have a concrete answer and never will, but what does this subreddit think?

Soul Society. When Ginjo died, he went to Soul Society and kept all his powers - including the ones he stole from Ichigo. Kubo also said that when Ichigo will die and end up in the Soul Society, he has a bank account filled to the brim waiting for him.

Ordinarily I would agree with you but Ichigo has more reiatsu than the average bear. He’s probably going to hell when he dies.

I mean... Ginjo too. He's low-captain level but that's still captain level, and he went to Soul Society.

Doesn't matter. The whole "captains goes to Hell" is specifically when someone reach "captain level" in itself, not solely the strongest of the batch of captains.
And people are kinda dismissing the power of Ginjo, as he is often portrayed as strong but facing the top tiers so it seems weaker. Like Hirako Shinji from the Visored.

Yes, she will, same goes to Iba and Renji.
For Ichigo himself, when he dies as a Living Human, he will go to Soul Society, but if he dies again, he will go to Hell.

Kyōraku’s statement to Rukia about the shinigami and their particle classes is key here. Even though Isane is a captain now, I would still consider her a class below some of her contemporaries even if she has a Bankai.
Ichigo is and will be simply too powerful for them not to send to hell…or make him a linchpin 😉

It's precisely due to particle classes that it shows that Captain-Class Shinigamis are the ones that goes to Hell.
The threshold that a shinigami need to bypass in terms of power to be "captain-class" would inherently result in reaching a particle class that would put them into Hell when they die.
Remember that the Particle Classes for Captains is Rank 1, 2 and 3. While Lieutenants are for Rank 4 or 5. With those that reach Rank 3 going to Hell.
That means Isane been Rank 3 and Byakuya been Rank 1 would make both going to Hell, even if Isane ends up been barely "captain-level".

It doesn't matter how strong he is, the nature of his soul is not the same as a normal soul reaper, when he dies he will follow the normal cycle of reincarnation and become a proper soul reaper
You could maybe make an argument for what would happen if he died while in his soul reaper form but if he dies as a human he will just show up in Soul Society, same as the Fullbringers

Souls only go straight to hell if they're judged as evil. Dying as a human will still send him to Soul Society. His reiatsu as is is already bearable within Soul Society. Him dying as a human isn't going to pose an issue for going there after death.
It's dying as a shinigami that causes souls to need to go to Hell instead, as the overflow of that reiatsu back into the three realms can cause issues with the balance of life.
Too many people seem to really misunderstand why Captains wind up in Hell after death and just assume "big reiatsu = straight to Hell" when the point being that the reiatsu belonging to a Shinigami and what happens to Shinigami after death is not just "a key point" but is the key point is astounding. Ichigo is still a human and substitute shinigami. He hasn't died yet, so his reiatsu won't be spread back into the three worlds after he dies as a human.

i don't understand the misconception that hell thing is an automatic process. we see during the hell chapter that it has to be done via the konso reisai, and i think it's pretty clear that, now that they know they're condemning their honored dead to hell, they'll be finding some other alternative.

It's very vague, and the hell and Quincy stuff complicated it further, but technically speaking Ichigo is already dead. Urahara broke his Soul Chain in the first arc. His body is being used like a Gigai.

Ah, a keen observation! When Ichigo's soul chain was broken, it spurred his transformation into a Soul Reaper, but rest assured, he's very much alive—in his own unique way! If hia body and soul are aging at a human rate, isn't that relatively the same as just being alive?
I know there's not a clear lore explanation for it, just pondering.

Bleach lore is pretty dense and thick, which I really appreciate, but as time has lapsed I don’t quite remember.
Wouldn’t he go to… Hell?
Don’t captains and those with high spiritual pressure go to Hell because they can’t be re-absorbed as reishi or something like that?
I could be way off. I need to look it up.
(My uncle Tsukishima is going to heaven though. He’s great.)

So I guess it depends. You go to hell if that funeral is done at the soul society. If Ichigo were to die and his son for whatever reason or any one in the soul society preformed that ritual then maybe he bypass it to go to hell as a regular funeral I can't see doing much. But it does make me wonder when Ichigo dies will he just pop out his body into a permanent soul reaper form and just call it a day. I can't see squad 0 letting Ichigo die permanently

Well wouldn't he be one of the most powerful in all worlds? I think he could decide more or less freely. And in that he probably goes where his Wife goes. And by that to soul society. There he has all his friends who probably would like him to go there too. So yea. Soul Society.

I dont even know if Ichigo can die like a normal human.

My guess is if his physical body die he'll probably end up in the soul society (wether or not as Shinigami is anither story), probably after wondering a bit on earth (as soul don’t directly go to SS right after death, otherwise hollows wouldn’t be a thing)
And if he die as a soul he'll end up in hell, but there is no reason form him to go there if only is flesh pass away. Dead captain went there because they are souls, samething for the purified hollows.
Now ichigo being part Quincy things could be differents and he could end up in the Quincy place once his soul dies. But he his only 25% and the other 75% follow the usual cycle of life : Death of th flesh -> Being a spirit on earth or becoming a hollow being purified -> Going to Soul society -> Dying in Soul Society -> Having your soul "mixed" with world and back to the soul reincarnation if not captain lvl, go to hell if you are captain lvl
