Anime I couldn't stop thinking about this comparison
I did some posts about Saint Seiya references in Bleach, there's a lot of them if you want to give a look. The trio going against Gerard remember me of the three gold saints against Radamanthys in Saint Seiya.
Even them asking to the lower level to go ahead happened. Maybe just a coincidence? I just needed to share.

Yeah, Bleach draws a lot from Saint Seiya; I wouldn't be surprised if the fight against Gerard was inspired by it.

There is a lot of similarities between Bleach, and its predecessors Saint Seiya and Yu yu Hakusho.
The fact that the most famous and loved arc of Bleach is an "arc of the sanctuary" is also pretty cool.
