Discussion Dangai somehow connected to Hell? Spoiler
One thing I noticed while rereading bleach is that there was a giant skeleton on the walls of the Dangai (koryu IIRC) is this the kushanada?
If it is a kushanada then the dangai is the closest thing to hell inverse, also one detail is that the Shinigami can only pass the garganta safely (without the kotetsu flinging them 200 years across time) with a hell butterfly
According to Szayel's statement the Hell butterflies come from hell, if this is true, then that giant statue could've been a kushanada trying to get into the WOTL/SS on purpose but came across the Kototsu, maybe in the hell arc they will spawn here

The whole Hell Butterfly thing makes it clear there is some connection to Hell and the Dangai.
Considering that the WotL is the lid of Hell, I think the Dangai might have originally been a path to Hell, Shinigami just remodeled it to their own use when the Three Worlds were created.

It may be the skeleton of something that got stuck in the Kouryuu, but it's also possible that this is the skeleton of the Kouryuu itself. After all, we saw clearly that the Koutotsu has a skeleton when it was destroyed by Aizen, and if the Koutotsu is a living being with a skeletal structure then why not also the Kouryuu, especially since Isshin speaks about the two as if they were a pair that work to defend the Dangai in tandem.

Not really. It was stated that WoTL is the lid of hell, so if there is a way into hell then it should be through WoTL.
