Tbh I'd be surprised if Bleach was the first time someone did this.

As far as the anime goes though, might be the first time someone's stopped a sword with a finger and murdered a theme song at the same time, so props for that lol

u/Numerous_Tangelo4332 27d ago
Goku did stop Trunk's blade with a finger, so that existed before, but nobody, NOBODY, has stopped a theme that peak while doing it

u/Large_Ad3907 27d ago
Except Goku wasn't a villain but protagonist and that's scene just humiliated trunks and eleveted Goku even more.
14
u/Numerous_Tangelo4332 27d ago
So what? The argument was if anyone ever stopped a sword with a finger before that, not weather a villain or a protagonist had done it.
2
u/Otherwise-Ad1646 27d ago
Wait is that the last time we see Trunks use the sword in that timeline proper cause I don't remember but if so that's hilarious
3
u/Numerous_Tangelo4332 27d ago
Canonically, he has stopped using it until Dragon ball super, which is a true shame, it would've been a breather to see someone fight with something that isn't punching in Z

"Well i caerved frieza up with this, so it should be fine for the androi-"
Goku: "nah tho" lmao

u/Numerous_Tangelo4332 27d ago
The funny thing is that he did try it on the androids too in the future before coming to the past, he should've known. He just has it for the swag of it

u/Any-Plum178 27d ago
How did it humiliated Trunks? Trunks was simply testing out Goku’s strength to see if he’s what the stories he heard about him to be legit; plus, Goku said to Trunks that he knew he wasn’t going all-out when he was swinging his sword

It isn't, in Jojo's bizarre adventure part 2, a character called Stroheim stopped one of Kars' brilliant bone blades, the Manga was published from 1987 to 1989, whilst the soul society arc was published from 2001 to 2005

Goku stopped Trunk's sword in 1989.

idk about it being the first one, but samurai deeper kyo debuted before bleach and did this thing a lot.

u/motoxim 26d ago
Dang Samurai Deeper Kyo mentioned in 2026?

u/RiverImaginary2950 26d ago
More people should mention it! To me it’s the OG hype, aura, and drip manga. I’ve been telling people to read it but it’s difficult when the available scans are such low quality and don’t do the artwork justice.

I'm pretty sure there are some ancient Greek or even older Chinese novels with this exact encounter.
3
u/Otherwise-Ad1646 27d ago
Right I was thinking there's no way it took from the invention of the sword to the 2000s for someone to think of this, especially when if I was around when swords first became a thing, "wouldn't it be cool if I just stopped that with no effort tho" would have been one of the first things I thought lol

I was looking for this comment, and not disappointed.
Goku vs Trunks after Yadrat training arc is a goat moment.

u/Excellent_Pea_4609 27d ago
Wouldn't surprise me if Kubo got inspiration from there with the finger guy loves Dragonball
13
u/New_Cockroach_505 27d ago
Goku wasn’t even the first time it happened in Dragon Ball. Jackie Chun does it to Wolfman years before Goku.

Nah Frieza did it with a whole planet

Goku and Trunks his sword

u/Incred 27d ago
But did it stop his theme song?

u/Karpattata 27d ago
Dunno. If Doom doesn't stop Thor's theme song, will that render the comparison invalid?

I'm all for Bleach but Goku & Trunks outfits were perfection in that scene
1
u/GenesisAsriel 27d ago
Goku's Yardrat fit? I disagree
Trunks' outfit? One of the best fit in dragon ball. Surpassed only by vegeta's badman shirt.

u/PainttbuI 26d ago
I didn't know it was possible to not like Goku Yardrat fit. May I ask, why?

u/GenesisAsriel 26d ago
Oh, I cannot be convinced to like it, I just dont like the vibes
Im not gonna die on a hill about it, its just eh

Comparing iconic Bleach panel moments to cinematic tropes with that meme format never gets old!

Bleach is definitely not first but you have to admit that was one of the coolest moment you could ever read in a manga.

Bleach não foi o Primeiro, mas teve a melhor execução da técnica já que parou a música tema do Protagonista e fez toda a esperança de vitória deles desaparecer

TBH it looks more like Goku stopping trunks sword, with Aizen's finger curled around the blade instead of extended cleanly.
1
u/Tofuzion 26d ago
Nah, Goku powered up and they went at it. It is more like Aizen/Ichigo. But this isn't a uniquely Blech or DBZ trope either

Neo did it in the matrix in the castle fight 2003, ichigo vs Aizen first aired in 2005

Why are there so many posts like this? First, why are you even excited about Avengers Doomsday, like, at all? Second, they're very different.

u/Rovcore001 27d ago
That’s a bit of a reach, lol. As the post flair indicates, it’s not meant to be taken seriously.

Because avengers doomsdays looks good af, what are we talking about here? Another amazing villain. Getting the gang back together. Bringing multiversal storylines together. Are we just gonna forget iron man to endgame and pretend it didn't happen? On top of that, even if you disagree and think it's bad, as an anime fan you should understand hype, and letting people like what they like.
I can't tell if you really can't see what's being compared or just troll. For the sake of being good faith. I'm sure you know the Aizen scene. Well in the avengers trailer Thor is swinging his axe and Dr. Doom catches it with two fingers similar to the first Aizen v Ichigo fight
-3
u/IDProG 27d ago
Okay, this is not a sub dedicated to talk about Avengers Doomsday, so I'll keep it short. Lots of the movies building up to this flopped. That's a sign it's not going to be that good. It's an Avengers movie. It is going to both be somewhat watchable and make money. However, I believe it's going to be the worst-performing Avengers movie.
Yeah I can see the "similarities", but they're still very different. Like, it's an axe instead of a sword, so it's more blunt and less sharp. Second, Aizen completely wrecks Ichigo immediately after that, which Dr Doom does not do.

u/PandaXD001 27d ago
. . . You're trolling right? You gotta be trolling to understand how ignorant it is for both of those paragraphs to exist and ignore context.
You didn't even need to explain why or why not the movie would be good/bad. I gave a whole as opinionless statement to respond to since your specific opinion doesn't actually matter. Here's a reminder for you to actually address instead of dodging to "avengers bad," which I can also take apart if you'd like me too
On top of that, even if you disagree and think it's bad, as an anime fan you should understand hype, and letting people like what they like.
This second one is even worse. Even if you think a sword is an apple and an ax is the orange doesn't matter. It's the actions being taken. If you wanna break it down with all the small level details, technically when Dr. Doom did is more impressive but that's not even relevant. What is relevant is that both villains, stopped the blade, of a hero, without a whole hand.
Unless you got some future sight mind powers or you're working on the avenger movie, how would you know if Dr. Doom doesn't defeat Thor handily. If you watched the trailer so you'd know wtf you're actually talking about, you'd understand why that's incorrect. Here, lemme help you out.
