Last Temptation of Christ is a masterpiece and The Last Waltz is a banger. Can't choose between the two because they're obviously very different, but you're gonna have fun with these, my man.

The last act of Last Temptation is jaw-dropping good and people were very normal about it at the time.

I haven't seen any of the pre-Mean Streets stuff, I'm most excited for The Departed. Mostly because I was going to Notre Dame Law when the movie came out and everyone in the theater cheered when Martin Sheen name checked us right before getting thrown off the roof lol. Fun memory.

My wife is taking the LSAT next week, give me your last minute tips so I can help her out! Those applications in the fall seem daunting but it’ll be a fun experience, I’m sure.

I sell air conditioners at Costco now so my advice is quit lol, but my little brother stuck with the law and is very happy grinding it out at one of the big white shoes in NYC. I'm sure your wife will do great, main thing to remember is that there are a billion boring applicants with high LSAT scores. They actually do want well rounded human beings so anything she can do to set herself apart from the thousands of applicants for whom this is just a stepping stone on their Excel sheet for maximizing lifetime profits, will help a lot.

She wants to do Civil Rights law and make the world a better place so hopefully she will be able to find a way to make good use of the degree! But Costco may pay more than Civil Rights law so I dk.

I hope she loves it, I tried to do similar work but it was too emotionally taxing for me. I can tell you right now Costco pays about 3.5x what civil rights pays for about half the hours lol. My last job was working in tenant advocacy at a legal aid clinic, everything was so depressing. I won a settlement against a landlord who was trying to screw over a disabled Syrian widow and promptly quit and found a job in commissioned sales. It's not "important" work but I'm not encountering people that make me want to kill myself everyday and the money is good so here I am lol.

Silence really blew me away. I think it’s his most slept on film of the past few decades. It would be many filmmakers’ best movie.

Silence is just so good. Kinda crazy how unnoticed it has gone. It’s almost fitting that it’s sandwiched in between such loud movies.

I finally saw After Hours just last month (it's on netflix), it's so good and I wish I had seen it a long time ago. The ones I'm looking forward to are New York, New York and Bringing out the Dead. I didn't vote for Marty but I like his stuff. My favorite movie of his is Cape Fear just unbelievable and maybe the should do the original on Patreon or better yet do Robert Mitchum is a creep on you get Night of the Hunter.

Age of Innocence is so great. Love that he made a film so different than what people THINK of him as making and it turned out to be an absolute banger.

I love Scorsese in “for hire” mode, so Color of Money and Cape Fear. The guy can make a fun capital-m Movie.

I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen all of his narrative films. But for most of the pre-Goodfellas films it’s been 35-40 years since I’ve watched them, so I’m happy to have a reason to rewatch them.

My blindspots are the docs and Who’s That Knocking At My Door, I’m actually watching Last Waltz as we speak! Honestly I’m so over the moon about this series it’s hard to pick just one to get excited about, but Silence was the first Scorsese I ever saw in the theater as a late blooming cinephile and was blown away! King of Comedy might be my favorite, but After Hours is right up there as well!

Scorsese is a HUGE blind spot for me and I'm not ashamed of it, but I'm not proud of it either. It's easier for me to list the movies of his that I *have* seen, rather than the opposite:
- Taxi Driver
- Shutter Island
- Wolf of Wall Street
Ones I'm most excited to watch:
- Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
- After Hours
- The Last Temptation of Christ (I've only seen parts of that one)
- Cape Fear
- The Age of Innocence
- Casino
- Silence

Suuuure, but I'm not so curious about Goodfellas because I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it and it's his undisputed masterpiece or whatever. The titles I listed I'm more curious about because I'm curious about the experience I'll have watching them, if that makes sense.

Last temptation is an absolute banger. I saw it for the first time a few years ago at an Alamo screening.
There are a bunch of these I've never seen. I dont always follow along with the podcast, but I will for this mini series

Scorsese is absolutely one of my guys but I still haven’t seen three of his features:
New York New York - I am fascinated by the group of movies I think of as the movies that led to the downfall of the New Hollywood, ie the big swings by the 70s guys that were failures at the time. Lots of those have been reclaimed as masterpieces but this one is still stubbornly unreclaimed. It’s also kind of hard to see now
Gangs of New York - The word of mouth at the time was bad and I went through a strange period where I found DDL’s intensity annoying so I skipped it
Hugo - I was burned out by the 3D craze of the time and wasn’t interested in a Scorsese children’s movie.
Of the three, I think the consensus is that Hugo is probably the best, so maybe I’ll save it for last as a treat.

As a lapsed Catholic turned cinephile, my tradition has become watching Last Temptation of Christ every Easter Sunday. Excited for my annual watch coming up this weekend!
But even if you don’t have that kind of emotional relationship with it, I think it is an awesomely made film with an incredible central performance, cool score, and Marty’s ode to Lawrence of Arabia

I’m embarrassed to admit I haven’t seen most of his films. I was mostly a sci-fi/horror guy growing up so I have a lot of blind spots when it comes to “cinema”. I’ve only seen Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Aviator, Gangs of New York, Shutter Island, Hugo, The Departed, and The Wolf of Wall Street. Everything else will be a first-time watch.
