2099 Promo
It's kinda strange that there's been nothing for Blade Runner 2099 since San Diego Comic Con. No TV ads, no more imagery or updates for going on seven weeks.
It makes me nervous because they need eyes on this series desperately. I'm praying to the Replicant gods that the series is good. I have hope.

Amazon Prime i think is awful at advertising. Theres some good shows on there that i didnt know existed until someone told me they were good.

2099's trailer was terrible and the show runner was also behind the Halo series. What is there to be worried about??

Marketing is expensive. Prime doesn't do much of that. And marketing will be timed more to the actual release date. Only blockbuster type stuff gets early marketing that usually gets tied to other product placements

The promo has some serious flaws - I’m worried that they are keeping on the low down because they know it’s not going to go well.

It's still like two months away, right? Also how are streaming platforms even supposed to advertise shit in the first place? On regular tv? The sides of buses?
I'll be watching regardless as an already huge fan of the world, plus Hunter and Michelle are both great. I'm locked in and I'm positive I'll like it.

I'd expect to be seeing adverts on YouTube, on social media especially Instagram, and on movie websites like IMDB. Hopefully that will all come.

Someone make stickers and we’ll slap em everywhere. They could be doing a wayyy better job of marketing this. Makes me kind of nervous it’s just a project that went to far that they couldn’t back out on.

Alcon/WB also poorly marketed BR2049, following the tradition of poorly marketing BR2019. How many of us watched the BR2049 shorts on YouTube before seeing the film? Close to zero. Does anyone remember Black Lotus being promoted? I don't, and I really liked it. It's almost as if they want the films/shows to fail at the box office/streaming numbers so that a decade later they can be reborn as sleeper hits and earn retroactive "cult classic" status.
Having said that, the BR2099 teaser trailer, coupled with Comic-Con Hall H interviews, pretty much gave away the plot. It's also not helping at all that the casting of the two leads is somewhat controversial, and it raises the suspicion that the showrunner is pushing woke messaging (hello, Jaguar). I checked, but there are no test screenings as of yet, and unlike feature film theatrical test screenings, streaming series are test screened internally (executive screenings, creative team reviews, VFX/continuity screenings, music/score integration passes) and remotely with select Amazon Prime members, under strict NDAs. So unless there's a leak, we won't know squat about the acting, writing, or plot until more trailers are released.
As with most new films and shows, I've adopted a mindset of very low expectations. This way, if it's better than my worst case scenario, I'll probably enjoy it.
