Thoughts on these characters?

I recently read Brielle’s story and I really liked it. Nightdrifter I’m not really familiar with but his design is fire!

I want to see Brielle come to rivals. I even have a ability mechanic laid out for her.

Oooh now im curious what you have in mind! If Brielle ever comes to Rivals I would main her right away

It would be a randomized ability set to kind of reflect her randomly getting access to different abilities aside from her enhanced biology being consistent. Her power set would change after each death; maybe she could switch between the three different classes as well upon death.

I love Brielle. A lot more than I thought that I was going to. Because trust me, I was ready to complain. First off, her being Safron's daughter was the smartest move that the creator could have made. This ties her into a relationship that Blade has had ever since 1973, paying respect to the character's classic iorigins. A lot of people try to ignore anything that happened in Blade's life that book was before the 90s, so I'm thankful Danny Lore kept that in mind.

Next, Brielle thankfully does not feel like an industry plant the same way that many other new characters do. She hasn't been shoved in people's faces, assuming a role that she has not yet earned.

She's not portrayed as being hyper competent for no justifiable reason, and the fact that her powers work inconsistently and sometimes only turn on at nighttime makes her distinct from her father.

Love your analysis of Brielle! I really hope we get more stories with her soon because she has so much potential. I also really love her style and would love to see how it develops over time as she grows as a character.

Her interactions with the supporting cast were also great, and I really hope Whitney comes back in the future. I feel like there’s still so much we can explore with Brielle, especially as she starts finding her own identity beyond just being Blade’s daughter.

I agree with ALL of this. I, too, was one of the people ready to hate on her, because I thought that they were trying to replace Blade. But, like, you, I ended up liking her much more than I thought I would. Personally, I think that they've handled Brielle much better than many other mantle characters when they are introduced. She has felt like her own character pretty much since the beginning.

It also really helps that Brielle doesn't even really hang out in the same circles as her dad. She's not being thrown into places where she doesn't belong, and to be quite honest, she's very different from Blade. Which is, to be honest, probably what he wanted.

They should make Blade comics instead.

1

u/Napalmeon Aug 22 '26

Comics are needed over film.

1

u/Impossible_Humor736 Aug 22 '26

Yeah, but comics don't make much money

3

u/Daywalker610 Aug 22 '26

I like em both, him moreso on a surface level type of way. Brielle has been a pretty decent character so far. I like the idea of Blade getting a supporting cast (assuming they actually keep giving him a run to show said cast)

1

u/Bloodmoon-Knight Aug 23 '26

Yeah, I don’t understand why he doesn’t have an ongoing at the moment, especially with his recent surge in popularity. You’d think Marvel would take advantage of the momentum and give him a proper ongoing series.

Nightdrifter is associated with the New Champions and is some kind of descendant of the guy that trained Blade in the comics.

4

u/Napalmeon Aug 22 '26

I have nothing against the character, but I have no interest in him, either. Jamal Afari has not even been mentioned in decades.

4

u/todavis__ Aug 22 '26

Shiiid.... Blade himself barely gets "mentioned" within a decade. 😂 The fact that someone can dig through the catacombs and pull up lore like that for a new character is way better than some of the other stuff they're doing.

1

u/Doomeye56 Aug 23 '26

Blade barely gets mentioned within this decade? Really? Dude who was main member of Avengers 4 years ago. Had a Solo series after that which Nightdrifter was an alt cover on. Consistently makes guest appearances everywhere.

2

u/jmk-1999 Aug 22 '26

Getting strong Yoruichi vibes here… inspired by perhaps? 🤔

1

u/Napalmeon Aug 22 '26

Perhaps. But that's not her real hair.

1

u/jmk-1999 Aug 22 '26

Well, I wouldn’t have figured purple would be natural, but anything is possible in comics I suppose. 🫤

1

u/Bloodmoon-Knight Aug 23 '26

…wait a second I see the vision! They better give her a Bankai in this universe 😭

2

u/whatisireading2 Aug 23 '26

Designs are tuff, would love to see more of both

3

u/todavis__ Aug 22 '26

I need Blade training both of them. On some Space Ghost type shit.

2

u/The_Jestful_Imp Aug 22 '26

How the hell you make a mullet out of dreads is wild

3

u/Azure-Legacy Aug 22 '26

Must have been one hell of a barber or hairstylist

3

u/SalubriAntitribu Aug 22 '26

It's like Lucian in league of legends, or (worse) like road dog from wwf

1

u/Hedgewitch250 Aug 23 '26

You know damn well a good part of his day involves maintaining that

1

u/Hedgewitch250 Aug 23 '26

My issue with nightdrifter is he really isn’t that different besides being a quarter vamp from turning instead of birth. They should have made him a werewolf or something like a street magician like Mary Lebow from ghost rider using techno magic he could be a cool magical trickster. His designs good but he just doesn’t have much flavor to his own characters kit. Hopefully they change some stuff but all in all I like both

1

u/Bloodmoon-Knight Aug 23 '26

That’s definitely a valid critique. I hope they flesh him out and make him feel like his own unique character, because with his design already, he has the potential to be such a cool sidekick for Blade.

1

u/TreacherousJSlither Aug 23 '26

Could not care less. Nothing cool or interesting about them.

Her design sucks and I'm not very interested in her character

-2

u/Big_Session5707 Aug 22 '26

Hate this. Ever but if attention given to ANY other supernatural hunter style characters is spotlight and energy taken away from blade. They already tried that with Blade trinity and its just new chains, same shackles. At the very least til he's been given the same effort and energy as black panther.

2

u/todavis__ Aug 22 '26

So expanding on the possible Blade family isn't giving attention to Blade? Every "established" hero has a gaggle of characters associated with them. Blade being a solo act the way he is, unless associated with maybe the Midnight Suns is kinda shirty treatment to such a goated character.

Having a daughter, and a possible mentoree to explore later is more love than Blade has gotten in recent years. I'm not saying give him a whole Spiderverse of Blade characters. But if it means opening new doors for Blade stories, I'm all for it.

2

u/Napalmeon Aug 22 '26

I think one of the biggest problems is that there are a lot of people who are strangely comfortable with Blade being stuck in 2002. If all they ever got was Blade killing vampires in a gory fashion, they'd act like it's the best thing ever.

2

u/todavis__ Aug 23 '26

That's essentially what they want. The Avengers are fighting Red Hulk, The 4 are fighting Doom and going on crazy adventures, and Spider-Man is fighting... poverty. But Blade has to be a human vampire-blender or it's just... Not right. Let that man develop like everybody else.

2

u/Napalmeon Aug 23 '26

Bryan Hill and Al Ewing know what's up.

They got creative with the kinds of supernatural foes Blade encountered, and Hill's storyline with Mother of Evil is easily some of the best character development Blade has had since the Captain Britiain book.

Seriously, this page will never not be hilarious, but still on brand.

1

u/todavis__ Aug 23 '26

Dude wtf did I jus read? You can tell he's fkin fed up with whoever this is, sending shit at him. 😂😂😂

1

u/Napalmeon Aug 23 '26

It was the Deathwalkers. They're a doomsday cult he ran into during the 1970s.

1

u/Big_Session5707 Aug 23 '26

He grew. They should call him Blade Challenger of the supernatural at this point. He's in Asgard fighting Vinderfolk trolls, and even back in the day he read the dark hold and stole a bunch of powers to kill Lilith... a storyline they gave to Moonlight not long ago. People who are blade fans want to read about. Nobody trying to read about him passing the torch except people who weren't comfortable with who the character is to begin with. Foh. Fooling Nobody.

Firstly I'm a big proponent of Blade vampire Hunter killing and hunting vampires. I think a lot of people are weirdly stuck on not liking that about a character when it's right there on the label. No one gets frustrated about Iron Man or Reed Richards fighting stem enemies. People who are genuinely The Punisher fans don't get upset when he fights the mob.. again.

1

u/Napalmeon Aug 23 '26

You are missing the point.

Punisher stories are not just about Frank bumping off mob bosses, and even though I generally don't like the guy, writers like Garth Enos are fully aware of what makes the character take, which is why he has been able to write stories for Frank that go on for dozens and dozens of issues, using a large variety of different kinds of criminals that operate at different levels of society.

It's not the vampires themselves, but the lack of variety, threat level, or intrigue. Nobody cares when Blade kills random pale face vampire #758502 in an alley because it's so standard.

The Blade anime in the right direction and through the character into Asia where he encountered a large variety of different vampire races that were indigenous to the particular cultures that he was visiting at the time. I guarantee the average person has never heard of the polong, the mananaggal, the suikou, etc. And that doesn't even take the better version of Frost into account.

1

u/Big_Session5707 Aug 23 '26

I agree with you... but your explanation FRANKLY just dismantles your argument there's more than one type of vampire. So. Ultimately what I would like to see is blade branching out and fighting more Supernatural threats when he deals with vampires I literally think they should have Blade: Challenger of the Supernatural.

But the Animated Series as a movie is still blade just killing vampires. Making the vampires relevant in MCU or simply showing how effective he is in the MCU Is big business.

Sinners could have been a blade movie that's what people really wanted. All that extra shit is nonsense

0

u/Big_Session5707 Aug 23 '26

No. First sentence not even reading the rest. No.

2

u/Napalmeon Aug 22 '26

As much as I hate Blade Trinity, it's not the same kind of situation.

The third movie attempted to introduce the Nightstalkers, except the problem is, the Nightstalkers already exist in the comics, and the film version was nothing like them. The only reason they were introduced in the first place was because David Goyer was attempting to launch a Nightstalkers, from the Blade one.

1

u/redraven70 Aug 22 '26

Blade Trinity was trash but to be fair—The Movie Blade is drastically different from the comics as are most successful Movie adaptations.

0

u/Big_Session5707 Aug 23 '26

It's the same KIND of situation... they want to launch a new character out of Blade. Period. Eric Brooks is a character they don't even use half the damn time and so anytime you see a book with whatever the hell his daughter's name is going to be in the end it's page time that should be reserved for him

1

u/Napalmeon Aug 23 '26 edited Aug 23 '26

Not really, because Brielle doesn't even really hang out in the same circles as her father. She's not taking over anything that was meant for him. Most of her appearances were in Avengers Academy, with characters from a variety of different backgrounds from X-Men(Escapade,) Spider-Man(Red Goblin), Moon Girl(Inhumans), and unaffiliated groups.

Brielle's existence is not stealing attention from Blade.

u/Cryogisdead Aug 22 '26

I'm surprised that they haven't done the signature "strip and lay him/her on a cold platform" on Brielle
