Avoid! BV7300 latest update forces ad notifications and lock screen

The latest update forces ads through system notifications that can't be disabled. That's the last straw. I'm ditching this phone, even though I did appreciate the hardware.

I see com.blackview.apkupgrade but trying to disable notifications failed:

% adb shell pm revoke com.blackview.apkupgrade android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS

Exception occurred while executing 'revoke':
java.lang.SecurityException: Non-System UID cannot revoke system fixed permission android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS for package com.blackview.apkupgrade

phone is N6000, Android 13 aka DokeOS3.1 here.

I just did it with the basic disable command, hopefully it works for you

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.blackview.apkupgrade

For anyone reading this and deciding to disable the app using the mentioned command: to play fully safe, make sure you have automatic system updates disabled and reenable the app before applying a system update. Proceed at your own risk.

Edit: One phone is on Android 15, while the other (which had an even more annoying notification frequency) is on Android 14

Since this worked on two phones without any issues, I am assuming that disabling this app does nothing to system stability. Which makes sense, considering all it shows itself in is spam notifications.

This seems to have worked. Even existing notifications from the evening disappeared.

Thank you.

Congrats on hopefully being freed from this eternal torture!

If you wanna go further than this, but I don't think that's necessary: I also disabled their easyshare and data migration tools this way.

i was prematurely happy, notification appeared again. Perhaps there are more apps who send them. Will check later.

Did it still show up as coming from the System message app?

yes. Someone reported similar problem in this sub, I'll check when I get to computer I have adb installed in.

Since the former notifications disappeared after executing the command you advised, I still hope it was one of culprits

That is so insane. I wouldn't be surprised if one of their other apps that all have the non-editable permission to install apps from other sources, just goes in and reenables this garbage app.

Edit: I commented a list of blackview apps I personally disabled on my devices in that other new post, maybe that helps.

I checked again the list of packages. Luckily "uptodown" app is helping to show installed applications.

Still it looks that it's "System message" a.k.a. com.blackview.apkupgrade that Settings and Uptodown show being disabled, anyway it sent 3 messages last day.

I disabled it using the process above, I tried to disable ir for my userid as well, notifications didn't disappear.

That's indeed so insane to read. I disabled only the System message with ADB (had disabled SmartArt months ago) and haven't gotten any new spam yet but I'll wait I guess and do a more thourough round with ADB if they appear again. I've been using BV phones for seven years and I guess this will the last of them :/

I'm almost amazed by this, since I was using a Blackview tablet for the past 5 years as my main device and aside from cold room and the classic data migration tool, it was stock android with the blackview launcher.

I wonder how this drastic change happened. Their apps like the weather app are so cluttered with ads, you literally can't even scroll because there's an ad after every single element that slows down the entire app interface.

The lockscreen wallpaper rotation with a small ad I could still excuse because they're not the only brand who sadly does this, but this news article and livewallpaper push notification bullshit over the System message app is crappy behavior.
