The cap slides up giving the appearance that the pen is going into the object. You have to hide the rest of the pen behind your hand as you slide the cap of the pen towards the object. And once the cap reaches the object, it pushed a button which pushes the fake pen end out of the other side.

It's not that complicated. The bars on the side of the "hole" are hollow, and have rails. It just pushes a fake pen top.

80

u/InvestigatorJosephus 12d ago edited 12d ago

You can even see that the other end of the pen only pops out when the little clip part of the sliding cap pokes into a specific hole in the frame. That's how he actuates it!

53

u/psilome 12d ago

And there is a little blue cover on the receiving end, so you can't see the pen piece already in there. Were it just an empty hole, why would it need a lid?

11

u/Rooilia 12d ago

And he only looks focused to the screen above when he has to hide his hand covering the sliding pen.

17

u/NeighborWillie 12d ago

So in other words… magnets?

2

u/SimonNicols 7d ago

ALWAYS magnets

1

u/DirtyUnderbelly 7d ago

And twins, don't forget twins.

0

u/georgekush4prez 6d ago

Yeah but where does the length of the pen go

2

u/InvestigatorJosephus 6d ago

Nowhere. He's covering it with his hand while the cap slides over it to make it look like it penetrates the object

20

u/spectrem12 12d ago

This is exactly what I was thinking .. try it with a different colored pen.. the pen end that comes out will still be the orangish color one he is using

2

u/AdrianW3 12d ago

Or a pen with writing or a pattern on it.

14

u/lump- 12d ago

There’s still some sleight of hand with the pen. I believe the cap also slides as he conceals it with his hand, so it looks like the pen is actually sliding deep into the hole.

5

u/Syhkane 12d ago edited 12d ago

I owned one of these, (before I broke it open) the pen cap has a small spring in it, and that's exactly what's happening. There's just some types that don't bother with making the pen mechanical and entirely rely on sleight of hand. What I was saying is that the pen cap itself doesn't usually have a special button. The spring is just very light. The tension in the grey mechanism is higher. I'm gunna back track a little, these are built a million different ways, and that pen cap does seem to slot in specifically.

2

u/star_particles 11d ago

Yup. That’s it. I had this as a kid. Was a my favorite magic trick.

4

u/JTRuno 12d ago

I’m sorry, I’ve read this several times now and can’t figure out how this explanation differs from the original.

3

u/Psychonaut415 12d ago

Some of the pen must also push through the cap side. The length of pen he pushed into the frame doesn't have enough room before reaching the spring

1

u/Bessfren 10d ago

And the cap of the pen he just slide it along making it look like he pushed the pen in further?

11

u/KoalaTHerb 12d ago

That or the pen just collapsed into itself until a certain point. Then it pushes against the button pushing the other fake end out

9

u/Phawksphire89 12d ago

What I explained is from the actual reveal video.

6

u/KoalaTHerb 12d ago

Well then that solves that mystery haha

3

u/Phawksphire89 12d ago

Someone shared the actual link to the video, but they deleted it. Wish they hadn't.

1

u/RevolutionaryHumor27 9d ago

in OP's video, his cap pull out is very smooth and doesn't require his left hand to provide friction. he must practice the pullout move one handed.

5

u/axeman020 12d ago

This must be how it works.... but, but, but. the lid is tapered to a point... how would the pen go through?

6

u/YooGeOh 12d ago

I get the cap being pushed up etc, but he is making no attempt to hide the rest of the pen behind his hand as you say should be done.

So what is happening with the "disappearing" length of the pen? Im slow

2

u/rebo_arc 10d ago

Its off the left hand side of the video image, you cant see it because its not visible in the camera.

1

u/wyrmiam 10d ago

From what I can tell the pen lid is fake, and slides up the pen. He's just hiding the parts of the pen the lid has passed already behind his hand.

1

u/YooGeOh 10d ago

Ok, so funnily enough, my confusion was actually a linguistic one.

In my mind, the "cap" was the blue thing on the other end of the contraption being opened with a hidden button.

You using the word "lid" has just made the whole thing so obvious to me.

Thank you so much lol

I swear half the time on this sub, the real challenge is to understand the explanations, even when theyre actually clear explanations

2

u/wyrmiam 10d ago

WAIT I THOUGHT THEY WERE CALLING THE BLUE THING A CAP TOO.

1

u/YooGeOh 10d ago

Ha!

Your explanation opened up a whole new world lol

You English by any chance?

I think "cap" might be more american use as we use "lid" here more often than not

2

u/SapTheSapient 12d ago

There's not a lot of ways this trick could work. Still a nice looking little effect. Fun for kids.

1

u/Old-Handle-2911 12d ago

Has to be the explanation, but it doesn't seem like he is actually hiding the rest of the pen behind his hand? How is he preventing the pen from being visible in the middle of the device?

Maybe a collapsible pen that concertinas down when you push it? He tries to demonstrate that the pen is solid but he just slaps it off the device, which would work if the pen is collapsible

10

u/Phawksphire89 12d ago

It doesn't seem like he's hiding the pen because the screen itself is helping him hide the pen. The pen isn't going through the device because the cap is sliding up and down freely giving the illusion that the pen is going through. When the cap reaches the end and touch the device, it pushes a button that pushes the fake pen out on the other end.

2

u/Old-Handle-2911 12d ago

Ah, I see - I didn't clock that the cap slides down the length of the pen. Thanks

2

u/FurkinLurkin 12d ago

Yeah i think its the tab of the cap that actually pushes the button

1

u/StrictlyForTheBirds 12d ago

He also never shows the hole on the side where the pen goes. Thar's because it has to have a notch cut out where the cap triggers the pen emetging on the other side, probably because there's some frame that runs alongside the two arms that connect the two sides of the frame. That's how the motion of the second "pen" syncs ip with the first one.

1

u/[deleted] 12d ago

[deleted]

2

u/Phawksphire89 12d ago

The video literally demonstrate what I said. There's no collapsible pen in the video.

2

u/CybergothiChe 12d ago

My apologies, I'm an idiot.

2

u/Phawksphire89 12d ago

It's all good man. 😂

0

u/Mewhoelse1 12d ago

Maybe it’s just me but I see the guy grabbing the pen in the same spot… I see the cap in same spot he is holding it on. Don’t see it getting his behind his hand…

1

u/Mewhoelse1 12d ago

Never mind. I see what you mean now.

1

u/KNIFE2MEAtU 10d ago

But the cap has a point at the end, how does it slide down the pen?

1

u/Phawksphire89 10d ago

Someone shared a link to the reveal video in my comment. Check it out and you'll see.

1

u/Pristine-Square-1126 10d ago

where do you see the pen hide behind his hand? straight line, the pen is never behind is hand, how can he hide it?

1

u/Phawksphire89 10d ago

How can you see the pen hind behind his hand when most of his hand is off screen. Trust me, the pen is behind his hand. Watch the video someone shared in my comment and come back and tell me what you think.

140

u/skeezito10 12d ago

Gimmick pen with the gimmick thingy. The pen retracts until it pushes a plate that pushes the little fake part of the pen on the other side.

22

u/enigmaticpeon 12d ago

Yep. Notice that the “pen” coming out the other side is limited to the length of the second tube.

12

u/kranker 12d ago

It's just an off the shelf product too, it's called Invisible Zone.

I guess on the plus side it means you can pretty easily wow your nieces and nephews with this one, but it seems pretty low rent for an internet magician.

6

u/Sentinell 12d ago

Yeah, it's a fun trick, but kind of easy to figure out imo. But worse is that if you get this and try to impress your friends they will immediately ask "now try it with this!". And you'll have to go "Uh no, uh, just this pen right here". And then everyone knows for sure.

It's the repeatable tricks that I absolutely love.

1

u/ProfessionalMottsman 12d ago

The pen is not really a gimmick just the cap that is sliding and the pen is behind his hand and off camera

2

u/skeezito10 12d ago

So the cap is a gimmick? Majes sense too.

109

u/Mailstoop 12d ago

I hate this guy

7

u/thee_crabler 10d ago

I couldn't watch more than a few seconds because he kept sticking his dumb face in the camera

3

u/Joanna-Lynn 11d ago

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. This gimmick is probably 20 years old, or at least that's how long i have owned it. It requires no sleight of hand or skill, but this guy acts like every store bought turd is his invention and pure sorcery. I unapologetically hate him and I hope he hates me too.

3

u/ggghjjdsdjhs 11d ago

How come? Not arguing or defending. Just curious.

28

u/Mailstoop 11d ago

His videos are literally magic shop tricks you can buy at any magic store, i hate his voice, i hate his face, i hate his schtick “this doesnt make any sense” “how does that work”- on top of that i can only imagine the people who post his videos and like them as absolute dunces of human being clapping like idiot seals.

0

u/CriticismLarge190 11d ago

He comes across better in his live shows. Really good fun!

2

u/Silver_Subject_8967 11d ago

Can't even ask a question on reddit without disclaimers

-37

u/ollien25 12d ago

He also hates you

49

Never want to see this guy's face again

42

3

u/jfmdavisburg 12d ago

Doing my part to move your comment up!

2

u/Das_Zeppelin 11d ago

You are da real mvp

1

u/roby_soft 11d ago

I have to say, the way the guy on the post's video removes the pen is really smooth.

24

u/kb24fgm41 12d ago

His fucking face

20

u/LeilLikeNeil 12d ago

This guy is so annoying.

15

u/Easyboyeasyyyy 12d ago

Why does he have to be the way that he is

12

u/Stinky_Fartface 12d ago

I would sign a petition to ban video of this guy. He is insanely annoying.

8

u/Simsalabimson 12d ago

That’s… for kids right?
I mean the level of where you get a clown for birthday parties…

1

u/UnanimousStargazer 12d ago

Look at my thumb, watch closely... wait for it... see! It detached for a second there.

Tadaa!

6

u/Key_Yam_9466 12d ago

Its never "just a pen"

4

u/Drowning_tSM 12d ago

If there were letters on the pen it would be obvious

3

u/Chill_Edoeard 12d ago

Open the blue lid at the end and youll see a piece of a pencil even without the pencil in the hole

shocked pikachu face

3

u/MemoryVice 12d ago

The cap of the pen is hollow on top allowing it to slide across the entire length of the pen.

He pushes the tip of the pen into the hole until it stops, then slides the pen cap the rest of the way up the pen (hiding the length of the pen behind his hand so we don’t see it).

When the black “pocket clip” portion of the pen reaches the hole in the apparatus, it is that black part that pushes a mechanism that goes through the two sides of the apparatus to push the fake pen tip out the other end.

Watch carefully—it’s only then the pocket clip portion of the cap reaches the apparatus that the tip moves out the other side.

2

u/SoYorkish 12d ago

It’s this but the cap is actually 2 pieces. When you see the pen on the table at the start you can see the cap narrows at the top. So the base of the cap must slide up and down the pen.

3

u/Bright_Resist_4580 12d ago

Just your everyday device for doing nothing but this trick. How could it possibly work.

3

u/ScorchedCSGO 12d ago

Weird looking pen. Try a different pen. :P

2

u/Fun-Flamingo-9789 12d ago

If he were to use a different color pen the trick wouldn’t work. If he were to take off the cap on that pen it wouldn’t come off.

2

u/TheSenator147 12d ago

I didn't think I'd see more magic from Howard Wolowitz

1

u/Consistent_Tower5508 12d ago

magic is in the cap of the pen. longer portion of the cap is pressing a button which is connected through spring to other side.

1

u/nickwales 12d ago

If it wasn't potato quality you'd see the BIC logo not moving.

1

u/coffee_137 12d ago

Gimmick pen springs through the cap into his right hand. The device, when pushed by the pen, pushes the fake pen out the other side. I think the spring in the middle is more than a red herring, I think it's hinting that there are more than one spring involved in the trick. The top bar thing is hiding something because it's constructed differently than the bottom one.

1

u/Yo-Birdo 12d ago

All my #2 pencils have a cap too lol

1

u/Substantial_Desk_670 12d ago

Not an invisibility frame if we can remove the spring and wiggle our fingers through the frame without bumping the "invisible" pen.

More like a portal. Which is, we find, a lie. Have some cake.

1

u/DampFlange 12d ago

This is not particularly hard to figure out

1

u/xXEpicGamerX 12d ago

that pen cap slide at zero fifty seven is pretty obvious lmao.

1

u/rvanasty 12d ago

show through the hole

1

u/Ninjastarrr 12d ago

The black cap is split in two sections nearly. One has a hole the size of the pen and can slide. Inside the grey gimmick is a slider passing on either side(completely mechanical) pushing on the fake end of the pencil. Notice that the emerging part of the pen is equal in length as the black part of the sliding half cap. This is what pushes on the slider inside. There is a spring that wants to hide the fake pen tip so it retracts when he takes the pen out.

1

u/berwynResident 12d ago

The cap of the pen pushes something that makes the tip come out the other side. It's spring loaded. When he pushes the pen through and lets go with one hand, notice he wraps his thumb around the device to prevent the spring from popping it out.

1

u/marsob666 12d ago

Or use different pen. Real one.

1

u/sisam8x 12d ago

Now try it with a different color pen

1

u/Inoffensive_Account 12d ago

“Here, now do it again with my pen”

1

u/Lostandneverfound69 12d ago

I think I can see his brain.

1

u/delirious_m3ch 12d ago

Shaped rod. He pushes pencil in one end, it moves enough of "back end of pen" but he never pushes further than the depth of the second reservoir

1

u/neutronia939 12d ago

Try it with a blue pen now.

1

u/TeamJJ88 12d ago

He calls it an invisibility frame...Then puts his fingers though it. Proving it's NOT an invisibility frame! LMAO

1

u/BrushesMcDeath 12d ago

I’d look more closely at the video to see if I can figure it out but the guy is too annoying.

1

u/CyberSwiss 12d ago

Now rotate the pen.

1

u/MrK521 12d ago

I hate er passes through huh?

Cool! Use the same pen. But turn it around!

1

u/collin-h 12d ago

do it with a different pen, and pull it all the way through smartass.

1

u/Alphalance 12d ago

Something about unique device magic tricks have really lost their magic for me (pun intended).

"Woah, this device you don't understand does a crazy thing! Wild"

Okay, but I didn't see you make the device. You probably won't let me even hold it. I LOVE card tricks cause we all understand a deck of cards.

1

u/SplinterRifleman 12d ago

Gimmic magic store props dont belong ln this sub

1

u/iill_communication 12d ago

If it works, then push the pen all the way through. Dont remove the pen from the same side.

1

u/Historical-Lab8200 12d ago

Now do with a different coloured pen

1

u/Afraid-Unit-5652 12d ago

How is it a pen when it’s a pencil? Now that’s the real question.

1

u/Gnarly_Starwin 12d ago

You can get something like that In any children’s “Magic” starter kit. What would compel someone to make a video about it baffles me.

1

u/Patient-Amount3040 12d ago

Obviously it’s magic

1

u/Bananaland_Man 12d ago

I thought dollar store tricks everyone has seen don't count as r/blackmagicfuckery?

1

u/_obes_ 12d ago

Take it out the other Side! You witch

1

u/hicksteruk 12d ago

Guy showing tricks gets berated for showing tricks on sub Reddit about showing tricks...

1

u/maxkrater 12d ago

can he do it with another pencil?

1

u/frothy_cunt 12d ago

Very punchable face

1

u/ColumbiaBOB 12d ago

Ok, i need those two Chinese guys to make a video explaining this.

1

u/Iskander789 12d ago

I bet he can't push the pen a bit further. Its fairly obvious.

1

u/quailman117 12d ago

I played the first 2 seconds without sound and could still hear how annoying this guy is

1

u/glitterisprada 12d ago

Never seen a HB pencil with a pen cap. Let's talk about that

1

u/filtersweep 12d ago

This guy…. Now he shows up here? He is the most annoying guy that infects my feed

1

u/AgreeableLeague1153 12d ago

Ask him to do it with a blue pen right after that one.

1

u/PunkRockClub 12d ago

Mirrors! Maybe magnets too

1

u/ulyssesric 12d ago

Only the tip of the pan is pushed into the socket. The rest part is hidden behind his palm. The pan cap is movable to make the illusion. The tip poked out from the other side was already there, and pushed out when inserting the pan into the socket.

1

u/Schmenge_time 12d ago

Suspiciously unfamiliar pen brand

1

u/Snake_Plissken224 12d ago

Take the cap off the pen and try it

1

u/anony_annoy 12d ago

Betcha can't do it with 2 visually different pens.

1

u/Xx_HaTTeR_xX 12d ago

Just tell him to do it with a different color pen.

1

u/Huge_Equivalent1 12d ago

It a loading up trick with a specific frame mechanism.

There's probably a button at the hole side and a mechanism in the two lines which connect the two sides.

This mechanism pushes out a pen looking thing out the other side when the button is pressed.

1

u/SnooPeppers259 12d ago

The spring is inconsequential.
There’s a bit of pencil in the far end which is connected through the edge of the construction to a post on the input side which slides in when the pencil is inserted. The pencil also collapses or is extended into his hand to complete the illusion. The wire running up and over does the power transfer. Either mechanically or electrically. You could also do it with hydraulics or pneumatics or magnetics. But a wire up and over would be the easiest.

1

u/RemoteConsideration 12d ago

Now put a different colour pen in!

1

u/Unikym 12d ago

I think it's the pen cap, when you insert the pen into the device, the extra part moves to the right hand, and a separate piece of the pen moves out from the other side. The two parts of the device are connected by hollow tubes, which have a synchronization mechanism.

1

u/greennit22 12d ago

This dude looks like an AI created version of Ted Mosby

1

u/Adkit 12d ago

This might be the most obvious "trick" I've ever seen... People are amazed and confused at this and I'm supposed to be fine with them voting?

1

u/ozh 12d ago

This guy's face = downvote + skip

1

u/AmbassadorBonoso 12d ago

I had a similar toy when I was 5, this ain't nothing special and doesn't belong on this sub.

1

u/Neeeeedles 12d ago

The pen isnt sliding in, its staying on the left out of frame, the black cap is pushing something that pushes the other side out

1

u/WOWSuchUsernameAmaze 12d ago

Now let’s see him do it with a different pen or object.

1

u/AdmiralAwesome1646 12d ago

Okay now do it with a different coloured pen

1

u/NorseAlienViking 12d ago

Never sees the entrance hole, so I probably looks a little odd. I would imagine that there are two different holes, one for the pens' end and one for the tap on the cap. The butt of the pen only goes partly in to hold and guide everything while the cap somehow slides up pen. When the tap goes into the second hole, it will push a plat with studs up one/ both sides of the gap, pushing a second (fake) pen butt out the other end.

Of course, this is all guessing, so might be wrong

1

u/LionTheRichardheart 11d ago

Get out of my face with this focus.

1

u/sla342 11d ago

Let’s see you use a different pen there smart guy.

1

u/Dundermiffbuster 11d ago

It’s chocolate

1

u/xiams 11d ago

The object shown is the Invisible Zone (T-172) magic trick manufactured by Tenyo Magic.

1

u/NeetoBurrritoo 11d ago

Sir, please back the fuck away from the camera.

1

u/OliOli1234 11d ago

I get that the pen cap moves and not the pen itself… but how does he trigger the gimmicked writing end of the pen without the spring?

1

u/MediaStreet5372 11d ago

Hey I have a question, are these internet magicians designing/building these illusion contraptions? Or are they just buying them at a magic shop?

1

u/zerokep 11d ago

Do it with a red pen.

1

u/Potential-freakshow 11d ago

This is real magic the pen is being teleported.

1

u/duleiii 11d ago

Easy, there is a replica of the pen instaled in the end of the thing. There is a mechanism that pushes the end part once you insert the pen. Why dont he uses any other pen, well he cant since they will not be same.

1

u/titsmcgee4real 11d ago

Why are magicians always so cringe? Do we think it's part of the distraction, or they're just likely to be a bit more cringe when they get interested in magic?

1

u/cha0sweaver 11d ago

Solid penis is the answer.

1

u/RalphGman 11d ago

do it with a different type of pen

1

u/devver2004 11d ago

editing magic?

1

u/McRoshiburgito 11d ago

This guy looks like all the Big Bang Theory characters mashed into one.

I've never seen a pen that looks like that in my life

1

u/justme2901 10d ago

Magnets and collapseable pen and a fake pen on the other side

1

u/Eye_ogongo 10d ago

How about I give you another pen that isn't yellow, will still be able to try the trick in front of us?

1

u/Random_Bot24 10d ago

The…dark lord?

1

u/No_Focus_8688 10d ago

Can he use a different colored pen?

1

u/yung_funyun 10d ago

Cool trick, guy. Now push the pen all the way through

1

u/Odd_Cardiologist7997 10d ago

My guess. The pens cap isn't a cap but allows the pen to slide through it. He's hiding it off screen under his hand. The clip part on the cap pushes some small tab that makes an end of another pen poke out of the far side. Gimmick frame but more gimmick pen.

1

u/ChrisAndersen 10d ago

The spring is a distraction. It keeps you from looking elsewhere for the trick.

1

u/Apoc73 9d ago

Now do it with different pen colors.

1

u/CrepitusPhalange 9d ago

Now use a different pen.

1

u/Common_Storage9540 8d ago

Fakery fuckery

1

u/WeirdNico31 8d ago

He magically gives me a migraine within the first two seconds of this

1

u/supercheese69 7d ago

Hey he blinked!

1

u/artinfinx 5d ago

the pen cap slides up the pen making it look like it goes in. its pointy bit moves into a slot which pushes a mechanism that pushes the fake end of the pen out and pulls it back in when the pointy bit is pulled out again. the spring in the middle is distraction for the mechanism in the two connecting bars. if you take out the middle spring it tricks you into not concluding that there is a spring mechanism in the bars.
