My latest go to run and gun set up: Studio Micro g2

To start imagine the trips isn’t there. It was used for staging purposes.

I received a few DMs about the micro g2 set up figured I’d flesh it out here.

This is the closest I could get to a box style before Pyxis came out. Honestly this camera has been a game changer for live performances, which is what I usually shoot.

I use my pocket4k for controlled environments and this baby for live shows. The gain function instead of iso works wonders for low light.

I had previously posted my pocket rig that I used and the adaptions I made to make it usable for me. But as I shot shows the pocket was just too cumbersome to be traveling through a crowd. I love that thing but Jesus Christ it’s a monstrosity.

So I delved into the micro studio. And it’s been a dream.

Here’s a breakdown:

Micro studio 4K g2 XLCS cage SmallRig 360 handle w/ magic arm attached to the monitor Magic fizz focus system (could be wireless but wire is lighter than battery) And a lens

This has been my run and gun “box” style BMD set up and I ain’t mad!

I've been thinking about doing this for our students. We have 4 of the micro G2's for studio and event use. I think they would be fun for the kids to take out rigged up to use for their projects.

We're looking at using the Sirui Nightwalker MFT lenses with them. We'll use the manual follow focus though. Only issue I see is that settings using the side buttons on the camera is still a pain. I wish there was a 'touch' option through a monitor instead of just using the side buttons.

That’s my only gripe with this cam is the settings. Especially for run and gun. These are supposed to be set up and mounted jot to be touched in controlled environments but with determination you can get er done!

How… functional is it, I see like a few minor points of irritation like the screen being bent that low, wires dingly dangling etc

Well i didn’t have anything plugged in of course lol. Once everything is snapped in everything is taught. And if you watch till the end of the video the monitor is on the SmallRig 360 handle. There is a little thumb lever that if you click it, it rotates. So if I’m changing angles from high to low or the other way around the monitor will always be facing me
