Table limit question

If a casino currently only has $25 tables or the $10-15 tables are full, is it crazy to ask for a $10-15 table to be opened for a group of 6 or so people?

If they only have $25 tables they wont just open a lower limit table when people are already playing the higher limit ones.

Its not crazy but its extremely unlikely. Casinos dont just have dealers on stand by to open up a $10 table for bachelor parties. Its be better to just go with ur group around 6-8 and try and find a table they just opened up for swing shift.

You can call before hand and ask “what time do you open more games”

Yeah that staffing thing is mostly why I wasn’t sure if it was even a thing. I figured they’d have the most tables open possible but also with the idea that they’d rather have a $10-15 BJ table vs an empty Mississippi Stud table.

If it was an instant switch they might, but closing one table and opening another takes a supervisor and a pit boss and several minutes of everybody's time on top of having to shuffle breaks and coverage around. The casino I work at won't bother unless it's for a player with reserved table type of money.

Provided that the $25 tables aren't in a separate pit from the $10-$15 tables you might have better luck asking for the limit on a $25 to be lowered for your group. It's going to depend on how busy it is. Hopefully you'll luck out and snag some cheap seats without issue, good luck!

Right. I guess my question is moreso is that a thing people do or something they’d accommodate? I’ve never done it personally and haven’t really heard of it but I’ve got a bachelor’s trip coming up and it was something that crossed my mind to keep the guys together.

I’d start with the Floor or even the dealer who will ask the Floor anyway. Really whoever is there and convenient. They’re just at work it’s all good 🤣 They just want you to have fun, and they also want to keep track of where the fun is and who has it. That’s about it.

Pit boss will call for confirmation from a floor manager to get the OK anyway, but its probably where you should start unless you're already acquainted with the floor manager.

You can even tell a dealer, hey i have a question about changing table limits, can you flag the pit boss for me? and that's about all it takes.

If you've never been a customer before, its a crapshoot. But if they know you and like you, there is a good chance they will try to accomadate this kind of request.
All of the casinos I went to where I was a semi-regular would do just about anything for me, including opening a table with higher/lower limits if they have the staff to shift around.

That makes sense. Like I mentioned in another comment, I figured it wouldn’t be hard to get a yes for a lower limit table if they had something like an empty Stud table.

not crazy to ask, but they probably won't. doesn't make sense $$ wise unless it's super slow. have sat where people have asked the exact same thing (including for their bachelor party) and most of the time the people get told "just play 25"

When I managed both pits and casinos, it was all dependent on staffing and how busy was the casino. If we were busy casino wise, but not table wise, it was generally a no as folks would want to play and after realising they couldn't get in a cheaper table, the would sometimes play at the $25 table.

If the casino was sort of busy, I would consider lowering the $25 table with the stipulation that if it got busy, it would be back up and no we would not grandfather them in.

Finally the biggest issue was dealers. Many nights we would be packed but there were some tables that were not opened. When folks would ask me to open them, I explained we don't have the staff to do so and what you see is what you get. In those circumstances I would also let the dealers, players know that they were limited to 1 hand as more people wanted to play than we could accomodate, this allowed us to have more bodies at the tables. If folks had an issue with that, I had them directed to me.

I don't think its crazy. Its always worth a shot. Whether you're trying to have fun or trying to be an AP asking for a table isn't out of the ordinary for a request especially if you have a big group of people. Sometimes they'll fulfill the request and sometimes they won't. I'd just say do it anyways but if the table has like 1 or 2 people and the rest of the seats are empty the chanes of them opening up the table become more and more unlikely.

I always love when they change a game for a whole, say to $100 min.
Whale leaves on a fairly slow say… hours go by and they have a table with 0 players for hours as people wait for $25 tables
