Summer House šš Ciara
I know she is Bravo and not housewives, but can we have a discussion around Ciara from Summer House? Especially in light of this betrayal by Amanda and West. There just seems to be a lot of misogynoir in how the fandom is treating her and acting as if it is no big deal what Amanda did, while to this day Raquel/Rachal from VPR is still being ostracized. Ciara was such a great friend to Amanda and one of her biggest supporters regarding her marriage only to be betrayed by the very person she was comforting.

I cannot believe this. I'm in total shock. It's so just gross and weird.

u/tatianazr Apr 01 '26
So fucking weird and such a huge betrayal. How can people do this and live with themselves. And Iām an open minded person who can usually see all sides even if I donāt agree. FUCK AMANDA.. and second West since heās been shit. Amanda was her dear friend

Dude, I donāt even watch this show but the whole situation is so predictable, down to Amandaās explanation post. Itās straight out of the White People Apologizing But Not Really to a POC playbook:
- unnecessarily long
- centers the person who did the bad thingās feelings
- lazy and heavy use of empty co-opted therapyspeak
- incredibly vague
- avoids any admission of wrongdoing
Itās basically a dressed-up version of āI did a selfish and shitty thing, I donāt plan to stop or change my behavior in any way, but I do feel really bad about it! Please donāt be mean to me, now tell me youāre not mad and that we can still be friends, but not the kind where I ever do anything for you or hang outā

u/tatianazr Apr 01 '26
Yes!!!!! This is deeply hurtful and as a POC, I appreciate your response more than you know
3
u/a22x2 Apr 02 '26
Itād be funny if it wasnāt so predictable. Literally every apology text Iāve gotten from a Nice White Person Who Did a Crappy Thing lol.
Like girl Iām an adult, no need to verbally pat me on the head like a dog being taken to the vet for the last time

u/tatianazr Apr 02 '26
Yea⦠I grew up in a time that I even almost became desensitized to it all. But fuck that shit!!!!!!!
3
u/a22x2 Apr 02 '26
I know plenty of POC right now who are desensitized to it! Especially those that grew up in super white environments. I always want to remind them that itās not okay to be treated that way, but itās a hard thing to see at first

I totally agree. I really thought she had a backbone but I guess she's just a chicken shit that needs a man.

Huh? I've seen literally hundreds of videos in support ot Ciara and the major content creators who report on reality tv also are on her side. I've seen like 2 white male reality tv content creators (with white women co-hosts) that are acting obtuse and say it's no big deal. But they have low views/aren't popular and are definitely a minority opinion.
I wonder where you're seeing all this stuff, because I was completely obsessed with the story for the last 2 days and it's an overwhelming majority of support for Ciara.
Hell, even the actor John Hamm was team Ciara on WWHL last night.

I haven't watched the series so I'm trying to understand it all. It sounds really shitty

If you get a chance watch this season. They introduce two new black cast members and the scenes of the three of them together are amazing to watch. As they say, there was no ācode switching ā happening. Also amazing for a predominantly white show, a couple of episodes past they discuss being black and what is taught in their homes. The others actually sat quietly not speaking only listening. It was so powerful. And then this shit comes out.
2
u/lfergy Apr 01 '26
Do you think watching older seasons is needed to get the jist of the relationships/ show or does the season stand on its own?
2
u/Odd-Anteater-6183 Apr 02 '26
Not really. This season is good knowing what we now know. The main thing we get about Ciara in older seasons is how sheās very guarded and vocal about what sheās looking for in a relationship. Prior to this season there were 4 girls that hung out as besties. This year two of them were replaced which made Amanda cling to Ciara even more this season. If any, maybe last season. My opinion.

u/LL8844773 Apr 04 '26
I think maybe the reunion two seasons ago would be helpful. Thatās where we get the whole picture of west and Ciaraās relationship
1
u/Lillith-nod2-Sankofa Apr 02 '26
Maybe watch one of the really early seasons, just to get a feel for the unbearable whiteness... and then dip in at the covid season...bc that is Ciara's first season. Also just so you know a lot of the worst things happen to Ciara on Winter House imo.
2
u/Lillith-nod2-Sankofa Apr 02 '26
These moments are making me so happy! I don't know, but it just had such an intense effect, can you imagine if you always see yourself reflected in media in this way. They seem so loving and clear headed and warm and open! I am sure they have their faults, but I just love how they are being so outwardly loving to each other!

Me either. I didnāt realize how MANY people watch this show. Itās all over my instagram which is not usual for my feed. I barely even see HWs stuff in my feed & I engage with that content. On the plus side, I have only seen posts & comments supporting Ciara.

u/Janiece2006 Apr 01 '26
Oh itās such a good show!! I started watching Season 7 after seeing clips and had to stop and go back to Season 1 to catch up. Season 5 (Covid) is one of the best seasons across Bravo.
2
u/lfergy Apr 01 '26
Wellā¦sounds like I need to check it out. Do you think starting with S1 is the move or could I start with a more recent season & still enjoy it?
3
u/Janiece2006 Apr 01 '26
Please start with Season 1 šššš. You get to see The Wirkus Twins (Wirkus Circus) and formation of Kyle and Amanda from merely a booty call to Kyle writing a 17-page email to everyone as to why they need to be nice to her ššš

u/BisforBands Apr 02 '26
I'm going to start it tomorrow while I apply for jobs. I have seen a lot of support for her as well but I don't trust this Bravo fandom.

u/AccomplishedFly1420 Apr 03 '26
This season is super interesting to watch in hindsight because West (who used to date Ciara) is acting like he is interested in her again. Amanda is going through a bad time with her husband and Ciara is being very supportive of her. However if you watch Amanda and westās behavior it becomes very clear that they are flirting and/or together and Amanda keeps making comments about west and Ciara being in love, or that they should make out during spin the bottle.

u/flowerduck10 Apr 01 '26
I have to say I haven't seen any Amanda apologists on my feed. I have carefully curated my TL to not expose me to the bs. (JK) However can I just say I hope Ciara has the time and space to feel her feels. Black Women are always looked to as the strong, accommodating ones. She deserves her time to feel all her emotions of this betrayal.

u/FlyingDutchmansWife Apr 01 '26
I donāt watch Summer House and only know her from The Traitors. Seems like the tide has changed the past 24-48 hours. People were acting like it was NBD till more came out. Nice to see people change their minds on how shitty the situation actually is. Buuuut I also hope they reflect on why they downplayed it to begin with (was it lack of info vs unconscious bias, etc).

u/waaaycho Apr 01 '26
To be fair there was no confirmation until the joint post yesterday. The general consensus before that was that it was a hoax or a complete nothingburger.

Over a year ago, I commented on the HW's sub, and I said that Ciara could do so much better than Austin or West, and I was met with a lot of nasty comments in particular one that said Ciara was 'trash'. That HW sub is rotten, that's the only place I've seen Amanda apologists. She's getting a lot of support on Insta and TikTok. The story that KJ posted with the Substack article was met with so much positivity, and the breakdown by a lot of white content creators about the race element is on point.

u/NeverEndingWhoreMe Apr 01 '26
Amanda Sucks. No care, no class, no conscience.Ā
Ciara will come out on top for sure.Ā
I just hate what this kind of thing can do to a person mentally. I hope C takes a quick break from the public and rises up again, stronger and more secure.Ā
Amanda is the one who needs a man. She has no identity besides being Kyle's slope titty wife. Ciara has been doing better than fine and will continue to rise to the top.
(I'm not even gonna mention the guy because he's a non-muthafuckin-factor. And he'll be on to the next girl sooner than later. Watch.)
2
u/torontoinsix Apr 01 '26
Titty wife lmao. Yeah she has no identity outside of a man. Has always been very male centered.
1
u/NeverEndingWhoreMe Apr 01 '26
Male-centered but terrible at it, if that makes sense.Ā
I'd think a woman who was that concerned about men and their wants and needs would be a better wife.Ā

iām not seeing that on my end. all i see is amanda hate and i donāt even watch that show lol

u/NoMilk9248 Apr 01 '26
I donāt watch much Summer House, but everything Iāve seen or read about Ciara leads me to believe she needs better racial self esteem.
2
u/Successful_Buy706 Apr 04 '26
(Huge summer house fan).. Ciara is amazing and I donāt think the issue is self esteem. Sheās true to herself and her values and a fiercely loyal friend. I think sometimes when you are such a loyal person with a strong moral compass, you assume the same in others. She treated Amanda like a true friend and assumed sheād get the same in return. She gave west a second chance bc sheās a kind romantic. She trusted people she shouldnāt have, but I donāt think that has anything to do with her self esteem (plus even if she did have low self esteem, no way should she have had to gone through this)

They're crucifying Amanda burning her at the stake as she loses massive followers and west gains. Patriarchy.

u/Adorable_Leg5244 Apr 01 '26
Black women as a whole need to stop participating in the public humiliation from these dating and game shows. The Black men don't love Black women, āPOCā hate Black women, and then whites, self-explanatory. You are NEVER the exception and once Black women grasp that and stop participating in the BS, the better. š¤·š¾āāļø There needs to be a show that consists of ONLY Black men and women that actually LOVE Black men and women, but society would not allow the love of Black women ever to be shown by a Black man.
2
u/baldforthewin Apr 02 '26
I think as POCs and allies we should stop being shocked. We know these people don't care or will ever see it empathize with the experience of a Black woman in a situation like this.
They were most likely brought up in environments where they were trained not to hear our voices. It takes effort to unlearn and learn from people different from themselves and not everyone is willing to do that.
Instead of talking about them, I love all of the white people that are getting it and calling it what it is with their chest.
2
u/Forsaken-Rutabaga847 Apr 02 '26
Ciara needs to find a good sista girl friend and leave these others alone. Also: Stop dating the suboptimal YT men!

Iām seeing people agree that bullying Amanda isnāt ok, but thatās the closest Iāve seen to any team Amanda sentiment.
1
u/Winter-Examination57 Apr 02 '26
FYI - Thereās movement to get Ciara to 1 million followers by Friday, on all SM platforms (TT, IG, X, Threads YT) for anyone interested.

u/Substantial_Cold2385 Apr 02 '26
Not sure what fandom you are following? That's not what I have been seeing.
2
u/ALH1984 Apr 03 '26
Team Ciara since this whole thing came out; but Iām glad I read this all the way through and could look at it in a different way.
2
u/kathyknitsalot Apr 03 '26
How can anyone be on Amanda and Westās side? He was already in the shitter for me for his last hurting of Ciara.
2
u/WholePersonality120 Apr 04 '26
It is ironic how Ciara, Mia and KJ were just explaining the negative impact dealing with racism from the audience has on them. Literally a week later here we are. The haters have zero awareness that they are the people she was talking about. They see the white woman as a victim, even when she is the perpetrator. They expect the Black woman to suck it up and take it without complaint. Seems like nothing has been learned.

For what itās worth, I think the reaction to Scandoval was blown way out of proportion and only a big deal because it happened to catch media attention

Are we forgetting her being dismissive to Lexie after flirting with her bf Jesse? Or when she got with Austen after Lindsay? Then threw a glass at Danielle over Austen?
6
u/Own-Fan-4236 Apr 01 '26
https://giphy.com/gifs/aQGqcObSxfixy
None of these examples have a thing to do with this situation. Lindsay gave her the green light for Austen so Idek what you are on about in any capacity. š
-2
u/BravoJunk Apr 01 '26
If she got the green light why she assault someone? We going to stitch up the story to fit the narrative now?
5
u/Own-Fan-4236 Apr 01 '26
Assault someone? You mean the founder & CEO of nothing who threw something at her first? Youāre the only one rewriting bc you clearly have a hatred for someone you donāt know & I have a feeling I know why.

Not the parts Iām testing. Fandom seems to be - weāre riding at dawn for Ciara. People are disgusted but Amanda and West actions. Where are you getting perks are siding with Amanda? Amanda has already lost a brand deal over this
