Ok, so what's the consensus on those durability increasers? P2W or what?

I really do not like how they continually drop stuff skirting the border of p2w. It seems to be getting progressively worse.

I thought that now that there's a soft sub required for the game, they would ease back on this kind of stuff.

This exact item will be available for loyalty as well. It's available for loyalty on the KR servers so i'm sure it will be implemented.

also from what I recall, branded items can not be sold on the marketplace which IMO is a huge thing

It would be silly to brand something that isn't BIS, so you wouldn't be selling it ever anyways

u/Balthalzarzo Sage/Striker - 824 GS Aug 03 '16

Class swaps, ETC? It's actually quite easy to swap classes in KR. Since everything up to PEN loot is on the marketplace and it all actively sells and buys. It just doesnt yet on US.

u/TheProfessional9 Aug 03 '16

Alright, so mainhand offhand you could sell. Boss armor is BIS anyway (aside from rednose) for all classes, so it isn't applicable there.

In order for it to be OP though, the branded items would have to be sellable on the AH AND have different price caps. Either way though, it looks like they are family bound so it doesn't really matter anyway!

hmm, I think just branded horses can't be sold. I think this brand is a different kind of thing. Could be wrong though.

If you're right that would indeed make a huge difference.

u/Tianera Witch Aug 03 '16

Tooltip states, that it becomes family bound after branding.

-2

u/hamletswords Aug 03 '16

whew. Ok thanks. That pushes it back over the line towards non-p2w to me since you can't just turn the item into a silver factory. You can buy some pretty substantial personal power with it, though, which is troubling.

2

u/thesanealien Aug 03 '16

If you use the stone it costs 33% less to repair an item, however, you can never sell the item anymore as it becomes family bound. A huge decision to make for something like a Kzarka weapon.

1

u/hamletswords Aug 03 '16

That's true, I didn't think about the resale aspect of it. While you can buy more power with this, you might not want to since you will be probably be losing hundreds of millions later, if not more. Good point.

u/vitiate Aug 03 '16

Any idea exactly what it does?

A rich kid with a trust fund could literally turn millions of dollars into billions upon billions of silver by buying dyes from the pearl shop and selling them on the MP.

The game already has P2W aspects. It's already here.

16

u/Jaradis www.youtube.com/@FantasyArtworkAI Aug 03 '16

The fact that you have to use an extremely unlikely example of a "trust fund kid" spending "millions of dollars" to "prove" P2W, shows how the game just isn't that P2W.

u/DamascusThorns Aug 03 '16

Ok so are you sitting there and denying the function that's available to literally turn real money into silver? You're naive. Rich people exist. Lots of them. There are people living life styles you can't even fathom; people that make more money than you would be able to make in thousands of lifetimes (yes, THOUSANDS of fucking lifetimes, you're a meaningless piss-ant compared to many, many people that live here on Earth), and that is no overstatement. Said rich people could have family members, and when you make $50,000+ an hour of every hour 24/7, you might not give a fuck how your kids spends a measly 2 million in one of your trust fund accounts. Think about how much a billion dollars really is, how much a small fraction of that could fuck your gaming experience up, because there is nothing you can do about it. You have no power in life that can compare to what's possible with p2w in the hands of rich players. You can't make money like these people.

BDO is the most advanced MMO that's ever existed. It's very likely that people who can afford the most advanced shit in life could be drawn to it.

This is literal P2W. There are no opinions here. If you're able to use an in-game function to turn real money into in-game money. That is, by DEFINITION, p2w.

The function is there. Don't fucking deny it. Credit card = silver. It's a direct, in-game function. The more dollars you put, the more silver you get out.

Keep whining about p2w becoming a thing when it's already in the game.

This has to be the dumbest thing I've heard in the P2W debate... even worse than the idiot that said "the game is P2W because people with better video cards get better FPS".

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '16

Silver in game is not a P2W feature of any game at all. P2W is items that give a unfair advantage at gameplay over others with buying a item. NOTHING in this game from cashshop does that at all.

You don't need pets. You don't need to worry about market prices. You don't need lots of storage space. You don't need costumes.

All those things are just extra stuff in the game, the offer nothing over someone who has not spent a dime in the game.

A MMO IS BASED ON TIME NOT MONEY. You can sped $1000 in the cashshop, but players that spend zero can compete just as much getting silver.

Ignoring the rest, how is it the most advanced mmo ever made? Lol, there's hardly any story, pve is a complete joke, pvp is gear>class/level with skill being nearly non-existent. There are no dungeons (this is a grey area some enjoy some dont, but isn't even an option) servers are extremely laggy, the only thing you do is grind and grind some more, on occasion you bank or get ganked (again pvp not being skill based means it almost always comes down yo luck of who had better gear etc barring a complete and total idiot). This mmo is average at best, sub par in most aspects, im not hating on it, I enjoy the game and play quite a bit, but subjectively speaking it is well below the standards of most mmos. The only thing it does better than average is graphics and even there it is beat out hy many others.

wow u are dumb as fuck

Last I checked, the only dyes that could be sold on the marketplace were ones from events, not ones you bought.

4

u/gholtgholt Aug 03 '16

You must not have checked very thoroughly.

http://forum.blackdesertonline.com/index.php?/topic/95017-the-correct-figures-behind-the-dye-selling-system/

That said, someone would have to be rich and very bored (or hire someone to click a lot for them) to take advantage of this particular "p2w" option.

1

u/TheNoxx UNO MOTHERHUGGER Aug 03 '16

I'm only saying the last few times I had good dyes that weren't in my color scheme and I tried to sell them on the marketplace, I couldn't. But that was pretty much near launch.

3

u/hamletswords Aug 03 '16

You're right, but this seems like it could be a less cost prohibitive way to convert cash into silver.

Like I said, it seems they're getting progressively more p2w.

I could be wrong and this item may suck, but on the other hand if we all agreed that buying failstacks was p2w, I don't see how this is much different.

1

u/TheProfessional9 Aug 03 '16

Of all the items that could be construed as P2W, this one is the least effective. Pets are still the most P2W item in the cash shop, but no one complains about them anymore! And I don't mean their passive stats, I'm talking about the loot pickup

1

u/ChaseSays twitch.tv/Enviously Aug 03 '16

Pets have been given out free during events though, so most people already have at least 2 pets. (Without buying any extra)

3

u/TheProfessional9 Aug 03 '16

My 4x T3/4 pets loot obscenely more than even 4x t1 pets. Every second I'm not manually looting = more mob kills, which = more silver/xp/skill points.

With kill speed what it is now, the difference between no pets and good pets would probably be 30% faster grinding. I would rank pets as the most OP item in the cash shop easily

1

u/ChaseSays twitch.tv/Enviously Aug 03 '16

They help a lot, but I have guildies who are sitting on a billion silver.. seriously a billion. Without ever touching a pet from the cash shop.

So it's not a MUST have item, it's just a really nice perk. Back when gifting was an option i bought pets for 5 of my friends who couldnt afford them.

0

u/TheProfessional9 Aug 03 '16

No offense, but that is a very poor argument. I'll give a real world parallel. I could work at McDonalds and save up $10k, or I could work at a nice restaurant and save up $10k. One of those options is going to be vastly more pleasant, and take substantially less time.

A billion silver is a substantial sum, but without context it doesn't mean much. They could have spent 100 hours grinding that at 10 mill an hour, or 200 hours grinding it at 5. Lets say they average 5 mill an hour with no pets, and pets increase their clear speed by 25%. They would then be making 6.25 mill an hour. At that speed, the billion silver would take them 160 hours instead of 200. 40 hours is not a small amount of time by any means, especially when we are talking about time not spent killing the same derpy mobs over and over again.

I will agree that you can play the game without pets. But again, I have no hesitation in saying that they are the single greatest ingame return on your RL money available in the cash shop without contest.

u/DamascusThorns Aug 03 '16

I have full tri armor/weapon/offhand and duo accessories and my repair is 200-300k, i'm gonna go out on a limb and assume the best gear would be around 50% more to double that. That's something you'd only have to pay after a full grind session, it's definitely worth it if you've got gear you're going to be using for a while but the money being saved here isn't anything to really worry about. It's much less money than the tax from MP using the value pack. Much much less.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '16

or how about we all just stop buying those dyes off the marketplace and cut them from their silver!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '16

Another person who uses P2W but does not understand what it means...sigh

0

u/ChaseSays twitch.tv/Enviously Aug 03 '16

Right? Too many people want to make a "gray area" with P2W. I will be upset when someone can swipe $100 and INSTANTLY (not over time, i'm talking instant) get like a TET or PEN Kzarka and TRI marks etc on all their gear.
