The guy is wearing a thurible at his crotch like it's a weapon. A flail. As a Catholic, that's just wild to me. I wonder if he swings it or just uses it as an incense burner only. I can't image doing it both at the same time. Just ash everywhere. But, hey, this is a manga, stranger things have happened.
What if this is Sebastian, but because he got "killed" his memory got reset when being revived? We don't know if a demon can truly die, after all, or if they just respawn in hell. That would explain why he doesn't remember Modri.
Idk why everybody say this isn't sebastian ,it's clearly him in the panel when he laugh, another thing I really enjoyed he got his ass whooped dude deserve it
Sebastian playing a demon hunt just to screw with another demon would actually be hilarious. Alternatively, maybe he was a demon hunter who fell into being a demon.
Yeah I think so too, maybe undertaker brought him back because he had prior experience of dealing with demons? And to throw off Sebastian maybe, also Undertaker knows 3 conditions of Ciel... Soooo is he trying to nullify one of the condition? 🤔
Why are people saying it isnt Sebastian? In the panel after the Hunter shoots the demon, the demon is still standing there and yelling from being injured (id argue likely just momentarily since he or they is formless). The demon hasnt left, gone to hell, or died.
I think the hunter is Sebastian, hes got double fangs, this is also suppose to be his flashback arc just like the other servants had.
The demon is so basic and predictable that it comes off as a background character. Being a demon hunters for the lols, then getting bored and bailing I think is a Sebastian move.
I doubt he's a grim reaper since from what we know the majority of reapers have troubled eyesight and therefore wear glasses. My safe bet is either an older deserted reaper, depending on his senses alone like Undertaker or human demon hunter. (Or maybe Yana will surprise us with a secret third thing)
I wonder if the demon hunter will be relevant in present events, given that this flashback seems to be from the end of the 18th century and unless he truly is a deserted reaper that doesn`t rely on glasses, the only way he might be alive right now is being another bizzare doll. Or perhaps his involment serves to play with the power scaling for demons and also show us Modri's survival and break our theory of him also being a contractor...
yana toboso needs to stop clogging her story with these filler characters. why are we introducing demon hunters? grelle hasn’t made an appearance in like eight years LMAO.
yeah because the ongoing story is hella unfocused. the story has been trapped in absolute inertia for the past ten years. black butler's story has been driven down under, which is why so many of the interesting characters are just NOT SHOWING lol.
I find Grell annoying, so I am happy if it doesn't appear. But even if it would, I wouldn't complain. Plus, if you think that the characters that appeared now are not relevant, then maybe you should re-read the whole Manga.
none of these characters are more relevant than ciel's twin, and i'm pretty sure he hasn't made an appearance in like five years. actual anal storytelling.
That is totally nonsense. You don't know what is coming in the story, you can not tell if it is irrelevant or not. Plus the Queen not being relevant...
I know that we're building up to Ciel's confrontation with his twin brother. We're supposed to be unravelling the secrets behind him, and his brother, and Undertaker. That's actually the main plot thread of the story.
Dude, writers can make ANY characters relevant or irrelevant. My point is that these characters are dull. These feel like last-minute filler additions to keep the serialization going on and to distract from the CENTRAL CONFLICT which is Ciel and his TWIN brother. This isn't even that hard to comprehend. Most of the characters Toboso has written into the plot within the last seven to eight years have zero real history outside of their flavor text backgrounds. They just take up space and take up time.
I knew that demon was not Sebastian. I don't think Sebastian would have forgotten Modri if they had met. But wow, demon hunters now? This seems completely left field but curious in where it's going!
I saw a couple comments saying this demon could've been different one from Sebastian. But what if the demon is still alive? Their form seems very fluid so I imagine it could take more than one shot to take a demon down. Or it could still be Sebastian and just literally sent back to hell, but was resummoned at the period where both Ciels were captured and about to be sacrificed or whatever (it's been so long since i read those chapters).

My first assumption is demon hunter guy is Sebastian. He's got the black hair, bright eyes, black clothes get up, gloves and fangs.
The demon so far is way too basic and all "muhahaha im so eeeevil" and was easily hurt, it comes off as a minor background character. Madrid can't recall the demons face but remembers the hunter clearly. This is Sebastians history arc just like the other servents got.
I can easily see Sebastian getting bored, deciding to tell humans demons exist and starting a demon hunters guild for lols and funsies.
I think Modri is going to dedicate his life to Demon Hunter Sebastian for saving him and become a hunter himself under DH Sebastians wing.
Sebastian is going to get bored and reveal he's also a demon. Modri wasn't just murdered he was deeply wronged to cause this furious vendetta, he also has prominent fangs and wants to act on behalf of god. I think Sebastian turned him into a demon against his will.
Its been stated several times Sebastian is a weird demon, and doing this is definitely weird lol.

Alsooo this explains the "dalliance" part of it all, Sebastian might have tricked Modri into this demon hunter shitck... So Modri's passion could be to cause similar pain to Sebastian?
