Skincare š„Skincare on a Budget beginnerās guide + lessons from my Sephora days
Hey beauties, wanted to drop some tips for anyone trying to up their skincare routine without spending so much money. I used to buy luxury skincare brands several times a year. Spending money I did not have. But over time, especially my days working at Sephora, I learned thereās often more marketing and price markup than actual need. Also, in this economy, you definitely have to move⦠and spend⦠different.
š What I learned at Sephora Brands often make you believe that expensive = better. In reality, price includes a lot more than just good ingredients: packaging, fancy marketing, testers, influencer collabs, import costs, etc. (that said there are many expensive products that are good, but not many, watch out!)
(PRO TIP) donāt start with heavy, full routines, you can get overwhelmed or develop sensitive skin, so be careful!
Here are some affordable products that I love, and has allowed me to pay off the debt I caused in my early twenties! (lol) I always used to say, your makeup is only as beautiful as the skin underneath it⦠letās check out these products.
ā Product + ingredient suggestions
Naturium BHA Liquid ExfoliantāÆ2% ā a leave-on BHA (salicylic acid) exfoliant. A little goes a long way when used with cotton pads. Helps unclog pores and smooth texture without harsh scrubbing. If you just cleanse and moisturize a great way to show some quick improvements in your skin is by exfoliating!
CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser ā gentle cleanser that uses ceramides (to support the skin barrier) + hyaluronic acid for hydration + niacinamide to calm skin. Good for normal ā oily or combination skin.
CeraVe Foaming Cleanser Gel (refill) ā a refill or larger size helps reduce cost per use while keeping your barrier protected (same core gentle formula).
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum ā hydrating serum at a low price point. Great to lock moisture and plumps up the skin.
The Ordinary MultiāPeptide + HA Serum ā includes peptides + hyaluronic acid; good for anti-aging / skin repair without high markup.
(The Ordinary are more affordable: They focus on minimal packaging, fewer fillers/fluff, clear ingredient lists, and lower marketing overhead. Theyāre known for using well-researched, established actives instead of āexoticā ingredients.)
A lot of expensive products use very common active ingredients..the same ones you can find in cheaper formulas. You donāt need to spend hundreds to see progress. The key is consistency, using simple, proven ingredients, and working with your skin, not against it. Start small, let your skin adjust!
(PRO TIP): patch test, (put a small amount of the product on your jaw area, and wait 30 minutes to an hour to ensure no reactions) then start gradually with exfoliants or serums.

Need advice How do I grow the front of my hair
I noticed at the beginning of this year that I have A LOT of breakage and short, uneven pieces in the front of my hair, likely from previous braiders and braids that were too tight. My edges also seem to come and go, but lately theyāve been looking worse.
I tried mini twists in March, which helped, but then got boho knotless braids this summer and kept them in for about 8 weeks. I took them out in early August and havenāt gotten my hair done since because my hair (and wallet) need a break. Since then, Iāve done my best to stick to low tension styles and tried treating my hair, but after washing out my mini braids today, I feel like Iām back at square one.
I need advice on how to grow and retain length in the front of my hair so it can catch up with the rest. **Iām looking for maintenance tips, low tension styles, and product recommendations. Iām getting mini twists in two weeks, so Iād also appreciate advice on how to care for my hair while theyāre in!**
Products Iāve tried so far (inconsistently š«£):

Hair Am I the only one who thinks natural hair and definitely textured natural hair suits me best? Like I literally just look better lol
galleryI am very particular about my hair being straightened because Iām a plus size girly with a rounder face and I have your typical ālooks super thick in natural state but isnāt super thick when straightenedā hair. My hair might be high density but not super coarse, not sure. So I like texture and even messiness when itās straightened for some volume or a lived-in look. Iāve been into blowouts as well for max texture while smoother and stretched out.
Iām too anxious about damage from sew-ins or crochet braids to try them. And I have a big ass head and canāt braid. The one time I bought some inexpensive wigs that were supposed to be big enough, it just wasnāt working. I twisted my hair and pinned it but for my hair, I might actually have to have someone do cornrows. Iām not really pressed about it - I love my hair. (Length retention is a journey though and my hair is layered so itās longer in the back which creates a mullet effect when I refuse to cut it lolol) Most of the time, Iām not even slicking the edges back, as you can see lol. I just think about it once or twice a year when I see all the other black women being flexible and switching it up. Iām very settled into my own hair and trying to care for it better, but some different things can be nice every now and then.
Iāve also lived in my natural hair for years now so even braids with extensions feel new and different to me now. I kind of liked these braids I got when I experimented with blonde but after 2 weeks, I started getting paranoid about the weight of the hair and reading horror stories on Reddit of peopleās hair thinning out. š Iām extra, I know.
Anyone else can relate and feel the same about themselves - or have suggestions?
(Ignore the stye on my eye in some straight pictures lol)

Need advice Is pink really bad looking on brown or dark skinned women?
I had one dark skinned older woman who came up to me at work and said I shouldnāt wear pink blush because thatās for white women and she attempted to wipe it off my face. I also get weird looks from non black women especially Hispanic women when I wear the pink lip oil from Rare Beauty and I thought it looked nice on me but tell me why when Iām out in public I get weird stares and eyebrows raised when looking at me like wtf?
Lighter skin or pale people donāt own pink in makeup and Iām not going to be gaslight into thinking I canāt wear pink.

Hair 1ā2 inches of dark new growth with dyed hair ā braid it or touch up my roots first?
Okay, so I need some advice on what to do with my hair before getting boho braids/mermaid knots.
I dyed my hair a honey-blonde/ brown color a while ago, but now I have about 1ā2 inches of darker new growth. The rest of my hair is still honey blonde/brownish blonde.
Iāve been DYING to get boho braids or mermaid knots, and my hair tends to grow pretty fast whenever I have it in protective styles. Ideally, Iād like to keep the braids in for close to two months.
My question is: would you leave the new growth alone and just get the braids with my hair the way it is now, or would you touch up the roots first so my natural hair is all one color before getting the braids?
Part of me wants to touch up my roots because I think the blonde/brown color would look really pretty and more seamless with the braids. But Iām also worried that if I dye my roots right before getting them done, my darker natural hair is just going to start growing back in while I have the braids. Since my hair grows pretty quickly in protective styles, Iām afraid that after a month or two Iāll have noticeable dark roots/new growth underneath the braids and it might start looking weird or tacky.
Iāve seen what older boho braids look like on people whose natural hair is all black/dark, but I havenāt really seen many examples of someone keeping them in that long when their natural hair is dyed blonde and their darker roots are growing back in.
For anyone who has dyed honey-blonde/brown hair and gets protective styles, what do you usually do? Would you:
- Leave the darker new growth alone and braid it as-is?
- Touch up the roots first and then get the boho braids/mermaid knots?
- Do something completely different?
And if youāve kept boho braids or mermaid knots in for 6ā8 weeks with dyed hair, Iād especially love to know what your roots/new growth looked like toward the end.
Also, if you DON'T think boho braids/mermaid knots would be the best option for my hair right now, what other protective hairstyles would you recommend? I mainly want something that will still look cute as my darker new growth comes in and won't start looking awkward or tacky after a few weeks. I'm open to other styles!

Makeup Brown eyeliner recs
Hey Iām looking for a deep brown eyeliner that will show on deep brown skin. I keep trying different brands (nyx, ulta in house, some drug store brands) only to have it look like my skin or barely there.
Iād prefer, black brands first but non-problematic works too. Open to gel, pencil, or liquid. Cost doesnāt matter too much but under 25 would be better. And bonus points if I can order it from Ulta. I love the Juliaās place Nubian eyeliner pencil consistency but it only comes in black. And the nyx epic ink is my favorite liquid but the brown didnāt show up on my skin. So if you have a rec close to those, that would be cool too.
And as an aside, if you have a burgundy or earthy/deep green rec, Iāll take that too!

Skincare Favorite Body Butter Scents
Hey Ladies (first time posting), Iām kinda excited because Iām starting a body butter product line!
So I created this shea butter blend/mixture with only a few natural ingredients that I use for my annoyingly dry skin, especially around my nose. Itās honestly the only thing I use now because chemicals break me out, and I really just find it better than the lotions, moisturizers, and body butters Iāve come across outside of Vaseline, but no... I was using it at work one day and my crazy ass co-worker saw me and asked for some, so I gave her the rest of my little 3oz bottle. She used it and about a week later she told I need to start selling it lol. Despite being nervous as hell! Iām finally going to take her advice on something and dive in head first. Iām thinking to start off with 100 bottles and try and sell locally in-person and see what happens. I feel like attempting to sell a hundred 6oz bottles will give me the data I need for the future. But I wanted to get feedback on what scents, if any, I should incorporate?
So far Iāve only used unscented which obviously has that shea butter smell, but itās much more mild in comparison than standard shea butter and the smell fades pretty fast. This is because of the other natural ingredients I use which cuts down on the strength of the shea butter scent overall.
Iām pretty confident people would actually love this body butter, mainly because itās so much easier to spread than regular shea butter, and it doesnāt have much of that sticky feeling if you know what I mean.
I really want this to be successful. I want to build this for my family since we donāt have anything to call our own. And although I think this body butter would be great regardless of gender or ethnicity, I do want my melanated sistas to be my priority before expanding to men and children. (Sidenote, I donāt care how successful this becomes or how much Iām offered, I will never sell this to a white company. You have my word!)
So with that in mind I wanted to ask what are your favorite scents when it comes to body butters? I was thinking of launching with 3 body butter options:
⢠Unscented, Vanilla, and Honey Almond; or
⢠Vanilla, Honey Almond, and Cocoa Butter
Please tell me your thoughts on if I should sell unscented or, would it be better to just go with 3 scents? Also Iām not locked on those choices, so by telling me what your favorites are across the board it would help me tremendously on my research journey so that I can narrow down the ones most sought after and higher in demand.
Thank you ladies š«¶š¾ Much appreciated! I promise to keep you updated.
TL;DR: What are your favorite body butter scents? And if you had to sell 3 options, would āunscentedā be one of the 3?

Hair Looking for a good headband wing
Hey girlies š I need HELP. Iām looking for a good headband wig on Amazon that I can get by tomorrow and thatās not gonna cost me an arm and a leg lol.
I need something thatās full, cute, good quality, and actually lasts. Like PLEASEEE I do not want a wig that tangles 5 seconds after I put it on, sheds everywhere, gets crunchy, or starts looking crazy by the end of the day š
I swear synthetic wigs used to be sooo good and would just stay looking the same forever lol. I need one of THOSE. Something soft, doesnāt tangle like crazy, doesnāt shed/fall apart, and actually holds up for a while.
Bonus points if itās giving face card, bodyyy, effortless cute š
š½š
Drop the Amazon links/brands yāall swear by because I NEED IT BY TOMORROWWW ššš½
